  • shredding is a style of play involving sweep picking hammerons and pull offs in rapid succession, Most use alot of DELAY also.....There are great shredders but it is far more difficult to put emotional content into this style and many of your early shredders Learned this....Emotional content sells more records than fast, always has and always will...A Maturing guitar player will get there, those who are Stuck on just 1 style never will. Start at the root (blues) and you will mature faster..

  • @Fluffypopcicle - Oi fluffycocksicle, shush ye' batty. He's a great guitarist, you chat too much shit, I got a headache.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Hendrix star spangled banned, was purposely meant to sound like the Vietnam war, bombs dropping ect. Hendrix in star spangled banner was not creating a piece of music with lovely melodies but trying to recreate a war scene. !!

  • I thought the same, it reminds me of king crimson

  • que chingonsisima rola!!!

  • i swear i have heard that riff at the start before!

  • @fistitans yyz?

  • a lot of king crimson influence in this one.

  • omg, like megaman x *-*

  • @OscarLanuzaUrrutia that was my fav game as a child!

  • Look at him.

Looking all cool with his bald head black clothes and red shoes haha!

  • I swear to fuck, people get so bitchy about guitar players. where is the new frontier? whats left to do but bang on a stringed peice of wood and metal? who gives a fuck?

    (insert thought prevoking music here)

  • The only thing I don't like at all at this song is that it doesn't exactly makes me picture ghosts when I listen to this tune. Makes me think of a runaway of some sort, but not a haunted house runaway or the likes xD But as for the rest, this song rocks hard as fuck!

But the 'picturing' thing was always an awesome point with satch. Even when I read the name 'The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing' I was like 'WTFOMG' and then I pushed play and I was like '...hell yeah!'

  • Joe Satriani is crazy good......I am a big MUSE fan and I was wondering do any of you guys think Matt Bellamy can compare to this guy?

  • @yehudaful1 dude listen to " If I could fly ", " Summer Song ", "Flying in a blue dream", "Surfing with the alien"... then you can come to a good conclusion... peace

  • @yehudaful1 LOL NO.

  • Joe Satriani is the Chuck Norris of music. He's unstoppable and and has more skills than anyone.

  • this totally has an Opeth feel. love it!

  • The legendary... The bigest... I love it!

  • I can totally see....I mean hear this in The Matrix :O

  • @ whatshendrix There is absolutely nothing wrong with disputing another individual(s) opinion... when its backed up with intelligent references and facts, absolutley! My problem lies with individuals that just comment on youtube just for the single purpose of pissing someone off or just to say your a fag etc! To clarify, arguing can be productive, its all in the way its presented! To re-phrase my older post, some individuals should leave their "negative" counter-productive, comments to their self

  • @guitarguy316 BATHROOM VISITS! That's what i've been forgetting! :-P

  • @TheKristen1979 Yes, I agree, and to add, most of these "individuals", that make negative, argumentive comments, about useless topics, have absolutely no real interest in music at all! They just want to argue for the sake of arguing, the downside to free speech!

  • @guitarguy316

I don't agree. I mean - I wouldn't argue about "useless" topics because they are a poor base for an argument, but I completely disrespect people who can't see arguing as a sport - there's something seriously wrong if you think that it's just a way to provoke and annoy people. But that aside - simply getting the idea that free speech has downsides is a sure sign of your emotional immaturity.

  • @guitarguy316 We also are free to ignore peoples opinions dude, free speech is rad to the max and so is this music

  • I like this boy

  • I saw him in Philly last year, and he was very proud of this one. Its kickass. He said he imagined this is what his house would sound like if there were shredder ghosts, like Vai and Johnson, haunting him.

  • Don't listen to this song too much... it can cause "spine chilleria" lol ..... just awesome!!

  • why since hendrix.....dude...satriani was his teacher

  • @StefanMusic1994 You do know that Satch picked up the guitar BECAUSE hendrix died right? just saying. Joe didn't teach Jimi lol

  • can someone tell me how to get his tone??

