  • good tips dude.

  • Thank you for creating this video on proper posture etc. I've recently purchased a Cordoba C7 nylon stringed acoustic guitar and experienced the beginner problems you referenced (e.g., poor posture, leaning on guitar, muted strings from fingers not being tightly curled etc.). I have formal lessons each weekend (30 min) & practice at home for 1.5 hours a night 4 additional nights a week. I purchased an "A Frame Adjustable Guitar Support" to help, but still battled with posture until now. :-)

  • do u have a electric guitar lessons???

  • I can´t believe it !!!! I´ve been leaning on the guitar a long time, and it´s really bad posture man !!! TKS !!!

  • Yay! i have a Nylon Jim Dunlop Pick =)

  • Sweet EAN10 ;)

  • On the thumb nail you look like charlie from Its always sunny

  • I love to play the guitar and have been a lousy student for the past 15 years, learning mostly by myself. I've recently joined a rock band and have been playing the occasional gig at local bars. Every time I get on stage I hear people yelling at me calling me either a faggot or a cunt. I usually try to ignore the comments but recently I approached a person who were yelling this at me and she said I looked like a faggot because of my posture and the way I hold the guitar. I hope this video helps!

  • I just got a guitar for Christmas and i found this video very helpful :) I only have on question: On the wall to the right there are 3 framed plaques... The middle one has a picture on it. its hard to tell but I think its Reba McEntire, is it? I am a HUGE fan of hers and that picture looks like her "room to breathe" album cover. Anyways, just curious... and GREAT video! :D

  • i suck at the guitar :(

  • Great instructional video.

  • thanks

    helpful vid. ^^

  • LOL. I've got boobs, so I guess this kind of helped me out.

  • your vids are exactly what im looking for. thank you so much.

  • i just bought a guitar and used this as my first lesson can you please number your videos as which lesson is next and so on....ty

  • my guitar i screwed and the hole im the middle a lil for from that it got wet and it crackedseriously uts screwed wers the best place to buy a chheap guitar

  • how long does it take u to learn the guitar FULL ON. So enough so u could do a song??

  • @xXNataylaXx "do" a song ? that takes alot. but to sing a song,by knowing the notes would take you about 7-8 months to do it perfectly.

  • thanks, it helped me a lot ;D

  • yourguitarsage or anybody else, please answer my question. Barely got my guitar, forgot to buy my pick.. Maybe, I'll go get one tomorrow, but do you need a pick to play just as shown on the video? With that nice, clear, and high tunes. Or I can still tune it just like that with my fingers. Just asking.

  • @wackoboy48 You should be able to play the basic stuff (not too concerned about harsh/lighter tones) if you just use your right thumb (if you're right handed) in place of the pick. I would suggest getting a pick at a local music store anyhow- you won't pay more than 50 cents for a basic one.

  • @TheNuclearCowboy Thanks!

  • i cross my right leg so my guitar doesn't run away is that cool i find in comfortable

  • i am left handed but i play right guitar i heard its not a problem how you start is it true ??

  • @kakachi100 i'm right handed but i play left handed.. ifeel the same way you do but unfortunately, it's MUCH HARDER to find factory built left handed guitars. plus, they cost more. its easy to turn a acoustic"upside down" but electric guitars are much harder. ALL the components on a electric guitar have to be reversed and adjusted. i want to learn so i can teach my son(he's 15)

  • @elwin38 thanks for your comment i understand what you say XD

  • looks like the guy form rise against

  • this vid help me alot thks

  • i'm gettin my guitar 2morrow & i just thought to browse for some vids. i found urs, not the first one, but the first interesting one. Thanks, man :). i know nothing about guitars but want to learn so from which video do i start with plz reply asap

  • Thanks so much for these videos + tutorials! You are awesome! I just bought an acoustic guitar and Im so excited about learning. Too bad you dont give lessons in NY!

  • wow. thank you. i'm gettin my guitar 2morrow & i just thought to browse for some vids. i found urs, not the first one, but the first interesting one. Thanks, man :). you really incouraged me. you probably don't know, but by making videos to total strangers, You have just made a great difference, and i feel it right now, right inside me.

  • Some nice basic stuff for beginners :)

The left hand stuff from around 8mins on your video can be helped by using a Space Trainer teaching aid from Guitar Gizmo.

BTW, I agree about Dunlop Tortex pics - the best!

