I love this song. An unholy amount. Problem is, i cant find any other Underoath songs that are like this. Most other ones arent as emotional or melodic (sorry underoath fans, i dont mean it in a dickish way).
ive looked through probably only about 10 songs but yeah, any suggestions for songs i may enjoy?
You'll probably want to check out the song 'When the Sun Sleeps' or some stuff off of They're Only Chasing Safety. That's some of the more melodic and emotional stuff.
@Regularb519 they changed the venue. i live in virginia beach. its at shakas. shits gonna get real now. hardcore dancing, stage diving and all that fun shit
I used this song on the credits of a video project about 9-11 made for school last year with pictures of the towers etc and then the Taliban when the screaming came in. Everyone in my class got real emotional and some cried during it. I pre ordered the album and was trying find a song for my video, and the album came just in time for me to choose the perfect song. Gotta love Underoath <3
@12321Walrus Just start listening to all the albums starting from Define the Great Line. I couldn't really get into them for a while but now they're one of my favorite bands. But in the mean time, check out the song "Emergency Broadcast: The End is Near"
Heart Failure and if Dialysis is involved its sounds like renal failure as well. Although all situations are unique this doesn't necessarily mean goodbye.
This song reminds me of my Granny who is in ICU who is suffering to breathe.... because fluid keeps filling her lungs. Has to go on dialysis to try to cure it.. but I can see it in her eyes that her time is almost up. I know I have to let go some day. This song sums up everything.
I feel like this song has to do with drug addiction (Spencer used to have a terrible cocaine addiction before he found Christianity, so it's a pretty good possibility, but it's just my opinion.). Also, if there is one good thing that came from Aaron's departure, it would be this song. Absolutely incredible.
cheers to Whitey Bulger...6/22/11 forever known as the day they caught the most epic fish monster who ever lived...anyone who has no idea what im talking about go watch "The Departed"
@Ostrander17 not the o, the others in their video and on their merch, look it up. im not here to argue this stuff with anyone. i just think it is really strange that they would use them now, the same time when like all the mainstream pop -lady gaga, katy perry, rhia, beyonce ect are using them in their videos also, maybe they are a warning?
not really. Illuminator for instance (the song everyone says is about the Illuminati) is about kids being forced to believe things by their parents. As for the other songs here they all have meanings that aren't Illuminati related. They have always been good at being very general with their songs plus they have the Illuminati t-shirts (which they didn't even know were the Illuminati symbols if you watch a podcasts) simply cuz they thought it the picture looked cool.
underoath a christian band but uses satanic symbols? sorry i REALLLLLLLYYY like underoath and they have been my favorite for years .. but the symbols and stuff are a little weird.. i mean why would a bunch of christian followers want to rock that stuff on their shirts. ?.. yeh ill pass. i hope you guys dont change your direction.
@KriLeyTUBE That's not a Satanic symbol, it's a Scandinavian letter and sounds like an "uh" sound for us. Sadly, like the rainbow being taken from God to be "Gay Pride", symbols can be taken from anything and changed depending on the culture.
Everyone talking about Aaron must not realize that he was the only original founding member left. You literally see how Aaron, as a person and as an artist excelled in his ambitions from their very first released material to the last album. It's a sad loss for fans of Underoath, especially the ones who've grown and matured verbatim to the music. They're still a good band, just not the same.
I think I know now why Aaron left. Underoath is part of the Illuminati and I guess aaron didn't want to be part of it so he left. In their new music video "Paper lung" near the end they show pictures of the "Eye triangle symbol" and other Illuminati pictures. That's just my opinion
@Uofreak16 You should go to their page on Facebook and read about it. Spencer declines as well as the other 5 members being a part of the Illuminati. I can't give an explanation to why they used those symbols. Either they are or they are doing it for spotlight. I have no knowledge to say whether they are or aren't, but do find it quit interesting...
@zobernuts uhh dude it deals for the most part with Spencers former addiction to cocaine and his battle to overcome it. listen to the lyrics...water is a metaphor for how drugs drowned out his life and how it almost destroyed him.
Sounds like a harder version of Deftones (nothing wrong with that). You just don't have the same dynamics without Aaron. The screaming is still good, and I would even accept the drummer, but the singing style is very different than their previous albums. Less colorful, with alot less fire.
i miss Aaron to death, but damn, this is a GREAT album, impressed with how much Spencer has progressed with his vocals since They're Only Chasing Safety
UNDEROATH USED TO BE MY FAVORITE BAND BUT WITHOUT AARON THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!! NOW I RATHER LISTEN TO MARILYN MANSON AND SLIPKNOT AND SATANIC BANDS LIKE GORGOROTH
Also, this song was awesome live, though the crowd did seem to mosh in all the wrong places and it was only me who seemed to get the flow of the song live. Which was weird, but nothing to do with the band.
@scrumpyJ5 cause some people go to shows only to mosh. when i saw pierce the veil with a day to remember, there was so much moshing at the wrong places!
@wannabewentz8 oh I know people do just go for the mosh, I prefer moshing myself when I'm actually getting into a song I know. The break at the end of this song was epic and highly appropriate for some full-on flailing mosh! I remember up until then Spencer had been the long, wavery notes with lots of hands in the air, which I was kinda doing back to him on the edge of the pit. He even looked at me at on point, and it felt like I was the only one who connected with him on that song.
Let's set the record straight. Aaron brought his angelic vocals and fantastic drumming to Underoath, however they've done a good job replacing both of those aspects and Spencer has picked up the singing very well. I saw them last week, they were incredible, Spencer can sing as well on as on record and the clean/ screamed combo was pulled off the same. Aaron did have a lovely voice, but members move on and it's all too their credit that they've not only carried on, but carried on spectacularly.
@nexusvision10 People ARE ridiculous. Granted I'm very much one of them, but nahhh well :) also, awesome profile pic by the way. I am tired of all the 'fans' who have written Underoath off now that Aaron has left, but he was there for yearrrrrs, and we'd all admit we'd love him to front his own band. I've been combating people on Rise Against vids all week for calling them sellouts for not screaming as much as in earlier records. Have you seen Underoath live before then?
