  • This version sounds awful. Come on, Sting should've drop the tune for this, he seems to be dying instead of singing. I'll search for the original recorded version. I still love the police, though...

  • Temazooo!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!

  • @ FrancoManna, don't be stupid! I love Gustavo Cerati, but there is nothing like the original.

  • my dream is to have a rock band where every police lyrics that inspired

  • The Gustavo Cerati version is much better.

  • @FrancoManna No disrespect but there would not be a Gustavo Cerati version if it wasn't inspired by the original.

  • yeah!!!

  • I can't believe that Gustavo Ceratii voice is better than Sting's.

  • Is there a longer version of this tune?

  • Cracking band all round!!!

  • When and where was this performed? Is there a full version of this live tune? It is awesome

  • @Brecconable Paris France "theatre de l'empire" Dec 1979

  • @ph59 Cheers for the info

  • Rúzsa Magdi version->better

  • Fucking COPELAND...AMAZING!

  • Yea, okay this does sound a bit like Stevie Nicks covered the main riff of this song for her song 'Edge Of Seventeen'.

  • @axmMusic haha aye it sounds like the bass player heard it in his sleep on the radio, nicks is so cool, guitar player sounds like he thought spinal tap was a real documentary

  • @Campestral Amen, trying desperately to keep the dream alive ;)

  • More Mickey Mouse! :)

  • that kick is amazing!

  • This would have to be so hard to sing and play bass on at the same time. Believe me I've tried.

  • Sting is too sexyyyy

  • Nice. Where did you get this from?

  • @jerseyjamrock From Argentina!!

  • To me, this song epitomizes The Police more then, say, their later pop hits. Is it reggae, jazz, punk or pop? These three band-mates were truly original.

  • FUCKIN UNREAL THE GROOVE

  • Cerati version is really good too!!

  • Whoa, it's been over FOUR years since this video's posted? Damn!

  • Cerati's version is better than this...but he's blown out of the water by the Police's performance of this song at Gateshead, Newcastle.

  • They need to start this song slower, softer -- before Sting gets all jangly on it.

  • this is why...

  • i like cerati's version better, with vinnie colaiuta (i hope i spelled that right)

i think vinnie plays better than copeland. but this one kicks ass too

  • They were a great combination of styles that just worked. Reggae drumming, experimental guitar work, pop bass and 80's vocals/lyrics.

They were a mix on paper you would have thought of like oil and water that would never work but it was a timeless talent that simply makes you feel good. They are a 'can't get enough of' once you listen to any random track. I miss 'em.

  • gustavo cerati upgrades and surpasses this song ;)

  • sting took these cords and used them in his song fragile

  • police is brilliant from mars

  • I do love this song...I do love it.

  • Fuerza Gustavo Ceratti

  • @rockdelsur Палюбас! :)))))

  • the police my first major concert in paris 82 and 83 so many lovely memories plus at the time they were my favorite band what a treat

  • Copeland's a motherfucker on this and that guitar line is awesome.

  • BEST BAND EVER

  • Sting was suffering from voice problems during this leg of the tour. This appears to be Japanese TV? Sting's laryngitis is documented in the 1982 film, "The Police Around The World."

Regatta/Zenyatta was their musical peak as a unit - this is good stuff.

  • @junkbuddhist But this harldy sounds like his voice is messed up, it's one of the best live vocals on this one I've heard

  • Beautiful. The Police had broken up by the time I could see them live though

  • Stewart Copeland is the best drummer ever !

  • @eddievelasco el mejor......

  • @eddievelasco Yeah absolutely right there mate

  • @eddievelasco yeah absolutely right about that my friend know one compares to Stewart "Insane Drumming" Copeland

  • I like the version with Gustavo Cerati and Andy Summers....its sounds awesome

  • Listen to Rúzsa Magdi's version. Her voice is amazing.

  • I like the version with Kenny Kirkland, Branford Marsalis etc. a bit more

  • best band in the world

  • Probably my fave song of all time... just for the chords

  • The remix created in spain (Valencia)

Seach in youtube: Spanic - Bring on the night (Rafa Gisbert & Cristian San Bernardino Extended Remix)

Bucar en youtube: Spanic - Bring on the night (Rafa Gisbert & Cristian San Bernardino Extended Remix)

  • What a frantic pace Stewart set for this rendition.....Ouch...

  • They always played faster live than on their albums, as most bands do...

  • ya but unlike most bands they sound better when they play faster. like this sounds better faster

  • Definitely, I have always liked their live stuff better, so much more energy

  • it's like that in every version of this song.

