i think in my opinion the malmoe symphony orchestra performence of the last ninja theme at the 2006 play concert is better then the cd album version of the commedore 64 medley performence with the czech philharmonic chamber orchestra mainly because this performence has that catchy trombone solo 1:10 that the czech philharmonic chamber orchestra performence of the last ninja theme of the play cd album sadly didnt had and also the melody at 1:02 was much better peformed
Ben Daglish is a legend. He could write movies/games/pop.... and anything else that evokes the emotion of the moment! Come back Ben Daglish! You are missed in todays games. Pioneer.
yeah i have great memories of that game! and yes.. frustrating! remember jumping on those logs (or stones?) across the river! and i didn't know how to get past the dragon on level 1 for ages lol!
I hear ya on that one! but I just found this video on YouTube called.... C64 Longplay - Last Ninja (Part 1/2) and he makes the stepping stones look like a walk in the park, haha! its from the park level. I used to like the funny squat position to pick up an object lol!
Ah,just as it was getting to the best part of the theme itself,it cuts out!!!
Is there an mp3 of this available? Its amazing- imagine how insane it would sound if there was somebody adding electric guitar to it onstage with the orchestra itself!!
HAHA! If you look away from the video (only hearing the audio), the orchestra makes it sound like something out of a 70's Bruce Lee / Jackie Chan Kung-Fu movie. :D
omg... amazing, sounds just like the loading tune from the C64. The best tune on the game was the loading sequence for level 3. This sounds incredible, I love it!
Not so sure about the 'fucky-fucky ten dollah!' trumpets though. Why can't they make a Last Ninja game for the Next-Gens? Just do the whole Manhunt kills thing (as an upadate) and keept the aesthetic Zen intact? Keep the music but modernize the instruments and make it longer? It would rake in the cash...
The Last Ninja (pt 1) had the best music out of all of them. Commando was another huge fav or mine too. Man, this symphony covering this song is awesome. Gave me the chills!!
sure sid chip is the grandpa of directx improvements, also stealed by bill....first directx solution ever made by commodore for 64/128/128c and amiga of course
The secret behind the great music of the C64 was the SID chip which was years ahead of others when released in the around 81.Great composers such as Rob Hubbard and Martin Galway to name a few is the reason people remember game-music.This was long before 8-bit Nintendo and Sega.
Yeah its just a shame that Nintendo and Sega seem to be the staple diet of most gamers memories, but very little have any clue of how much better the Commodore 64 & Commodore Amiga were. Another great tune on the C64 was from the game Driller, but then there were so many werent there!. Nothing could ever beat the SID & Paula chip back then :)
No, it is a symphony orchestra in Sweden playing a collage of c64 tunes, recorded live 2006. They also played Commando, Delta, Way Of The Exploding Fist and some others aswell.
then the czech philharmonic performence

That was brilliant. Out of sheer curiosity: did Ben and Anthony want royalties for it?
thebigwalbowski 4 years ago
no ben got 2k and anthony lees got about 20 quid per loader tune (i only have read this) , mark cale system 3 owner was a tuff cookie
none of the c64 guys retained the rights to the tunes.. if only they knew..

OK then.
