Congratz! But fix your posture alittle, make the flute parrallel to the ground. It looks better and your audience will like you more, trust me, i play flute and piccolo.
Hey Nina. I've been watching your videos and I love your flute playing. I watch your videos all the time and have learned a lot from them! I was watching this particular video and you mentioned that you are from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was wondering if you would happen to be a Sigma Alpha Iota sister, because that is where the fraternity was founded. I'm a member of SAI and just thought it would be really cool, even if you aren't a member, if you've had any contact with the fraternity :]
Thanks NIna, You have inspired me in ways you might not imagine. I am playing my guitar more and when it comes to my grandchildren, I encourage the exposure to "making music" to them and their parents. I fully support keeping music and instruments in our schools. I have always appreciated flutes, though guitar is my choice (pitiful at it!), but my daughter learned in school to play flute and I encourage her to pick it back up... sorry for all the words, but I want to encourage you too! Kp it up!
violinstx100: sorry, my recording volume level got a little messed up on this one, I boosted it as much as I could on my end...but on my computers when I play this video back if I just turn my computer volume up I can hear it fine.
Congratulations Nina!! :D I've been honored with being able to perform in Carnegie Hall with my orchestra and it is just a breathtaking experience. You'll love it so much! I wish you the best! :)
Oh, wow. You've been all over the continent, huh? :) We're all extremely appreciative to have you on YouTube and can't wait to get more updates from you!
YOU are very inspiring. I have played flute for like three years now. :/ You are awesome. Everyone tells me i have wonderful tone on my flute, bbut i still need to learn my scales. I am last chair, but at a competitong, I got an even better score than the first three chairs, and I was told i play the best, but i really don't know.
my band director put a poster of you on the wall in the band room today! i've watched your videos for a very long time, thank you for everything you do :O)
It really irritates me when people say "flutist", even though I know it's just as correct a term as "flautist". Like when I meet someone new and get onto the subject of music, and my flute-playing, they always go "Oh, you're a flutist?"
If you look back at my original comment, you'll see that I mention that I DO play the flute. And I don't use the term to sound more important, it's just the one I like the sound of more, despite the fact that I know "it's just as correct a term" as "flutist", which I said previously. Read it properly before replying.
Why don't you read what I said? I didn't say that much, so it should have been easy to understand. And I know you said you like the sound of the term, hence "leave it to flutists to try to make themselves sound more important."
Good job! You're an ass. Relax. I was only teasing, anyway.
your super lucky to have done all those things when you were young...i want to major in flute performance and be an orchestra performer...but everything is so exspensive im probably going to do something else when i graduate high school :C
Congratulations on being selected! I'm not a flute player (yet), but I've been playing the clarinet for 7 1/2 years. In the fall I'll begin studying music education at UNH. I've enjoyed watching your videos and will surely watch them much more when I eventually learn the flute, so thank you for all you've posted! :-)

sham277 2 years ago
In marching bands it's parallel because it looks proper but for orchestras it's usually parallel.

As a flute player and Instructer, i must agree that better posture is just...better. It will increase airflow.

are you kidding me? try again on that one.

Well, she's standing up, and her posture's fine.
And her flute position is fine, her audience won't care whether or not her flute is parallel to the damn ground.
thatdude2212 2 years ago 6
actually no, keeping the flute parallel to the ground is bad. It strains the air flow.

Flutist is actually the older term... flautist came later.
Leave it to the flutist to try to make themselves sound more important. :-p
I'm only teasing, dear. Sort of.

I don't think that piece sits well on flute; New York New York...and it's corny too.
Rexicano 2 years ago
Do you hate flautists? or the bad flautists?
Because if you do, you'd hate my playing flute.
Rsmith19756 2 years ago
I like good flutists.
Why not become one, Rsmith19756?
While you're at it; why not come up with a name that doesn't sound like it came right out of the novel 1984.
The word flautists is so old fashioned...come on get with it.
Rexicano 2 years ago
ha ur funny! Look man, or whoever you are. Don't want no trouble, just wanted to know. You know a lot about music so why not ask?
Trust me, becoming a good flautist ain't so easy. as it looks.
I'd rather not spam on Dr. Perlove's Video, so you can either message me, or if you have a myspace, I'll try to find you.
