  • There's lots of Americans who might beat the Kenyans and Ethiopes but none of them have done it just yet.

  • Wow he was right with Mutai

  • who is ryan hall?!!.....i only know the kenyans....

  • its nice to know that other countries than kenya have the potential to be a fast runner

  • Ryan.. u run like wing!!!

  • @fitzone1000 Like wing? Don't you mean the 'wind' xD!

  • @MegaFight4life ...yeah u right..sorry...

  • @fitzone1000 No problem man

  • @MegaFight4life merry x'mas to u...

  • Oye 2hrs con 6.16 no es cascara papa. Buena d Ryan Hall.Congrats Ryan...

  • no wonder their so fast!

my cock is thicker than their arms!

how am i going to keep up with them?

  • @LA6616 lmao

  • Hi....Ryan and Baldini.......

  • i can never understand his hair

  • People race marathons because it *is* a sacrifice, and the reward at the end of it is therefore much greater.

  • that kenyan guy is way too skinny

  • Dude have you seen the legs on marathon runners? all it is muscle they just arnt huge muscles like on sprinters but they are CUT!

  • @cwinget2580 What the hell do you mean sprinters aren't cut?! Have you seen pictures of Usain Bolt with his shirt off? He has a complete 8 pack. Also, study after study has shown that doing interval sprints for 10 minutes is far superior at burning fat than jogging for an hour.

  • I love watching this video

  • @santis142 Jeeze, what an unbelievably idiotic and ignorant comment; nice one man.

  • sprinting is easy... distance running is hard. marathons take guts, patience, and really challenge your mind.

  • @erikthered05 Are you joking? Most pro sprinters train for hours every day. And that's doing INTENSIVE work like shuttle sprints, agility drills and even weightlifting. There is nothing intense about marathon running.

  • I can tell you have never ran a marathon because it is very intense. If you mean that its boring to watch then yes i would agree. Marathon running is taxing on your mind and body, and both take days, sometimes weeks, to fully recover.

Go out there and run for over 10 miles and tell me it wasn't intense!

How about we just say that its really 2 different sports.

  • @erikthered05 With regards to recovery time you have definitely never tried sprinting. Most people's sprint workouts leaves their legs saw for days. And intense is defined as the most amount of effort done in as little time as possible. Yes, running 10 miles is tough, I used to be a die-hard marathon runner before i started sprinting. But i can assure you my 10 minute sprint workouts leave me much more worn out than my 90 minute jogging workouts used to.

  • @santis142 Marathon runners don't do 90 minute jogs. Try 20 mile tempos under 5 minute mile pace. Try running 16 miles at 4:45 pace and then attempt to respond to a mid race kick and quickly drop that pace down to 4:30s before resuming the usual pace. A sprinting workout is nothing compared to the workout of a professional marathoner. 90 minute jog? Try 160 miles a week, 60-90 minute runs under 4:50 pace, and 50 minute tempo runs. Tell me you aren't sore after that.

  • @hibbitish I've done many marathons before, and the London one twice. Even that didn't leave me as worn out as my sprinting ones.

  • @santis142 Probably didnt leave you sore because you suck at it and finished in 10 hours.

  • @467076 I used to be doing semi-professional marathon running actualy, and finished it in 2 hours 42 minutes. I did that for a few years but then realised how much better sprinting is for you.

  • @santis142 you are no distance runner.

  • @santis142 I dont think 2:42 is considered semi-professional thats average.

  • @467076 It's certainly above average, but my point still remains. People spend hours doing slow runs in the hope of obtaining a great looking body, when they don't realise sprinting not only burns more fat but adds muscle too.

  • @santis142 Slow runs ? It's depend what you mean by slow... Long runs is far away better if you want to burn fat. Also, sprinters have not big mucles because they they run that kind of races, but because they need to build their muscles speceficly for sprints. If you want to be convinced just look the way sprinters run : All their bodies work.