  • Why do people always slam others? Is it for personal enjoyment? Maybe it is just because you have some sort of mental shortcoming due to the strangulation by your own umbilical cord during birth which cut off your air supply, thus creating a Hypoxia, anoxia or some sort of cerebral edema condition. Maybe, it is some sort of mummy or daddy issues? Maybe you were breastfed at gun point! In any case get some therapy then post something that makes sense or is actually helpful to the world!

  • Amazing song, should've been on the album, not iTunes.

  • Music is like food! Not everyone has the same taste, they like all different foods. However, some people have a fetish for certain foods and just as well with music! Why do people argue about guitarist being better than another? Its all a matter of personal taste and background...were not all robots. Satriani just either sings to your soul or he doesnt. You cant compare anyone to him....not possible!

  • @guitarguy316 2..true....

  • @guitarguy316 Good question. It seems that YT is a place to argue about everything. I had 20+ ppl cuss me because I said i did not like an advertisement. Who cares about an ad? 99% of the idiots that get on here and critique music dont know crap about music in the first place. That is why they are at home sitting behind a computer screen instead of on stage playing for ppl who have paid to hear them.

  • @guitarguy316

But we can always try right?

  • Anyone else sick and tired of hearing about fucking buckethead on damn near every satch video comment section?

  • WTF I don't have this song on my album and I bought the album.

  • @XBLincrement Epic fail.

  • @Megatrane Oh yeah right I tunes BS

  • i love satch hes amazing but just putting this out there go look up another guitarist buckethead he does the same kinda style and gets some of the same sounds as joe go look him up :)

  • @pchurk

    No offence, but.

    Buckethead is horrible

  • @hdhdskihdw i admit he is a complete freak/weirdo but he is a skilled guitar player

  • @hdhdskihdw That's a very arrogant thing to say. If it were true, relative to Buckethead, Satriani would be mediocre at best. I personally prefer Buckethead, not to say Satriani is not an absolutely amazing guitarist; I just prefer Buckethead's music.

If you're going to insult a musician, you could at least give your reasons for disliking them. Music is, after all, a subjective thing.

  • @hdhdskihdw he has the ability, but he doesn't apply it well

  • for some reason this sounds like something off a Megaman X game lmao Satriani is the best!

  • @Doomnek1 lot of songs of this style seem to be very popular in video games....the other day i saw someone who said some other song would be perfect for an f-zero/futuristic-esque game

  • @Doomnek1 or final fantasy boss music : P

  • Ghosts ? Unreal is the guitar's skill of this guy !

  • this song is abit cheesy, i have to admit. Sorry, sach

  • this song is amazing!!!

  • does anyone have a link to the tab for this? i cant find it anywhere

D: ive gota have it down by next week

  • Lets just hope the ghost of Satriani will haunt us forever...lol

  • @crazedcatman1234

might take more than a week to have this down

  • Oh my god. This song is freakin' epic!

  • I can't buy this on itunes, it says i have to buy the full album. Anyone know where i can find this track?

  • oke that Phone sound fucked it up

  • i love his variety of musical genres . he's the one !

  • Joe should spend 2 years between each album, not one.

This tune is old in his reportriare. (sic) If he spent a tiny little bit more time on his songs they would be much better, as this demo sufficiently demonstrates.

All in all, the man is superhuman on the guitar.

  • @klindred i totally agree with you.

  • Boy!!!!!!! you gotta give it to this guy!!!!!

Greetings from Armenia-Quindío Colombia (South America)

  • The part from 1:10 to 1:50 sounds reminiscent of Final Fantasy 7's boss battle theme......and makes me really happy in the soul

  • yeah i agree,he is the king.

