  • on the middle one

there's a simbol, shield i dunno how to called

    from the right to left

    the second and third

what does that shield simbol archivement means??

sorry 4 my english i'm from argentina

  • @toyama14 Those are family crests.

  • Is there a name for this set? Or is it simply roppon kumite?

  • that was an excellent show of toyama-ryu, thanks :D

  • Great kiai :)

  • what does Toyama mean in japanese?

  • It's the name of a city, and the name of the military school (Rikugun Toyama Gakko) where the sword style was created in the mid 1920's. The kanji is 戸山 meaning "Door Mountain."

  • It refers to the Toyama military academy where this style was developed, I believe.

  • @Lyubefan

The Toyama Ryu Kata was designed for the Japanese Military as a method of sword training so that they could draw swords and successfully use them without accidently cutting eath other up during training.

I have recently started learning Toyama Ryu at my dojo and I enjoy it a great deal

  • this is so awesome!

people who are not impressed by this are really dumb there is much more than it meets the eye.so called samurai demonstrations in xma may look impressive but they use fake swords which are lighter in weight, and techniques in xma are not really effective in real life, its looks good in "reel" life though.

  • Toyama- to yama means it is a hole in russian...

I have a japanese friend who's name is Toyama Tokanava- It is either a whole or a ditch!))))))

  • i guarantee they are not using shinken they are using iaitos made by Paul Chen

  • How much you want to wager on that? I saw them do tameshigiri right after this. WHY would anyone want a Paul Chen Iaito in Japan?

  • Outstanding kiai (spirit). Very good control. I can almost feel the pressure between those two just watching it!

  • that must have really sucked being on the left, he is always the losser

  • He isn't the loser per say. You see this is kata. So they're executing a fixed set of patterns. In which case, one side is the "loser" while the other is the "winner."

There's nothing sucky about being the "loser". The whole kata depends on how both of them do it. The "loser" is very important if they are to do it correctly.

  • Spectacular 'kiai'. Close to overkill.

  • wow. very nice

  • Nice job. Very nicely done considering that they are using Shinken. =)

  • one more reason for me not to piss off someone wielding a sword

  • Spectacular demo

  • really great done, respect.

  • Superb.

  • amazing precision, escpecially when u consdier ther using live swords

  • Real katanas or iaitos ?

  • These two gentlemen are using sharp, steel blades. These are called "shinken" as opposed to iaito, which are made of zinc and other alloy and cannot be sharpened.

  • They're using shinken here? Wow ... I'm not sure I'd do this with shinken.

  • well done

  • I like the kiai!

  • excellent presicion these guys are good

  • *very* nice

  • These guys were doing Kumi-iai with shinken and were doing sun-dome (stopping within an inch of the target). Very impressive.