  • @santis142 No it doesn't I don't see how an hour sprinting can do anything like 2 a hour LR calorie wise.

  • @467076 2:42 is well above average

  • @viperdude281 No it isnt.

  • @467076 2:42 is top 10% for men if you are considering everyone who runs marathons

  • @viperdude281 Wow then i guess people in my city are super above average then.

  • @467076 In 2005, the average marathon time in the U.S. was 4 hours 32 minutes 8 seconds for men, 5 hours 6 minutes 8 seconds for women. If the marathon you are talking about is a major marathon, then of course the average finishing time will be faster than this, but I highly doubt the average of the marathon you are talking about was 2 hours 42 minutes. Just to be clear I don't believe that the person you were originally responding to ever came close to that time though.

  • @santis142 in the summer time run a 5k or 10k foot race or just try out for the marathon 26.2 mi and start off way in the front where you see the skinny guys or normal or some a little thick looking people ( some of them are 2 hour marathoners in disguise) but try to stay in the front of the pack for the whole race and see has your point of view changed. pro marathoner workout contains both sprinting and long distance runs. I did 15X 400m sprints with a 10mi cool down.now i do 3-4 hour long runs

  • @Scicotion You're missing my point. I'm saying that sprinters have far better bodies than marathon runners. Sprinters actually have muscular ripped physiques, and it annoys me that so many people go on long marathon runs in the hope of getting a better looking bodies when sprinting takes a fraction of the time and gets far better results. Study after study has proven that sprinting is much more effective at burning fat than long distance runs, plus it builds muscle too.

  • @santis142 Sprinters have more ripped bodies because it mostly comes from weight lifting. They dont get ripped and lose fat just by sprinting laps around the track. But in both sports you have to lift weights. In sprinting you have to lift heavy weights which causes you to get big and bulky. Marathon running you have to lift light weights or your own body weight which does not give you bulk. if a sprinter only just sprinted and not lifted weights they would only look like the average guy.

  • @Scicotion wrong. Studies have shown that sprinting on its own causes anabolic hypertrophy in mucles and many sprinters don't even do weightlifting in their training and they are just as muscular.

  • @santis142 You miss respect of sprinters who work hard into gymnasiums and into tracks. When somebody run, he needs all his body.

  • @santis142 I am a soccer player who used to do sprinting, Drills, plyometrics. Sprinters builds muscle because of the program. In sprinting you can rest after the drill then do it again. When I do marathon it is a hell of sacrifice dude. The program is 23 weeks of running, lifting, swimming and plyometrics with only 1 day rest in a week. what can you say?

  • @inimus1 Exactly, so why do people do marathons? When sprinting doesn't take as much sacrifice and gets much better results. To most people, any of the runners in this video look annorexic.

  • @santis142 None of us are saying that marathon training will produce a better body than sprinting. We are saying it's much harder. You proclaim soreness after your sprinting workouts, but you've obviously never done a 10 mile tempo run.

  • wow i cant belive they run for over 2 freakin hours lol those mother f...ers are in some good shape

  • @mra651 not just running, running at sub 4:50 pace ( like Ryan Hall) is very, very hard .. most people would struggle running that for 2 miles back to back, let alone attempt it for 26 miles. That is some HARD running.

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 That is exactly what someone with nothing left to say would say.

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 I'm actually 18 and in college; good guess though, and you actually established yourself as a troll when you searched for a video about distance runners just to hate on them. So not only are you a troll, but also a hypocrite. You are clearly the one who needs to get a life, and a sense of self respect wouldn't hurt either.

  • Must have had marathon pro

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 You're an ignorant prick. Who gives a shit what you look like if you can run a marathon in under 2 hours 10 minutes because I know these guys don't give one.

