  • NASA should just invent artificial gravity. It would makes everything so much easier.

  • It's like a real life invention exchange on Mystery Science Theater 3000! MST3K FTW!

  • thank you darth vader

  • It makes me happy for the human race but sad that i will never get to experience it in my lifetime :(

  • SCIENCE!!!

  • Help us promote better Coffee Health, KingwoodCoffeeClub (dot) com

  • use a straw

  • I have a question, if you drank the coffe would it float around in your stomic lol just wondering

  • there is already liquid in the stomach so it would just mix with it.

it seems like digestion doesn't need gravity to work out.

  • Air Pressure's the name of the game my boy.

  • Nah, it'll mix with the acid in your stomach, and since the process of digestion, uses enzymes, no matter what, so long as the acid and the liquid mix, it'll digest, then transfer what's needed to your bloodstream.

After that, the body will push the waste down where it should go. Gravity doesn't really bother the human digestive system, almost as if we're already ready to live in space... weird

  • The experiment shown here is based on a discovery by P. Concus and R. Finn, announced in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, June 1969, 63(2), 292-299. One can wonder why it took so long to try it out.

  • i had no idea STARBUCKS was funding this shuttle mission.

  • It's so cool

  • But, will this work with the celebratory champagne or do the bubbles screw it up? ;-) Seriously, very interesting stuff for us laymen (or women, in my case). I'm gobsmacked, as the Brits would say, that in my lifetime we've gone from grainy black and white pics of the moon landing, to being able to watch clips such as this on my computer. Ain't life grand? Don't forget to watch tonight, kids, as the moon, Jupiter, and Venus line up in their closest visit for the next 40 years. Space rules!

  • That's so cool. must be a nice coffee in space

  • is this what they get paid to do?

  • That is so cool. :)

Just curious what kind of coffee were you drinking?

  • how fun much too work for me in the morning for sure I'm a bear when I wake up thanks for shareing jazzerfan70

  • mad but really cool

  • Now That's "Cool Beans Gang" Bravo! For setting up this channel. Super vids & yall have all, da good stuff--Hardware-wise, optics. Your the Best! Ladies & Gents. Best Onya. This vid goes to my Favorites..

  • THAT Was sooo cool!1

  • haha cool

    (Has Men's Blog TOO!... Priceless)

  • "a cup of joe in space" haha thats dirty.... is it really coffee?

  • yep

  • kool

  • my bag is your bag too

  • engineers kick ass

  • Haha. God help us if the "brightest" minds on earth talk like this. The narrator clearly can't articulate a single thought properly.

  • I love NASA program and actually don't mind my tax dollars going to fund it, unlike so many other government expenditures.

  • Now, what was that? @ 2:38

Something glitches with the video and the coffee residue moves off of the folded film and is suspended in mid air. Looks very odd.

  • Cool!

  • and again, what a great advance technology, now, we can drink cofee in the space like in earth ¬¬

and that cofee is too light, I like black cofee.

I comment just cos some ppl got mad

  • that's plain awesome

  • we REALLY enjoyed that ~_~

  • mmmm zero gravity colostomy bag.

  • what keeps the coffee from floating up his throat and out his mouth?

  • Strong muscles along the esophagus keeps things where they should be. These muscles are called smooth muscles. They are not under our own control, but rather the autonomous nerve system.

  • thanks for that!

  • "what keeps the coffee from floating up his throat and out his mouth?"

    Surface tension.

Fluids (depending on the fluid in question) have surface tension, the urge for it to prevent penetration at the surface level. The form of this cup is utilizing this natural aspect of fluid to keep it where desired.

It's the same effect that some bugs use to walk on water.

Look up "surface tension." It's an interesting topic.

  • Peristalsis, not surface tension.

  • "Peristalsis, not surface tension."

Lookie there! I got the wrong answer to the wrong question.

    Now, THAT's talent. ;)

  • Oh sorry, I misread your question. I thought you asked about the cup, not his throat. My mistake.

  • wow even nasa can get trolled.

  • looks more like piss than coffee.

  • man, i want to be an astronaut so bad.. i was going to go to the air force academy but i have severe asthma.

  • but will it blend?

  • that is the question.

  • that is the question

  • 1 i guess the suck it from a from bag is just way to fuck up

2 have fun with the fuck millions spend to realize that stupid shit

  • very cool

  • why not just put that ship into a slow rotation so that there IS gravity

  • Also, the size a vessel would have to be to generate gravity that way would have to be massive, because it's not consistent as you move towards the center of rotation.

The shuttle is not large enough, nor can it afford to loose usable surfaces to such a fleeting goal.

  • That sounds great, but it's not the solution you're imagining.

