jeez he looks so very young. but the music is so difficult! i am playing this for a concert and have worked very hard for it to sound just a little like this. Go Joe Alessi!!
i got this solo. i plan to play it for solo and ensemble next year. it's to hard to have it ready this year. lol. i need to get better at tenor and treble clef.
hey, it shouldnt make you depressed. You're just starting out and i can see how this can make you go "wow" but you this should make you wanna get as good as you can. He's just human like all of us. He just practiced so much, and I bet if you try you could do the same, just dont give up
and even if he is using a 1 1/2G he pulled that high F no problem,
im using a 6 1/2AL and i hate it!
im getting a christian lindberg 5CL mouthpiece = ], i find it amazing that this guy can stay in that high register soo long and keep his tone open clear and not all raspy and forcefully, i mean i can barley play a high C (with a clear sound) 2 1/2 steps under his high F in this piece.
is it true Alessi uses a 1/12 g sized mouthpiece? cuz i have trouble hittin that super F on a 61/2 al and i couldnt imagine doin it on that huge mouthpiece lol
I really like this song. I played bass trombone, but I just could quite get up to that F. This would have been a nice recital piece; nice and bluesy and tonal. You sort of lose that upper register if you don't do it much.
Alessi is so awesome. He came up to our university last April for about a week, and it was unbelievable. Master classes, a recital, lessons, played at a local jazz combo, and soloed a piece with our concert band. Deep impression indeed!
There's a recording of him playing this piece on the CD "Slide Area" if you're interested in higher quality (although it is nice seeing him play it). I actually got that one signed by him.
Wow he looks so much older now I just recently watched a video of him and Wycliffe Gordon giving a clinic at the Lincoln jazz center and he looks so much older compared to him I guess the glasses he had on made him look older great video even though the sound wasn't the greatest in the world its still an amazing video.
That was totaly uncalled for. You probably couldn't hold a tone to save your freaken mouth piece. You have no idea what Lindberg has done on the trombone. Way more than a typical American trombone player.
Lindberg is a fantastic player. I hate his equipment, but I'm a tubist. Instead of starving for years waiting on a job to open up and beatuing 50 others who would deserve the job, I became engineering faculty at a top tier engineering school.
Music, what a beautiful art, but what a wretched profession.
yea you have to be the best or you cant make it >_> thats why so many people switch majors when they get to college out of music...because they cant handle it and they realize how big the musical world is
Never had the desire to live through the misery, pal. Plus I had a perfect 800 mathematics section on the SAT. Engineering was for making money, low brass is for fun.
thats kinda the point >_> the best are those who love what they do...and when you get paid to do that it makes you feel like your on top of the world. besides alessi probably makes more money than you being a principal player and having his own workshop that people pay 2000$ to go to
He makes about what university professors in engineering make, maybe less than most engineering faculty in real dollars when you adjust for the cost of living in NYC. There was a part of me that never wanted to prostitute something I loved so dearly, so I majored in engineering right off the bat. I studied with enough professionals to see that there were enough days when they wanted to throw their horn off a bridge to know that chasing an orchestral career was not for me.
this has to be older than 2006 if it is alessi... it may be alessi, maybe in the early to mid nineties.. tone sounds like it... and it looks like he has an edwards, which is alessi's horn
Yes, the sound is not great--but have you ever recorded yourself on a VHS camcorder? It's impossible to sound good on one of those. He (this is Alessi!) sounds amazing, despite the poor sound quality. Thanks for posting!
Amazing, simply put. I just got the music for this and realize I have quite a bit of work to do. An amazing performance.

Don't be depressed, according to my college prof, this guy is a great player but a real d-bag.

This video is amazing. Sound quality doesn't do Alessi justice, specifically in the high range, but I'm so happy to see it here.

ive heard from very trustworthy sources, (members of the ITA) that he uses a 1g mouthpiece.
lordofdastrings76 2 years ago
I'm not sure if he changed recently, but the last I heard he plays a Greg Black mouthpiece modeled after a 6.5 AL but with a wider rim.
greymatgmail 2 years ago
yeah its wierd he designs for Greigo but plays on a Greg Black.

@greymatgmail no way thats a 6.5 its more in the 3.5-4G range

Both Lindberg and Alessi are phenomenal.... but Alessi has far superior tone... Noone has the quality and depth of tone that Alessi does.
