Almost got it. but remember, its a 5 note scale w/o the octave. Just take the 4-draw bend out of the blues scale (in the bottom octave) and you got it.
hey j, got a quick question for ya. when you move from one hole to the next on these scale variations, do you use the tongue to articulate every note, or just certain ones, or not at all? thanks
I used to be very keen on (YM style of) scale practise while I played the guitar (and that's why I also developed repetitive strain injury). Harmonica was one of the instruments I found out after not being able to play guitar anymore. Something has been missing from my practise until now - I immediately found the same trance-like place I used to love. I really feel this will add a lot to my personal style. Thank's Jason, I really like you're style + these lessons!
Man you are a bad cat on that harmonica, I need to learn that speed that you have, how long have been playing do you know theory,I want to learn that speed on the chromatic harmonica.
Jason, killer stuff man. I'm an old student of Adam G's but I'm a slow learner. I've always wanted to know 2 things (well not just 2) 1 How do you know you're getting that energy through the diaphram - how do you play with power? And, 2, can you explain how to do the Warbles with the tongue? I will conquer this instrument someday!! But I'll have many more questions first. Does your band ever play in NC?
Thankyou Mr Ricci! Your wisdom teachings on the lick'n stick is leading to the liberation and enlightenment of all harmonica tragics locked in the evil cycle of samsara perpetuated by our ignorance. Your compassion knows no bounds!
The Duff....I often feel trapped in the evil cycle of samsara well in fact I am...I hope some how this harmonica biz we lead me to my own liberation or at least closer to it since I'm not doing much else with my life to move torwards that goal...Funny...maybe your comment was a joke but it hit home...THANYOU.
this is awsome, I came in contact with your music when I started playing harmonica, and now you are actually teaching your ways on youtube, its fantastic.
What a great oppotunity for beginner/intermediate players, so many people have asked if i do lessons (my response is to listen as it's difficult to teach) Now i can tell em to watch your clips, well done friend!
cool lesson... an applicable tip for other harpers. this pattern is very similar to the main lick of peter frampton's "do you feel like we do", might be worth learning for some of you

Great vid jason!! thanks a lot, really.
I left here the pentatonic scale for those who haven't got it(the notes between brakets are draw):
(2) (3) (3)bb (4) 5 6
6 (6) (7) (8) 8 9
Thanks again from Argentina jason :)
Zinlok 4 years ago 2
Thank you very much for the contribution!!!! AWSOME!
J
jasonricci 4 years ago
@Zinlok isn't that more of a major pentatonic? (and should't the 3 draw bend come before the 3?)
the minor pentatonic would be (2) (3)bb (3) 4 (4) (5) 6.
(for the next octave you need an overblow)
Thanks
