  • I'm going to Barcelona tomorrow. I hope I get to help protest this shit. Bullfighting needs to be thrown into the dumpster of Bad Ideas of History, along with gladiator fighting, bear-baiting, the Spanish Inquisition, and all the other half-assed, stupid, ignorant customs that some morons thought up.

It's nothing more than a bunch of idiots watching the systematic torture and bloody murder of animals. Would you do that to your dog? What's the difference, then? Think about it.

    Don't go!

  • @journeyman47 I really think the world would be a more interesting place if most of those things were still around. God... 'civility' and order and attempts to make everything safe and politically correct, these are the real atrocities. I'm sick and tired of the emasculated world we live in that only gets blander.

  • @jerryhello100: The world is already a VERY interesting place. I LOVE Europe, and only scratched the surface in my 4 months there.

There's PLENTY to see and do for a lifetime without witnessing animal cruelty. Hemingway is dead. So is his century. Wake up, it's a new era, one of enlightenment. Some people just don't know it yet.

P.S. I never did get to protest the bullfight, more's the pity.

  • @journeyman47 Ha, I love how you mentioned Hemingway is dead, because "The Sun Also Rises" is totally what made me open minded toward this medieval, barbaric, excuse for entertainment. I know it's fucked up. I just feel like it's much more nourishing than "Two and a Half Men" and MTV's "the Real World". I don't really have the heart for this stuff, I'm just bored in banal North America. Good for you to have the opportunity to see the world!

  • @jerry: It's funny, I've never read that Hemingway book but I've heard about it; that's why I'm not a huge fan of his. Anyway I know what you mean about bland, anemic, homogenized corporate USA. It's the same from coast to coast. That's why I love Europe; at least they haven't completely modernized and urbanized everything yet... and every country is different. It's cool!

P.S. I cancelled my cable TV last year and don't miss it at all!

  • @journeyman47 Are you still in Europe? If so, how do you finance it? Did yo just save up money from working in America, or do you have a working visa or what? I want to go But I think the money I'd make working for the summer would only last a couple of weeks.

Also, as long as yo aren't watching cable, you should give Hemingway a whirl. He's a partier, and a traveler, and I think most intelligent young men would like his work.

  • @jerry: No, I left Europe sept 2008. I spent 8 months traveling around the world that year, and it was wonderful, but I paid a high price. I had to quit my job and sell my house to do it. Now I live in an apt and am starting all over again with a new job.

As for Hengingway I did read Old Man & the Sea in school but it was so heartbreaking I never read more of his. Maybe it's time to try him again. Which do you recommend? Are they all fiction, or does he tell about Europe in any of them?

  • @journeyman "A Moveable Feast" is autobiographical and about when he was a struggling writer in Paris in his 20's, in the 20's. It's really good, he talks about hanging out with lots of other big writers and artists. I really liked the "Sun also Rises", and "A Farewell to Arms", both of which semi-autobiographical. These have more humor than the Old Man, they feel more relevant, to me, they do end sadly however.

  • Im sure the bull did some soul searching too.

  • IMO bravery is a selfless act intended to help oneself or another...the dictionary describes bravery as 1)the quantity or state of being brave...2)fine clothes...3)showy display...is this a man dressed in fine clothes preforming a barbaric showy display of courage or stupidity...definitely animal cruelty

  • Im sure the Bull tasted good.

  • As far as eating the bull...well I don't know about you...maybe you like tough stringy meat with alot of testosterone in it...most cattle ranchers band their bull calfs at a young age before testosterone is produced...so the meat is tastier and more tender...you are entitled to your opinion...I hope you will do some soul searching...

Those who will NOT see...are TRUELY blind...