  • fuck hehe crazy

  • sounds like opeth

  • i mean this guy made my 2 years old girl nod her head

  • SALUDOS DE LOS SHOTS AREQUIPA - PERU

  • LOVE THIS SONG; SO MUCH

  • his music is orgasmic!!

  • Bow Down to you Joe. Thou art the greatest

  • FUCK IT'S AWESOME!!! Joe, this is excactly what we want!!!!!!!

  • this guy is unstoppable in guitar

he is the greatest since hendrix

  • Gotta Agree with you on that dude, this guy is amazing!

  • @tokyoklife Joe > Hendrix

  • @Dennis19901 no. it isnt the olympics

  • @darthvaderyoda Stating facts

  • @Dennis19901 BULLSHIT Hendrix = GOD

  • @3star2nr Satriani created the gods

    I need say more?

  • @Dennis19901 Created? You Mean to say he isn't a god? If I'm correct that's denying god of his existence. D:

  • @Dennis19901 Yes, say more! Hail to the king!

  • since hendrix? hendrix played the guitar because he dreamt sounding like professor satchafunkulus @tokyoklife

  • @MozkCt sorry but you need to listen to what satch said about hendrix being the cause of him starting playing guitar and you need to listen to hendrix too, however each one of them has his touch on the guitar.

both of them are naturally born guitar masters.

    peace

  • @tokyoklife since hendrix? hes better than hendrix!

  • @55022RSG I totally agree

  • @tokyoklife no hes the greatest period not to knock hendrix but its clear that joe is the true master

  • @tokyoklife i bet satch could play all hendix's songs but hendrix wouldnt have been able to play hardly any of satches songs :P

  • @tokyoklife tell me why hendrix is so great. Please.

  • @brando18guitarplyr well im not trying to start an argument but his playing was only unrivaled by modern artists then as far as i know. but ppl like chet atkins and django reinhardt had better form before he even played guitar...besides it wasnt so much his music that got him famous, it was him being black and still shooting the bird to the gov. thru music that a lot of ppl liked...wether it be becuz of drugs or not is up for debate but i think hes great in his slow stuff.

  • @brando18guitarplyr I agree man... I swear he's so overrated. But Joe Satriani is AWESOME!

  • @brando18guitarplyr Whammy bar use, Simultaneous Rhythm and lead playing, feedback mastery, showmanship, effects use, catchy tune writing, serious attitude and biatches galore. This guy defined electric guitar playing for the rest of the rockers only to be improved on by eddie van halen 6 yrs later. Personally, I don't subscribe to hendrixian playing BUT he did contribute ALOT to what a lead guitar player is today

  • @brando18guitarplyr

hendrix is great for many reasons, but he is overrated for even more reasons. he was sloppy, played out of key, and did a horrible job covering the star-spangled banner.

  • @Fluffypopcicle You dolt. Hendrix meant to play the Star Spangled banner in that manner to express America's condition

  • @nissanelement43

tht was the dive-bomb part. the rest was just horrible. it was out of key and just pure wankery like almost all of jimi's improvs. jimi was an amazing songwriter, but his improvs were awful.

  • @Fluffypopcicle i dont know why people likes to compare guitarists, that is so inmature, only 12 year olds do that

  • @78locomocion

i wasn't comparing anybody. i was criticizing hendrix, that's all.

  • @Fluffypopcicle right because you are the expert of experts, that is like saying BB King or Robert Johnson are not good guitar players because they cant shred or because their music is boring, everybody is good at their own style, and the reason why Hendrix was sloppy, out of tune and out of key is because he played whatever sounds good to him, that was exactly the point of Hendrix, you cant criticize what you dont understand.

  • @78locomocion

i highly doubt any musician thinks playing out of key and sloppy sounds good. i never said he was a bad guitar player ever, he is one of the greatest guitarist in history, i just said he doesn't deserve all the respect he gets. he is the #1 guitarist in just about ever top guitarists list in history, it's ridiculous. "can't shred" and "boring" you can't judge somebody like that. boring is subjective, and shredding isn't everything. sloppy and out of tune playing factually sucks.