  • thanks...this video really help me a lot...i just got my guitar yesterday and i was like what should i do with it...luckily i found this video which is very useful for me...^^

  • oooh...thank you i got some techniques...

  • Jim Dunlop are the best.. def

  • major mute ation :)

    i liked that ..

  • i just got my guitar like 4 days ago and I TOTALLY dunt know anything xD ..

u have to post a lesson about swtiching chords .

bcuz if i want to swtich from a chord to another ,, it take me likee ,, YEARS -.-

  • thats what i thought but all i did was repeat over and over and find a comftorble way for me to move my fingers to a different chord..so i just repeated until i got it right.

  • Dont feel bad, every great guitarist started where you are, and with alot of repition and knowing the chords really, really well you will pick it up soon!

  • @MetallicA1399 It's like it's been said before. It's all practice. Take the time to sit and figure out where your fingers need to go between chords. It's going to take time, just keep practicing and it'll get easier and easier. Did I mention it would take time?

  • @MetallicA1399 dudde i had a big prob with that .thought it would never work haha.well its been almost a year and ive caught up to the 3rd year guitarist around me hahaah.it just takes alot!!! of practice=)

  • Hey yourguitarsage! I just bought my second guitar ...

First i got an electric from my dad in birthday present... And i recently bought my new DR100 vintage sunburst acoustic guitar...

I look forward to learn alot from you!

    Your vids are great!

    You rock!

You don't talk fast, wich is great...

I would really appreciate if you made a lesson with all the major chords and the chords you wanna know when you start playing the guitar ... If you have, give me the link to the vid and rock on !

  • Hi guys, i need to get an acoustic guitar, someone recommended Yamaha f310, ive watched some tutorials of it here on Youtube, but am not quit shure about the idea of really buying it, so please any advice or tip would really mean alot, thanks.

  • I just want to say that I've tried many picks light, heavy. and i found the one before I saw this video and pick is the best pick ever its a Jim Dunlop.73mm gray pick the exact same pick you have I'm sure not to light not to heavy and I can be all drunk and just wailing on my guitar and the pick will not break my strings. great pick

  • good lesson, can you put that ad somewhere else

because it is where we suppose to be looking and paying attention to. thanks

  • Thank you for this video. I'm 41, just bought my first guitar (Seagull S6 Original) and I was wondering about posture and technique. I've subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more lessons. Thanks again!

  • My fingers are too short!!

If i use all of my fingers, my second finger would go out of place, and then the sound doesn't come out nicely.

I'm a super beginner and need lots and lots of help. I really don't know what to do.

  • me 2!!!!

  • samee

  • @Sn0wKiSs

    same!!

i bought a guitar, but i have no idea how to play it Dx

  • SAME!!!! I dont know how to play mine XD

  • I'm good at guitar hero

  • the two are nothing alike

  • So what? I am too, alot of people are...any boob can press buttons. That's why i'm watching this video so I can learn how to play REAL guitar. The game's fun and all but simply not as fullfilling. What would you rather do, play The Beast and the Harlot on Guitar Hero? Or have the ability to play it on a real guitar?

  • lol

  • i want a guitar !!! really want to learn to play !!! (= i think i can do it

  • i'm using a friend's guitar but my ring finger and pinky finger don'tlike to seperate so should i get a smaller guitar? or does it matter?

  • ya im ten too

  • what if your ten(cuz i am ) and your fingers cant really reach the notes?

  • guitar with smaller space between frets

  • Very good lesson tho , keep the good work ^^

  • Yeah me too :S

  • I WANT A GUITAR SO BAD :D

  • Me too, i got a Spanish acoustic but im getting a electric strat. My acoustic is a rubbish bargain XD.

  • Thanks! That video was helpful. I used to think I was cool and I used to hold it sideways. And now thanks to you, I can play Smoke on the Water (Deep Purple), Song of Storms (Zelda), and Raining Blood (Slayer). Your video rocks. If anyone comments something that's mean and rude, just ignore them. Your video is better than a rich, red, ripe strawberry shortcake with lots of whip cream on it!!!!! Keep up the good work! PS. Sorry I wrote a whole bunch of stuff...

  • man i cant see shit with those words there but thxs it helped

  • very nice, very helpful. it's hard to find ppl who can teach the basic fundamentals well.

  • nice! Thx man! : )

  • Dude, your vids rock.... I just got a guitar two days ago and you videos helped big time. Keep up the good work, man.