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 the more muscle mass you have, the more oxygen you need and that will slow you down in the LONG RUN, also, more muscle mass = more weight which will also slow you down, just because their muscles are skinny doesn't mean they are weak

  • if your a distance runner your not going to have alot of muscle mass well thats if your a good distance runner at least! and these are marathoners wtf do you expect for guys that train 30plus miles a day for the last 10 years of there lives????

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 You realize their body is made of steel basically. The more muscle mass the more energy needed to full it. So yeah they are skinny....big surprise for a fucking marathon runner.

  • wilad el mitnaka

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 Ok, fair enough but I'd rather look like them and and be runnin in the olympics than not.

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 What? They have shity looking bodie?. Better than being obese is it not. Also better than looking like a freak on steroids and anyone wanting to look like that would never run a marathon in 2hrs 6mins 37secs which I find to be wayyy more impressive than some wank bulging out ot his shirt.

  • @MrHenrick1 totally agree nicely said!

  • @imfeelinsupersonic94 no they consume more calories than most fatsos but they don't get fat because they run a lot. Get your facts straight.

  • Good job man!! I'm still struggling to do a sub 3 hour time. How the hell am I supposed to cut a whole hour from my current pb lol beats me.

  • come on, mutai, was clearly wind assisted....

  • Goumri well done

  • ryan is the man

  • Ryan Hall has beautiful form.

  • yes he does..great smooth form--he will one day win a big 5 marathon i am sure--i cant wait to see it

  • Great race!

  • bräuchte 5 std.für marathon

  • Ryan is my hero!

  • Merga was 7th!?!? Wow: the London field is crazy strong. Merga won Boston last week.

  • hhow far is the youth one ? im thinking of doing it but i need to know how far it is first ? ScribbleeBAACK.x

  • will haile gebrselassie run the london marathon in this year?please tell me who knows

  • Geb said he intends to run in london 2012 and says he wants to win the london marathon before he is done with running.

  • ive got a question:

last x-mas i run a marathon for myself, and did in aprox 3 hours.

ive only done up to 20k before, so my joints failed on me, especially since it was -5 C, still im wondering if it is an OK time..

    thx

  • if you did 3hrs straight off with no training (and failed joints!) then you should be getting yourself into an Olympic team for 2012!

  • i doubt it m8..the record is 1:59 or something^^

ill do the london marathon as soon as i can..and maybe an agent will pick me up xD

    (i doubt it:-)

  • no dude the marathon record is 2:03:59

  • i just read up on it in the guiness book of records (2006) , and according to that its 1:59 or something..

    anyway..its still about 20kph, and thats fast^^

  • Not to be rash, but no one in the history of the marathon has run under two hours. Some experts even say it's impossible, but hey, that's what they said about the sub-4 minute mile too.

  • ok, but its around two hours. which means 20kph average. and tharts damn fast to keep up over such a distance.

but thenultra-marathon runners are even more insane^^

  • To be honest I don't find the ultra-marathon runners as impressive. Yes they run amazing distances, but they never really seem to strike me as athletes. My friend loves to run long distances for fun, but when she's in a race, she doesn't enjoy it at all. I'm not sure. It's a preference thing.

  • the record was run at Berlin which is a very fast (ie flat and minimal turns); course records are what really matters on the big races.

  • Excellent time. Add in a yoga stretching routine 2-3 times per week and your joints should improve

  • Thanks for the idea!

ill try to get some of these routines today. by the way: do you know if "pilates" does anything, or is it just a hoax?

  • Pilates works, as would any decent core conditioning program (abs, pushups, etc.)--you can find these in Runners World magazine. Basic yoga is the best place to start however as it strengthens and stretches your legs without much risk of injury.

  • ok, ill get cracking tomorrow..

and maybe some pilates in that case, as i hear its extremely important to get your core working..

  • the ultimate lineup....Wanjjiru-Hall-Geb-Gourmi-Lel-Baldini-Meb

  • wanguri is faster than hall but ahll is sooooo awsome

  • ryan hall, what a runner

  • whoa... i got -6 for saying wanjiru has more potential than hall... buncha hall lovers here, eh?