  • @minkeeman

I like it. I love it. Stew's probably trying to fuck Sting over... which I also like ;)

  • So this is where Stevie Nicks got 'her' chord arrangement for "Edge Of Seventeen!"

  • Listen to the Gustavo Cerati version!

  • I have. It's even better

  • amo a Sting

  • Magdi Ruzsa- Bring on the night

  • I don't like the starting in this as much as the record

  • beautiful song.

  • omg that song is the BEST one the police ever sang

  • now i know why he changed the way he sings.

  • His range on the records was so impossibly high as to be brittle when he sung live. Now he's so much older and his voice has mellowed so he has to sing in a different key to accomodate that.

  • The best music was 60's, 70's and 80's... 90´s and EVER!!!

  • oh man, c'mon, the 90's sucked for music. there were a few exceptions but not many.

  • @FilTonks nirvana, jamiroquai, red hot chili peppers, incubus, infectious grooves... i think is not "few exceptions" ...

  • SamakiBass,You have just given a few exceptions. The 90's was after all a whole ten year period. But hey man I was just in a bipolar mood so ignore me. Got to remember not give my opinions.

  • The best music was 60's, 70's and 80's.

  • Stevie Nicks " Edge of Seventeen" sample this song for her hit song. Listen carefully.

  • I almost expected to hear

"Just like the White winged dove"

these so ngs are so similar, how did this not go to court?

  • what Andy did with the guitar on this song is just amazing..

  • Look Andy summers lesson on youtube, it's not difficult in fact.

  • Like much in music, it's not difficult to play it 90 percent correctly. It's that additional 10 percent that's much harder, and where the true differences between "perfect" and "almost" are illuminated. I agree that BOTN's guitar part is not difficult to play in a "passable" way, but to play it as Andy actually does... quite different, IMO.

  • you're right, it's not difficult

  • An Argentinian music called Gustavo Cerati, made a cover of this song with the production of copeland and andy summers. They called him to made this cover because they knew him from soda stereo, the greatest band of all the times in spanish rock. After recording this song, they offer Cerati to join them, because they want him to be the voice of The police during a world tour. Cerati didn´t accept because he was just separate of soda stereo. Cerati´s song is called "traeme la noche"

  • hell yeah!!

traeme la noche is soo cool (8)

  • i recomend you to listen some songs of soda stereo. They are brilliant. The problem is that their songs are in spanish, that why they never became famous in europe. Only in spain! they started en 1983 and they separate the band in 1997. Last year they made a tour all over america.

  • no hay problema xD... i'm mexican BTW... and i listen to soda stereo everyday... in fact i go to bed with their CD's and the Me Veras Volver CD ...

is nice to see someone from other country who likes spanish songs =)

  • yes is true ...

    me too i know it

    i like his music

    a kiss for you

    bye

  • I thought Cerati din't accept, because he respected a lot Sting, because he was a huge influence in the early compositions of Cerati, but as I mentiones before I'm probably writting bullshit jajaja.

  • :O tienes esa version por cerati???

do u have the version by cerati?

  • camilo194:

That's a bit short-sighted, IMO. Vinnie would probably be the first to admit that Copeland has possibly the most unique style in rock drumming history. And Copeland's also a huge part of the Police sound. Vinnie just doesn't have the energy or "slam" or as much feel as Copeland, either, though he's certainly blessed with his own style, own attitude behind the kit, and definitely a GIANT bag of tricks.

  • Hard to compare the two - when they are both so gifted and accomplished. Zappa wanted vinnie because of his incredible diversity and skill - and incredible timing. Copeland is faster- but maybe not fair to say that he has more feel. Either way - Im no worthy to clean their shoes..

  • what's with that public??? Sitting?!!!!!!

  • didn't you realise that somehow when public is carefully listening (and not jumping) the band actually plays better? ;-)

  • totally excellent

  • The police e Sting un mito grandi anni indimenticabili...

  • Oh wow what a great version of this classic Police GEM. I love the way the song grooves, terrific interplay! Thanks a lot for posting!

  • you need to hear "traeme la noche" de soda stereo!

  • sorry but it is not with soda stereo is gustavo cerati along with andy summers, but really you have to hear it!!!

  • just like the white winged dove.......oh oh oh

  • ahhhh 'Regatta de Blanc' this album is so classic. This album was one of their very best and so underated in so many ways. If you really want to hear some amazing music by the Police buy this CD...it epitomizes their uniquness.

  • pure quality, pure perfection. Sometimes I wish they hadnt reformed, sometimes I'm glad they did. I dunno. They are certainly one of the best groups that ever walked this planet.