  • What comes with the ebook amd do you have lessons om finger picking patterns and scales?

  • by the way its not that is low class ,is that when you hold the guitar that way "low class way" you cant reach the higher frets of the guitar properly, wich ends up in sloppy playing unless your`re not planning to go higher than the 12 fret.

  • can you go through afew guitars for beginers like me,and tell us what we should pick as a starter.

    thanks

  • help with posture when standing.. i get cramps, really hurts after a few songs with barre chords

  • LOL usually standing you are supposed to use a strap.

  • where can you buy non electric guitars? (cheap!) lol

  • you should go to you're local store and ask if they got a decent beginner guitar. Pref nylon if ur thingers arent used to playing, good to learn and they are quite cheap compared. If you ask they will most likely give you a discount or/either/both/ give extra stuff such as picks, guitar tuner, and sometimes a bag aswell! Happy hunting :)

  • acoustic ? i think i misspelt XD

  • Try a local guitar shop. Guitar Centers or Sam Ash are usually overpriced, but you'll be able to get some of the most "top of the line" models. But if it's for a first-timer, I would suggest a local guitar shop. :)

  • heyy

i am a begginer and i am gonna be teaching myselfor other videos on youtube and i jus got my guitar today!

i bought a jim dunlop pick and it is 1mm is that a good size if not what size would i need?

    thank you

  • Major "Mute" tation......Bahahaha.. I love It dude.. You're an awesome coach...

    Thanks.

  • how do you tune the guitar without having a tuner? cause the 4th and 5th strings are waay outta tune

  • I have a video for it under my theory playlist.

  • Ehh.. Footthing* =D ..

  • Kickass man, that foodthing =D ..

  • My Grandma told me to hold the Guitar the classical way, and I know just one good Guitarist besides me, who playes 4-5 Years more then I do, and it not looks as cool, as on the not left leg, but .. Its easier to aquire.. Though sometime you have enough skill, to play the guitar in any position easily =) ...

You should have add the part, where the players, push the Neck down ..

  • when i play power chords or anything on the 6,5,4 strings my wrist bends quite a bit is this normal?

  • the pick keeps turning in my hand when i strum..what should i do?

  • GLUE IT!! Just kidding. Get a thinner pick to start.

Then it won't tug out of your hand.

  • haha ok ill try a thin pick

  • great teach!

  • I'm not a total newb, but I can see that I have some habits to break. The rest was just good for refresher and knowing that I'm doing it right.

  • good man...if 'i'd seen this before...when i first started playin i wouldn't had so many troubles developing my technique..haha anyway it's useful.

  • Hmm I'll have to change the way I hold my pick, I do hold it that last way you showed and you made a good point about it being stiff and loud.

  • Thank you man.

I'm sorry to ask another question, but I just started out and my fingers become really crooked when practicing is that normal? will it be solved once my hand developes and gets used to playing?

  • Crooked? Hmmm. They will hurt and yes you do have to contort them a bit, which feels unnatural. But, the more you practice the more it will feel natural and you won't have to contort your fingers. Just keep at it. It's all about the practice and not getting too frustrated with yourself :)

    e

  • is this good for electric too?

  • Yes sir!

  • Good tutorial. I've been teaching myself guitar but couldn't work out why my left hand was cramping up. It was because my posture was causing the neck to push away from he as outlined in his video, so this has put me straight nicely. Cheers!

Only prob is you can't see in the video that he's put the guitar between his knees in the classical posture.

  • Thanks for the tutorials! I've learned much from watching, and I'm looking forward to seeing more tutorials.

  • i got an epiphone les paul for christmas and i know how to play a few easy songs but im glad i came across this video, it helped

  • Great intro. Good info.

  • Hey Sage..

Thanks for providing these videos, I like your advice in number 2.. You also spoke really clearly and had good focus. You just seemed to lose a bit of focus in this video towards the end.

I'm kinda stuck between beginner and intermediate levels, without really knowing what I should be practising. Are you planning to continue with these lessons, and turn it into an E-course, increasing in difficulty/progression up to advanced?

  • Ventea, thanks for the advice. Check out the 2nd playlist on my channel. There might be some things in there that you could use. Also, I WILL be doing more advanced level stuff to keep you busy. Keep checking in! I am hard at work putting stuff together!

  • well you have your bunch of online stalkers right here waitin, ya hear =D