@scrumpyJ5 I have not seen them live, but I very much want to. I've always been of the opinion is that what makes Underoath's sound constantly good without getting old is that it always changes. No two albums have been the same. Now, I would have loved it if Aaron had been able to stay, since DTGL is my favorite album out of them all, but that wish is outweighed by my curiosity as to where UO will go next once Daniel gels with the band and vice versa. It's always an awesome thing.
@scrumpyJ5 As for bands selling out, I don't think that is an adequate way to describe all bands that reduce the amount of screaming. Perfect example: A Day To Remember. They've always had the sound that they have on their newest album, but that sound has evolved into something cleaner and more balanced, because there's still screaming, but there's also the clean choruses they've always had. So, my conclusion is that they didn't sell out, they just became better writers, song structure-wise.
@nexusvision10 That's my point, I've been telling people that bands that use less screaming haven't necessarily sold out, but fans appreciate some bands solely on that technique. There's probably many a reason why various bands have reduced screaming on albums and haven't sold out, but some people don't see past that and instantly write certain artists off. So, have you seen Underoath live before? I'm interested in what others have thought of them, people who genuinely love what they do
@scrumpyJ5 I haven't seen them live before, but I want to. I've bought their live albums, Survive/Kaleidoscope and Live at Koko and they always sound great. Tim McTague is a legend to me, surprisingly un-talked about. He's pretty much my inspiration when it comes to playing guitar. I might forgo seeing The Devil Wears Prada at Warped for the opportunity to see Underoath in Covington or some other closer location to Cincinnati.
@nexusvision10 I think it's McTague who does the clean vocals these days. Survive Kaleidoscope is amazing, and I was at the show before the Koko show, so saw the same setlist and it was magical. I don't know any Devil Wears Prada, but I would probably skip almost any band these days to see Underoath. Really wanna see Returning Empty Handed one day!
@scrumpyJ5 The Devil Wears Prada is a more metal-core based band, but they're also very, and I mean very Christian oriented. Not the same style of lyrics as Underoath, but the lyrics are ambiguous much like Underoath's. You'd probably enjoy them, they've gained a lot of traction on the metal-core scene in the past years. They're recording their fourth full length album right now, and their last two releases, With Roots Above and Branches Below, and the Zombie EP are very high on my list.
@nexusvision10 Nice, I will definitely check them out then. So, are you religious, or just find their lyrics fantastic from a more secular viewpoint like me? Also, favourite Underoath album? Sorry for all the questions, it's just I only have one friend who really likes Underoath too, so I like to find out other people's perspectives on their music.
@scrumpyJ5 I'm religious, so I do like them from that aspect. It's inspiring to see a religious band such as this one gain so much traction and really go out there and captivate as many people as they do. Whether the people enjoy the band from a religious standpoint or from a secular standpoint, Underoath excels and it's amazing to watch. Initially, it was UO that got me into religion, my parents don't actively practice. As you can see, for me, they're more than just a band I listen to.
@nexusvision10 wow, for Underoath to actually convert you, that's impressive. Kinda makes my love of Underoath seem fairly detatched now.... for me, it's more maximum respect for what they do and who they are as people that draws me to Underoath. I have absolutely no problem with Underoath's practice of religion, because it's what I believe is the way religion should be conducted. Right, well certainly go and see them live very soon, if they're the musical light of your religion!
@scrumpyJ5 Yup, exactly, they taught me I could be religious and not outward or overbearing with it. Not that I can't be outward with it, but I just prefer to keep it inside for me because that's what feels right. I found what works for me, and I can say it's made me a better person for it.
@scrumpyJ5 Favorite album is Define The Great Line. To me, there has always been something about that album that just stands out, although I could never really find the words to describe what it is.
Don't get me wrong, I really dig Underoath's TOCS-LITSOS era stuff, but fuuuu- this just blew that away. Vocals are better, drumming is way more dynamic and interesting, this album is just a monster.
you guys are retarded. as long as they keep making music and not break up like many other bands are doing now a days. UNDEROATH STILL RULES ON MY IPOD.
@ATwiztidNiNjA I think your spitting in the face of chris by saying that. he wasnt in the first EP but was in the 2nd and he's still here. get at me bro.
@hammered4life bands change they would never be able to last if they stayed the same...especially these days. .. if they stay the same fans get bored sucks but its true ive loved underoath since dallas taylor lol an still love them now but yeah sucks how society is now
They said the music video would be out in a couple weeks at the concert on the 29th of January. They also said that they'd been telling people that for a while now, so yeah, probably going to be a while. If it is, I hope it's worth it, and a little more than showing them playing music for four minutes straight.
Is its just me? Or does Spencer some what sound like Anthony Green? Ecpecially @2:17... EIther way he sounds amazing just thought I would point it out. :)
Spencers vocals are better fit for this band. Aaron kindof made the band lame. If you Still like aaron go look up his band The Almost. Hes doing great in that band.
hey but it wasn't exactly like aaron some sweet cute little voice either though, he had the uncanny ability to sing and yell. spencer's voice is surprisingly higher and a bit more generic, but i still dig because it's underoath
This is easily UnderOath's greatest album. There is so much meaning and feeling behind these words and the music is very interesting. These songs drive me to tears, Spencer has one heck of a testimony. Great job UnderOath, I applaud.
@wetnoodle666 UO has nuver had break down lol. Saying they should have changed their name is like saying they should have changed their name when dalas left. Oh wait you probably don't know who that is because you weren't around that time. Probably only when Aaron started up his side band so he could show his vocals off lol.
@wetnoodle666 How does my comment prove I know nothign about music? I would love for you to tell the musical theory professor at BERKLEE how he knows nothing about music.
Sound of seperation = equally as great i just prefer the dark emotional chaotic sound that define was but everyone gets a different vibe from music
this album seems a mix between sound and define and its composed beautifully even tho i miss aaron but i love daniels drumming ever since i listened to the first norma jean record spencer is prolly singing more as he gets old im sure screaming takes its toll on vocals whether your trained or not
Im not trying to be a troll but this album sounds depressing

