how about lula, evo morales, the kirchners, lugo, and correa? you parrot official doctrine in spouting lies about dictatorship and falsehoods of state media control in venezuela. lets see, when did chavez shut down a private media company? well, the one that actively took part in supporting the coup against him. what if the NYT supported a coup against bush? well, the NYT would be executed, everyone would agree. would bush be called a "censor" of media then?
the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of the press continues to be allowed to operate despite the fact that they are heavily anti-chavez. if chavez were really a censorist, he would shut them all down or take sneaky tactics - which bush has been documented to do - to silence criticism. why do you reflexively swallow whatever the US media says without giving a little thought to their arguments?
and what about the fact that venezuela's population reports the highest satisfaction with democracy in the region? why is it that all the leaders in the region except perhaps uribe of colombia (which has the worst human rights record in the region and has been noted by human rights watch and amnesty intl to kill dissidents before elections) support chavez?

Presidentes de Latinamerica, by presidentestv is an excellent series here on youtube in which numerous Latinamerican presidents are interviewed. However, you must speak spanish to comprehend. Therein lies the limitation of Americans.

I think Hugo Chavez does an excellent job of getting his message out to people beyond Venezuela, and it's thanks in large part to Youtube and other video sharing sites. He's an international celebrity because of these sites. Although some of his most memorable and historic speeches have been removed from Youtube, which makes me suspect censorship. A bigger problem is, Americans don't speak Spanish! No comprenden nada!
