Todays government is too busy trying to dumb down the public... not educate them. Thank goodness for websites like Youtube, Todays Alexandria Library.
@pondsj01 When do you think our government (really just an out growth of the pinnacle of 21st century society, who live their lives only to obtain unlimited money and power. Become controlled by world bankers, who are controlled by ancient pagan devil worshipers who's religion is pure bullshit mumbo jumbo)
@pondsj01 give the order to shut down not just YouTube but the entire Internet? Then ban all knowledge pertaining to conspiracy theories, especially those about the New World Order and the belief in Secret Societies. Soon people are being murdered for their beliefs? Or do we join together and fight back in order to live our lives in a free world?
The commentator uses the word ''Persians'' and ''Arabs'' interchangeably while saying who brought about the final destruction of the library. First and foremost, they are not the same and so a distinction should be made while referring to them.Furthermore, ancient Persia was a seat of great culture and learning. This loose characterization unfairly casts aspersions on their intellect and way of life as it was back then.
I find it interesting that they skirted over Hypatia and her death at the hands of a Christian mob. She was the only female librarian of Alexandria and an accomplished (and beautiful) mathematician and philosopher. She was murdered in the 4th century by Christians and the library burned or partially burned.
It's a tragedy that western culture has in some ways to this day yet to recover from the ignorance-fear-and-guilt-imposing religions that set us back a thousand years.
I fail to understand why people still follow the mythological religions of Isreal, these religions seem to cause their followers to commit great acts of destruction, and evil without regret or acknoledgement of wrong doing. Then they ssay that it's all part of gods plan all because they miss interpret the teachings, and meanings of the bible and qu'arn. The people of the world need to open their minds to freedom of thought, and belief.
Knowing how Islam encourages education it doesn´t make sens why Muslims should have burned the books and I doubt that it is true. Here are some examples:
"Whosoever follows a path to seek knowledge therein, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise"-Muhammad
"The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of the martyr"-Muhammad "and say: `My Lord! Increase me in knowledge" [Quran, 20:114]
And more...But I see that the religion is not to be blamed.
@gzimih indeed the catholic churche would be guilty for me they destroyed many many pagan sites in greece. in fact if we have only ruines in greece it's because of christianity. i'm a christian btw
@gzimih I think it has alot to do with the fact that most people of the time probably didn't know how to read. So inturn they looked to the religious leaders for what was right, then the leaders used them as puppets
I find it highly unlikely that the Arabs/Muslims destroyed the Alexandrian Library.
The Arabian culture cherished knowledge, science and philosophy. They created the first Universities and it seems contradictory that the Arabs who preserved the knowledge of the Greeks and Romans would have destroyed such a treasure as the library and its vast knowledge.
@ccheng21 Its possible to have happened (for a different reason) had the Arabs felt the need to undermine the pre-existing culture during the invasion by eliminating its cultural heart, or alternatively: a sense of "scorched Earth" policy created by the Byzantines of destroying the library to prevent the Arabs from seizing it.
It's all speculation though, some Medieval Muslim accounts claim the library was no longer there when the Muslim armies arrived, the centuries prior were very tough.
It was the Romans,(who started the fire) then the Christians, who started to abolish views and destroy property and knowledge, and then the Muslims put the final smack to the Great Library of Alexandria.
i read the thread :S so sad to see the same cycle of ignorance and stupidity move on, religion poisoned ur brains and turned u against one another :S read the thread and criticize urselves and witness the disgrace u have become to the human u will never be with such savage manners... u want a God? create ur own perfect idol if u need to... and get on with it, maybe ull then learn to love one another...
he left the ending open, u r the ones biased, he did mention that it couldve been Christians who burnt, or Ceaser, or Muslims... anyhow it just proves that ignorance only is the curse which religion casts...
yet another great historical crime against humanity perpetrated by Muslims. Does anyone need more proof, after all the savagery they have perpetrated over the centuries, that they are "hostes humani generii?" (Enemies of the human race?)
@hagnuj yes we could have actually have the formula to create cold fusion then we wouldn't have to worry about the environmental degradation of the planet!
this burning the dark ages from barbarians and religion now we still have ignorance religion stagnation of advancement socialist tendencies even after the economists whom created the system stated it didn't function after watching it fail to allocate factors of production properly the world make me bitter sometimes i feel like it should all burn but then i realize that there are so many whom find the world equally unjust and that i can only come to these conclusions because of what othersmade
For anyone interested in Alexandria, the destruction of the Serapeum and the rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire- see the movie "Agora" about the female atheist and philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria, it's a great movie!
very sad the effect that monotheism has on humanity's history. After all it was the islamic and the Christians that destroyed history's greatest reservoir of knowledge.
@jvargas714 It's extremelly sad. If only the "pagans" had kept copies of works the library contained somewher hidden, like the catacombs, then all the knowledge of the ancient world wouldn't really have been lost forever. It's a shame that isn't the case.
I read a book regarding the history of The Alexandria Library. It expressed that the Romans were unintelligent in many aspects of Mathematics and actually prided themselves on their ignorance...go figure.
@Zachdudeio2 The Romans weren't always like that, as America wasen't always as it is percieved now. If you compare the two you find frighteningly simillar developments. The morality eroded, the sexual and criminal depravation increased along with military exploits, along the same time as the triumvirate destroyed the Roman republic. The first emperor Augustus was one of the few that upheld that which made Rome such a splendor of greatness. But the rulers thereafter effectively destroyed it.
Respond to this video... The romans right before the fall also wanted nothing much more than bread and the games. similar to the american lifestyle today.
And I live in Mars. See how easy that is? I can lie too. On the off chance then you do live in America, how sad is it that you dis the place you live at.
@SuperPerfection7 I'm from Sweden and while i do not dis the place at all, one does harbour a prevailing sense of dissapointment alot of the times when one notices the bullshit that strikes divisions amongst the people. And just general dumb behaviour and sensless pursuits in politics that people actually back up by voting on those who uphold the ideals. Im sure its the same for other nationalities. It's a bigger damage to praise blindly without critical assessment and debates on deficencies.
Surely you are not judging an entire country based on a small amount of retards? People like zack are in administration bitch this bitch that, and do NOTHING to solve anything. Instead cause more problems.
@SuperPerfection7 what? in administration? Dude please stop being so damn judgemental. Since you won't, I'm done. and im sure you do tons to help out too.
@SuperPerfection7 It's full of people who watch too much TV and don't know what nationalism is. I don't think America is bad, The government and the sheep within it are. I don't know why you're so defensive of these people.
@SuperPerfection7 Although it should be stated that it isn't helpful or constructive to be condescending, and degrading to the population as a whole. So i understand that you react to what he initially said.