Sorry for all the questions, it's just I only have one friend who really likes Underoath too, so I like to find out other people's perspectives on their music.
scrumpyJ5 10 months ago
@scrumpyJ5 I'm religious, so I do like them from that aspect. It's inspiring to see a religious band such as this one gain so much traction and really go out there and captivate as many people as they do. Whether the people enjoy the band from a religious standpoint or from a secular standpoint, Underoath excels and it's amazing to watch. Initially, it was UO that got me into religion, my parents don't actively practice. As you can see, for me, they're more than just a band I listen to.
nexusvision10 10 months ago
@nexusvision10 wow, for Underoath to actually convert you, that's impressive. Kinda makes my love of Underoath seem fairly detatched now.... for me, it's more maximum respect for what they do and who they are as people that draws me to Underoath. I have absolutely no problem with Underoath's practice of religion, because it's what I believe is the way religion should be conducted. Right, well certainly go and see them live very soon, if they're the musical light of your religion!
scrumpyJ5 10 months ago
@scrumpyJ5 Yup, exactly, they taught me I could be religious and not outward or overbearing with it. Not that I can't be outward with it, but I just prefer to keep it inside for me because that's what feels right. I found what works for me, and I can say it's made me a better person for it.
nexusvision10 10 months ago
@scrumpyJ5 Favorite album is Define The Great Line. To me, there has always been something about that album that just stands out, although I could never really find the words to describe what it is.