  • maybe cause potential doesn't have much to do with it; Wanjiru is just better and he's like 5 years younger. Wanjiru is an olympic gold medallist for crying out loud!

  • Go Ryan Hall!!!!! God Bless!

  • hey the latest news from Dubai." Haile will attempt to break his current world record of 2.03.59 in Dubai in january next year 2009. he will be aiming for a time of 2.02.59 if he doesnt get injured."

  • I ran with that dude in High School. I have his autograph from when he broke the Mt. SAC record!!

  • Makes you wonder how Beijing will turn out...He definitely has the potential to medal.

  • Ryan Hall 08* Beijing

  • ryan hall is from my home town big bear california!!!!

  • same here dude

  • noureddine

  • best american distance runner ever

  • No, not yet, Pre was the best american distance runner ever.

  • Pre won America's hearts, he's got the reputation. He was like the first really good distance runner, excluding like, Jim Thorpe. Hall's times are better, and Pre never ran a marathon. Could Pre have run sub 2:10? Maybe, but I doubt it. Prefontaine was just the first, and brought american distance running back. USA distance is built on the foundation he built, but I don't know as he's best ever. Depends on whether you go by times, or reputation. Pre's earned his respect though, no doubt.

  • The first really good distance runner? (I assume you mean American). What about Billy Mills and Bob Schul, who both actually WON Olympic gold in Tokyo in 1964 -- and Mills for a time had the WR for 6 miles.

  • i dont mean any disrespect to any of these runners. all of them were great. pre's just the one who gets credit for bringing distance running back to america. shame? maybe, all i said was as of now, ryan hall is the best american distance runner we've had. no one else to date from the usa, pure blodded usa, has been able to run with the kenyans. hall's the first, and he's damn good at it.

  • Thank you for inputing about Pre and Hall. I agree with you a 100% that Pre brought back distance running to america. You're correct, Ryan Hall is a lot faster, but Pre was only a track star, not much of a marathoner. Either way, Hall is a lot faster overall. LETS GO USA!!!

  • I agree that Ryan Hall is amazing. But You have all forgotten about Frank Shorter.

Gold Medal in Munich in 72 at the marathon, and silver(shouldve been gold) in montreal in 76. he had a time of 2:10:30, i believe. very good for that time.

  • WOW! you are very ignornant my friend...no billy mills, frank shorter, bill rodgers, gerry lindren, craig virgin, glenn cunningham, BOB kennedy? these names mean anything to you?? lol you didnt even mention JIM RYUN

  • you can look up names online, way to be.

greats, but not greats like pre or hall.

  • lol IGNORANT as HEEEEELL!!! yes pre is a legend and hall is an amazing up and comer but come on dude...NO JIM RYUN!? do you even know who that is!?

  • yeah i know who jim ryun is, as any distance runner should. great for his time, but whether or not he could've beat pre or hall, who knows. im not putting anyone else down, dont misunderstand me. just saying, halls nasty, i dont know if we've ever had anyone who can run sub 2:07 and stay with the kenyans.

  • The latest New Yorker has an article on Ryan Hall and points out that Pre had (and still has) the highest VO2 max ever recorded. So who knows what Pre could have done? Regardless, it will be exciting to see what Hall does in Beijing.

  • omg hall is so awesome its been so long since we had something like him we all should look up to him and if you dont realize how amazing he his your stupid lol

  • The top-six place player run into 2:07,this is amazing.

  • An outstanding performance from Ryan Hall, and ALL the runners who are in this "elite" group.

They will bring back the glamour of the long distance runner!

  • maybe the future of the american marathoning?

  • I just looked up Wanjiru, wow!

    A Half-Marathon World Record Holder at 18.

But you cannot deny Ryan Halls potential either.

  • FUCK YOU HOMIE

  • w00t ryan hall
