Note the way the one solider is holding the STG-44. While most assault rifles nowadays are held by the hand guard on the barrel, that was actually the proper way to grip the STG, as the metal hand guard would get very hot during firing.
People don't understand that without the other parts of the movie, not being able to go outside much, having dark creepy tunnels, constantly in a tunnel like that.. That has a HUGE physcological impact