That's not a viable solution with the shuttle.

For one, the shuttle is designed to utilize 3D space that has microgravity being an advantage. In the same way you cannot utilize your home's ceiling for usable space, the advantage of more total use of space would be lost if an attempt to generate such gravity was attempted, causing the shuttle to be effectively smaller.

  • how does that work again?

  • it will take a real big ship and spin it real fast

  • It's kind of cool, if you're an old NASA hand and are already used to the fact that drinking liquids in space requires a tube and a bag: "Hey look, we can actually drink fluids almost like you do on earth!" The Earthification of space isn't that breathtaking.

    More rockets please.

  • They tryied so much with that pen...why did they not used pensil first..xaxaxaxa...nasa..xaxaaxa...:D

  • "why did they not used pensil first"

    Pointy pencils piercing flightsuits?

    Broken leads?

    Pencil sharpeners?

    Shavings floating in the orbiter?

    Breathing in graphite dust?

Wood chips in the electrical contacts?

Laugh all you like. We'll leave the thinking to the thinkers, thank you.

  • I am sure if USA discover OIL in the Moon, there will be an entire base in the moon in 1 year.

  • Oooh, pithy.

  • whats mean pithy?

  • "I am sure if USA discover OIL in the Moon, there will be an entire base in the moon in 1 year."

    Fossil fuel on the moon?

I gather you're just trying to be funny.

    Trying VERY hard, I guess.

Well, keep trying to apply your oil-scorn humor in other venues. You may strike a gusher yourself some day.

    ...just not today.

  • there would be some kinda conflict over it 1st.

  • WHats the reason that they want to conquer the space? we dont even know completely our own planet yet, and we already destroying our own planet, so, we need another world to destroy?

  • "we dont even know completely our own planet yet"

What NASA does IS part of that.

Aren't you environentalist enought o realise that space IS THE EARTH'S ENVIRONMENT!

"we already destroying our own planet

The jury is still out on that one.

"so, we need another world to destroy?"

Sad. Aren't you glad NASA exists despite people like this? I know I am.

  • I hope you know where oil comes from...Think about what you just said here...and get back to us

  • ofcourse I know, you dont have to aply your nerd coments to me. You didnt get the sarcasm.

  • Apparently you don't know what sarcasm is...And I'm afraid I'm far from being a nerd...so comments are unlikely to be nerd comments

  • "WHats the reason that they want to conquer the space?"

What leftists call "conquer" normal humans call "explore".

You have no recognition of the human condition, that expansion, progress, growth, advancement, and striving for new horizons is as compulsory as taking our next breath.

  • Looks more like whiskey than coffee...where do you get coffee in space? Starbucks?

  • lol

  • this isnt that cool

  • Interesting

  • cool~!!

  • Pretty cool!

  • Looks like a thin cup of Coffee :)... Sure it is not tea ^^?

  • Heheh

  • Don't be so negative,Spetznaz. It's just a funny cup x3 Space cup,tehe...

  • i want to go up in space

  • 2 * 90 minus the contact wetting angle, got it

  • LOL

  • Really cool!

  • This is Great, Thanks Youtube for promoting.

  • KEEP SIPPIN' AND SIPPIN'

  • I wonder what happens to food or liquid in your stomach in space? Does it float too?

  • Isn`t that a big no no in todays space stations? (liquid and electronics)

  • how do they shit and piss in space?

  • seat belts on the toilet pretty much

  • and a vacuum

  • That's a neat invention. This is how people in the future will need to solve problems to live everyday life in space.

But the way that astronaut talks is kinda odd....

  • If i wanted to become an astronaut, what would i have to do? im 16 and in middle school.

  • Ask NASA..heh

  • Gives new meaning to Starbucks. Anyone else seeing this video in 16:9 AR or did my video card crap-out again.

  • nope, its normal, youtube is introducing a new format ^^

  • LOL

As long as we have cup holders, there will be space travel.

  • LOL! This is great fun! I never knew that simply by shapes and surface tension you could keep a liquid in an open container. I do like seeing some real life enjoyment in addition to the very serious work being done up there.

So... is Juan Valdez going to be coming up on the next shuttle flight? :-)

    Moosie

  • I wanna see that columbian guy with the mule show up and deliver it though.

    It's not really coffee otherwise.

Hehe awesome video guys. Awesome to see that it's not all just boring routine up there, but you have a little fun too ; )

  • Extremely cool but I'll bet space coffee tastes bad!!!!

  • That is SO cool! Makes me want to be an astronat - just to try that out!!

  • That is so cool. Can they see niburu up there?

  • thats some strange looking coffee, awesome video though

  • kewl

  • lmao