  • @Fluffypopcicle i dont really care who is the best guitarist, comparing guitarists is very childish

  • @78locomocion

Since when were we comparing guitarists? I don't see any comparisons.

  • @brando18guitarplyr I don't even know what this conversation is about; and I'm already laughing at the nerve of anybody to mention Hendrix under a Satriani video.

  • @dolofonos That´s what I meant.

  • @brando18guitarplyr Don't worry, I was referring to the other guy!

  • @brando18guitarplyr If you don't know why Hendrix is great, you lose all musical credibility

  • @AAsupreme23 In your opinion, Hendrix was just using drugs on-stage and litting his guitar on fire...

  • @brando18guitarplyr that's so ridiculous I don't even know how to reply. Satriani would slap you across the face for saying something that stupid

  • @AAsupreme23 Look at me caring. -.-

  • @AAsupreme23 But then since you know why jimi hendrix is so great, explain.

  • @brando18guitarplyr I won't waste my time explaining it to someone like you. There are thousands of articles online dedicated to explaining Jimi's greatness to idiots like yourself. I suggest you take 5 minutes to check them out. But you probably won't because you like living in your fantasy world where Joe Satriani is the second coming of Jesus.

  • @AAsupreme23 First of all : I'm not that big of a fan of Joe Satriani, second : Joe Satriani is god so that thing about jesus is irrelevant. and you fail because you can't even tell my why Jimi is that great, so if you don't have anything to say that makes sense, don't say anything at all, and since my comment has been upvoted by 6 people who apperently think the same as I do, tell us why Jimi is that great.

  • @brando18guitarplyr You're not that big of a fan, yet you call him God? Ok. For one thing, Jimi was one of Joe's biggest influences. That's just common knowledge. Jimi did things with the guitar that nobody ever did before, and made songs that featured guitar that blew the minds of everyone in the music world. Have you ever heard his Machine Gun live performance? That song told a story without even having lyrics. I could go on and on but you're way too ignorant to understand

  • @AAsupreme23 Couldn't you spot the sarcasm? Doesn't matter, I rest my case that it's bullshit that without Jimi we wouldn't have music like we know it, that's just pure crap.

  • @brando18guitarplyr Machine Gun does have lyrics. My mistake. That doesn't take away the fact that the guitar is telling a story in itself. I'm not going to waste any more time explaining to you why Jimi Hendrix is a great guitar player. Satriani is a very gifted player with a lot of technical skill. But he has nowhere near the influence, innovation, or creativity of Jimi Hendrix, and that's just a fact

  • @AAsupreme23 Jimi changed the face of music correct. But saying that Satriani is nowhere near the "influence, innovation, or creativity" of Satriani, is insane. Satch is the only guitar play of his kind. What was so creative about Hendrix, that makes him more creative than Satriani. That's opinion not fact idiot. lol

  • @CoreThrasherGLB I'm not wasting anymore of my time in this Satriani circle jerk. Learn a little about music then talk to me.

  • @AAsupreme23 Okay, here's a bit about Hendrix's music. All he ever uses in solos are pentatonic scales. Then Satriani uses EVERY kind of scale. Who's more "innovative" did you say? I mean seriously. And Hendrix's "influence, innovation, or creativity" was influenced by his drug problems that he died from by the way because he was such a =junkie. Satch doesn't need that shit for music. Hendrix that used it as a crutch.

  • @AAsupreme23 Hendrix was undoubtedly innovative for his time, but so was Angus Young, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page etc. sure Hendrix inspired millons of guitarists down the timeline (including me), but Satriani teaches at Berkeley College (biggest musical college in the world) and taught guys like Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, Alex Skolnick, Andy Timmons, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt and probably more, not only is he an inspiration, he is a tutor, original and damn creative.