Aaron is not all of UnderOath people, I personally think UnderOath is better than they have ever been, even with Aaron gone.

Aaron is the person who made underoath AMAZING. And not just another metal band..now they're just another metal band..Was my favorite band..
ebbawler333 10 months ago
Hey guys, we're a metal/hardcore band from Paris, France, if you have some time check us out, we uploaded remastered songs!
P.S. Sorry for using this page to promote the band but you know, I have to do it somehow.

Don't get me wrong, I really dig Underoath's TOCS-LITSOS era stuff, but fuuuu- this just blew that away. Vocals are better, drumming is way more dynamic and interesting, this album is just a monster.

Aaron may be gone, but they still sound just as good, if not better than before. :)
The new drummer is a beast, mad props to him. And Spence can sing. In fact, he sounds almost the same as Aaron, just a little more gruff than him.

They said the music video would be out in a couple weeks at the concert on the 29th of January. They also said that they'd been telling people that for a while now, so yeah, probably going to be a while. If it is, I hope it's worth it, and a little more than showing them playing music for four minutes straight.

Spencers vocals are better fit for this band. Aaron kindof made the band lame. If you Still like aaron go look up his band The Almost. Hes doing great in that band.

@Lunyro nah, Cove sounds better....Spencer wasn't meant to sing clean vocals :\
SoCalDuude879 1 year ago
hey but it wasn't exactly like aaron some sweet cute little voice either though, he had the uncanny ability to sing and yell. spencer's voice is surprisingly higher and a bit more generic, but i still dig because it's underoath

This is easily UnderOath's greatest album. There is so much meaning and feeling behind these words and the music is very interesting. These songs drive me to tears, Spencer has one heck of a testimony. Great job UnderOath, I applaud.

wetnoodle666 1 year ago
@wetnoodle666 what breakdowns? lol
xAsiLayDying17x 1 year ago
@wetnoodle666 UO has nuver had break down lol. Saying they should have changed their name is like saying they should have changed their name when dalas left. Oh wait you probably don't know who that is because you weren't around that time. Probably only when Aaron started up his side band so he could show his vocals off lol.

Define = amazing and still one of my top albums
Sound of seperation = equally as great i just prefer the dark emotional chaotic sound that define was but everyone gets a different vibe from music
this album seems a mix between sound and define and its composed beautifully even tho i miss aaron but i love daniels drumming ever since i listened to the first norma jean record spencer is prolly singing more as he gets old im sure screaming takes its toll on vocals whether your trained or not