  • What is the date for this concert?

  • it was at 3 december 1979

"théatre de l'empire" in paris ( france )

  • This is a good example of why they were so awesome. First of all, where did this sound come from? Nobody has ever done anything like this before or since. Second, although they're still pretty good, there was a big difference when they were younger and sharper. The playing is excellent. Totally free form and totally in sync at the same time.

  • They themselves give credit to reggae for their sound. If you listen to reggae, and not just Marley, you will hear a lot of similar production quality and sound. Not arguing, just saying.

  • Obviously there is a big reggae influence, but their sound goes way beyond reggae. On this song for example, Andy Summers' guitar part is based on Brazilian classical guitar technique. Nobody has ever done anything like this in a rock band.

  • You asked brother. If you knew, why say "where did this sound come from?". Also, their songs are hardly free form. Hardly. They are an extremely syncopated band. Noted for that constantly. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean by free form? The band themselves cites jazz and reggae as big influences. That doesn't mean they don't have others. They are influenced and part of the punk movement, especially on their first two albums.

  • Totally agree with you. Still your former question remains. As for the beatles, it has no answer, other than "pure talent".

  • The best band.

  • I love Andy's guitar on this song

  • Stevie Nicks ripped off this song and turned it into "Edge of Seventeen."

  • This WAS a great lovely song when i first heard it back in 1979 80.Here though on stage it is bloody awful. He is not singing it -he is shouting to be heard straining and strangulating each word.

  • Sting was straining because he had done alot of smaller gigs with Andy & Stewart until they went on R&R for awhile--that's a tired voice, heck I've sounded the same way after drinking and singing w/my buddies a solid week before--be a little more understanding from Mikey...

  • Go Police WOO!

  • these guys haven't aged. They just defined themsevles even more, I don't know how else to describe it. I think Sting is just as great as Frank Sinatra. He's a brilliant artist, so tasteful and a magical performer.

  • If you like this song check out Scorpions Is there anybody there ?

  • O my gosh, I just went to one of their 2008 tour shows, they are still amazing! They have not lost it!!! Sting still has a great voice! Stewart is still amazing at the drums, and Andy can still jam out on the guitar! I hope they keep on touring! They are amazing!!!!!!

  • I know this very well hehe-love you hon and am glad you got to see them (I saw them last year in '07 US Airways Center Phoenix and Sting's son Joe Sumner & Fiction Plane opened for them-that was an awesome night and I also got a free compilation CD of their greatest hits too! ;-))

  • I saw them too dec 2007 and agree with you fully. All of them don't seem to have aged a day. Great, bloody great.

  • Wow, what an incredible song!! One of the classics of this band. The true essence of Police is shown here.

Regatta de Blanc was simply extraordinary!

  • When do you like it, you shoud seeing Ruzsa Magdi -Bring on the night!

  • lol at stings voice breaking.

    what a track, love it

  • amazing song - total chill

  • I think that Gustavo Cerati made an excelent job with a cover called "tráeme la noche", he really reinvented this song that time.

  • I liked The Police - and i still love it, but that girl, is realy fantastic!!! Magdi Ruzsa, just listen it!

  • These guys were great, I grew up with their songs, I am a great Sting fan but have to say that Summers definitely knew his job as a guitar player and Copeland is the best drummer ever(with Keith Moon)

  • "where all the ----- women at"?

  • Mickey mouse is on Stewarts shirt!

    so cutsie!

    XD

  • comentario irrelevante...

  • Wish they would play this live on the final leg of their USA tour. They could at least do something right for the fans..

  • great post!!!

  • muy buen video

    ...

  • muy buen tema!

  • a gustavo cerati le sale muy bien

  • poor guy! his voice is fucked, probably been bangin it out for two years straight.....still worth the money on the night

  • Stings voice is still excellent what are u talking about...

  • You tell them Makenna! ;-)

  • thnxs Warlord!

  • this song has got baaad ass groove

  • stewart copland invented the drums he is god

  • Gary Gilmore. Preserved for prosterity in song for being a stand up guy and saying 'Give me what I've got coming. Not a prevelent trait amongst criminals... Bring on the night!!!

  • funtime, you don't know where this song was in the lineup for the evening; perhaps it was close to the end of the show...in any event, sting's voice was not too bad---a little scratchy and yes, copeland is one of the best drummers of all time!!!

  • He was very famous with the Police

  • And if it was true.......BB

  • he made it after he left the police? this IS the police and they're playing it. hmmmmmmm that'd be hard to do if it were true.

  • No he never! this is early Police Regatta de blanc Days. Early 80'S.
