I still have relatives that live there, and say it was better before Castro. I educated myself, I don't know what you mean by 'textbook'. Most textbooks have biased capitalistic opinions on the Cuban Revolution and would say things close too what you say. Everything was NOT nice for the Cuban people before Castro came to power. All I said about Batista and Pre-Castro Cuba was completely true. Batista was a brutal, greedy lassez-faire capitalist who only cared for himself. The mafia exploited Cuba. Cubans didn't help Castro in the revolution for no reason.

It certainly is impressive that the Fidel and co. have managed to keep Cuba independent for all these years, in spite of the trade embargo, assassination plans, and general ill will of the U.S. It would be good for both countries if they could once again trade with one another. Imagine the tourism industry that would flourish once again in Havana. I would go. But the island would probably lose some of its otherwordly charm which has come from its isolation.

I just came back from Cuba the end of April, my brother got married there...and it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, we stayed in barcelo solymar in varadero. I loved the fiesta`s and they absolutely adore Canadians. I am going back in the end of June because it is such a great country with great people :o)
