Brilliant! This is sadder than Tennessee Williams. I love how the memories shine in the cat's eyes. Notice how the music goes from major to minor and back, to show that this is how life is, that there wouldn't be sadness if not for the happiness, and conversely, happiness without the sadness. Almost unbearable contrast.

Nel commovente episodio animato "Valzer triste" di Jean Sibelius un gatto si aggira per una casa in rovina, ricordando malinconicamente il passato. I suoi ricordi sembrano diventare realtà, accendendo le sue speranze, ma nel giro di pochi istanti scompaiono, facendo ripiombare l’ animale in una realtà desolante. L’atmosfera dei sei episodi animati è surreale. Film originale con un equilibrio tra disegni, animazioni, storia raccontata e musica. Un capolavoro.

Avevo visto questo film da piccolo e rimasi impressionato e commosso... non l'avevo più rivisto, non sapevo quale fosse il film, non ricordavo gli attori né l'autore della musica (ero piccolo). Oggi ho incontrato questo video, per caso, con la sequenza che più di tutte mi aveva rapito!!!!

I saw the movie - twice - when it first came out. Even though it is "merely" a parody of Disney's Fantasia, It is brilliant all on its own. And this may be the best sketch in matching the music's theme to the animation. Sadly enough, very few people have heard of this film.

This video has been in my family's library ever since I can remember. I still have the VHS for it. Even though the film is mostly funny, this bit has always been heartwrenching--the piece is very aptly named. This one and "Bolero" are my favorites.