  • @AAsupreme23 you can't measure creativity, therefore t s not a fact. Hendrix was however ahead of hs tme and a great innovator as well as a great guitar player-

  • @gumbyonacid You couldn´t be more right!

  • @brando18guitarplyr Here it is folks ...the dumbest fucking comment in the history of mankind.................why not ask Satch himself why Hendrix was great!

  • @brando18guitarplyr because he was way ahead of his time and he was an innovator- to call him the best of all time is foolish as there is no best in music-

  • @brando18guitarplyr you just hate him cause his black. LOL nufsaid!!!

  • @epeprigor That must be the most retarded comment ever -.-

  • @tokyoklife

Listen to Tosin Abasi some time dude, I figure you'd like him :D

  • @ArtThroughAmbience

    rosin abasi is AMAZING!!!

  • @tokyoklife

    Ha. Couldn't disagree more.

  • @tokyoklife he's okay. jimi hendrix was okay but was sloppy. solos were amazing chordsnot so awesome.

  • @rgttgi

well, he's not known for increble virtuosity.

he's more of a revolutionizer for guitar. like Van halen, which of whom i'm not a huge fan of tho.

but hendrix, he was the defiant guitarist back then who broke out of the old ways of playing...

  • @tokyoklife satriani kicks hendrix's ass

  • Good to hear Joe still making unique and fun stuff!

  • this Italian bastard !! he never out of tones!

    Cheers V

  • I play guitar to but I counld never get close too this

  • @trixie10121 None of us ever will lol

  • "yea, well maybe I would've read the description if I knew HOW TO MAKE ALL OF IT SHOW UP WITHOUT GOING TO THE CHANNEL!!! idiot"

Look dumbass the dude was trying to help and no you dont have to pull up the dude's channel when you look at the description..

so guess who is the idiot?

this is just an awesome song...

  • how does he do that electronic sound like at the end?

  • He has a special effect pedal for this one. I don't remember it's name, though...

  • I was trying t-wah, but it wasn't sounding right

  • @burnsmybacon It's a Ringtone Modulator pedal. READ THE DESCRIPTION!!!

  • yea, well maybe I would've read the description if I knew HOW TO MAKE ALL OF IT SHOW UP WITHOUT GOING TO THE CHANNEL!!! idiot

  • Check for this track in the live Paris DVD....JUST MINDBLOWING!!!

  • Loomis and Cooley are absolute pants. Nobodys. Stick to your crap music , retard.

  • Hey Jeff Loomis' solo stuff was pretty good. Not on Satch's level but it was still good.

  • Comment removed

  • I haven't heard of either of those two.

    *listens*

How many times to I have to make it known that fast and good are two completely separate concepts?

  • Not really, but still Loomis is bad ass.

  • give me a few days to transcribe the crypt theme and i will show you through music theory just how wrong you actually are.

if you want to accuse this man of what would be considered an actual crime then you better have some solid stuff to back that up

  • Just listened to it, I call what you just said a crock of.

They aren't even a little similar.

  • @ShimodaSensei lol mate you are mental, they dont even sound slightly similar, what instrument do you play? the triangle?

  • I saw him perform this song live :D just before the album came out in Glasgow, was absolutely immence :D

  • i like this song...thank you joe...

  • This song has shades of Opeth in it. I like very much.

  • How can you compare Joe Satriani to emo filth like Opeth, that discusts me.

  • I'm amazed you have the temerity to call Opeth "emo filth". Not all sad or broody songs have to be "emo" you know. If you gave Damnation a listen you'd know they're far more deserving than that. And you'd see the similarities to them and this particular song.

  • @CodePortal learn to spell

  • amazing melody...

  • The cover somehow reminds me of Matrix.

  • yeah i thought that too

  • just awsome...

  • Increíble!!!!!!!!!

    Esto es pura música!!!!

  • Oooh gosh I love Satriani's songs :0 They're not all crazily fast to play and have wonderful melody... I can actually learn to play it : )
