  • wouldn't it be easyer to just put in a few jetties to catch the sand ,.....????

  • All that messing about with sand can have vanished in one stormy night. I see they have submerged the groynes so they have even less control over what the sea can do. All at rate payers expense I suppose. Whenever man tries to change the bottom of Poole Harbour or the sea there is an unexpected repercussion elsewhere.

  • i don't remember this?? Did this go on for a ling time :S

  • why did tghey replenish the beach? was it terrible or has it always been good

  • The wave action of the sea gradually strips the sand from the beaches hence the periodic replenishments and groynes. Left entirely to nature, there would be no sand on the beach. The council spends this money to keep the sand there to keep the tourists coming.

  • Is the beach stable now or could this again happen in the future. Been to bournemouth 2 weeks ago.. Loved it... Hit the right time weather was good...

  • home sweet home

  • Awesome choice of music! It was an accident that I ended up in Bournemouth 1.5 years ago. That one year the most fantastic year of my life and I cannot think anywhere else where I could be as happy as that. I had to move to London for a job not long ago and there is nothing else I wish more than to be able to move back there again. Dorset is the happiest place in England....

  • lol i was there

  • I don't remember this?

  • is that one of the fun hobbies in bournemouth at 1:08? can i have a go?

  • is the sand, stay after storm,wy interesting in noordwijk, holland,wy hat the same operatien,by ons stay it, after a bath summer, can anyan tell my, thank very much, beachborrel

  • i was ther it did look liek shit

  • love the fact that its ruined any surf at southbourne for the past 2 years or so:)

  • as soon as it happened it took like 5 minutes to walk from the bistro on the beach to the sea how annoying

  • bournemouth, i have lived here all my life and most probably will the rest i love it so much here thanks for this video!! much respect to everyoone that lives here!!

  • Immediately following the work, there was outrage from locals and visitors alike, that in the previously sandy areas of Southbourne beach, it had become almost impossible to walk barefoot. There were large swathes of razor-sharp sharp flints and oyster shells, and there was much adverse comment in the local and national press, despite frantic efforts to hush it up and not 'spoil the season'.

  • This reinforcement and replenishment will also help for the new artificial reef being built there, Europe's first artificial reef to create waves for surfing etc. Can't wait. I love Bournemouth and try to visit every year, hopefully the newer sand will be as nice as it always has been...looks more brown to me, maybe it's just wet, can't really tell.

  • No worries, the sand's as soft and as golden as it always was airborne, shame we couldn't make better use of it this "summer"!

  • Thanks for replying, I went down to Bournemouth this summer for three days, we went to see the sand and you're right, it's still as nice as it has always been :) You're also right about the "summer" weather being poor, fortunately I went during a really sunny 3 day period, including the hottest day of the year which was nice! I managed to get some bodyboarding done too, because the waves to the left of the pier were the best I've seen at Bournemouth.

  • I <3 Bournemouth most of my family live there and are from there i go like every 4 weeks since the whole of ma life.. Its amazing! x

  • thats my bournemouth :D

  • sweet! now we have even more beach to throw massive parties, bbq's and of course sunrise beach orgies on. Massive respect to the Bournemouth Beach Commission!

    keep it rocking

  • I remeber growing up here and the council doing the same works in the late seventies. It was a great playground and was lucky to survive, well its all about being young.

  • Fabulous!

  • Nice beach that from Bournemouth I remember being ther with my first girlfriend when I was a teenager .I hope they´ll do a good work there and live as it was

  • Very nicely done! Here's to the next one!
