This is still the best ever NZ pop song. I can remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard it on the radio for the first time. Go Th'Dudes and Dave Dobbyn.
we new zealanders have the best taste in music in the whole world.. not only do we get every track off the top 40s from the uk and USA and ozzy we get to hear gems like these ones come out once in a while!!
this song is a part of my life, just like footrot flats cartoons and the wire milk crate i used to put out every sunday, commando comics and those chomp bars that came in four bits...and gold rush bubble gum.....love NZ and miss it too much.
Perhaps NZ's greatest rock band to date - one album wonders a classic album so classic all Kiwi's should be proud for these guys!!! and own this album!!!!!
My school put on a concert, and Jordan Luck was invited, and came. He played this song with the music teachers band. they performed this song amazingly. i recon it was so much better than the way it is here :)
I love split enz and crowded house.Crowded house are well known and heard here in the uk.When i lived in NZ i just loved th'dudes and, this song in particular.I watch(listen) to this at least once a week.Play it over and over.In my opinion it's one of the greatest songs ever written.A real rock'n'roll guitar band.Love Ian Morris's lead rhythm, such a great hook.
RIP Ian. You will be missed and remembered by your contribution to NZ music and the classic rock scean forever ! Rest easy now brother.. you did your job well. Ill see you on gods golden shores.. From a fellow Kiwi rock lover. Peace
I was at westlake boys high school in 79 and these guys came and sang this and a couple of other songs to us in the hall. Golden harvest were with them and played I need your love and a couple of others. The golden harvest guitarist played some shit with his teeth and we all just thought it was the greatest . I moved to Aus not long after but my heart still remembers, Fucken Ace man!
This is an undiscovered classic for the rest of the world.I loved th' dudes and dd smash when i lived in n.z.I must of added this track about 50 times or more on facebook.
WOWEE- even in his early days, Dave had the goods for sure- talent just waiting to burst the seams! Davo's a long way from the streets of Glen Innes where he grew up (incidentally me too)- he was a familiar sight there a few years ago. A true home grown hero
came to westlake Highschool in NZ in 79 I was in 3rd form. Moved to Australia in August 79 just after that, they were fuckin good, Fucken love all you kiwi's!
Much music is being churned out but so much of it is a poor imitation of what has been done better in the past. The same goes for movies. True originality is hard to come by these days, that's for sure.
All the love is gone in the music today. I know what you are saying. I want to live back in these times man. Everyone had more passion back then. And jezz, like they say, you could leave the keys in the car.
and its all because the music industry is a bunch of right wing money wanting pigs, they reject talent for looks and thats why you dont see great bands on TV
