Nice Dance , it is very close to World's Oldest Classical Dance ODISHI ( from India). Kalinga ( Odisha) had strong relationship with Bali so it might be influence form Odishi Dance. but there is some unique and nice art on it. We Odiya people love Bali and every year we celebrate 7 days Bali Festival in Cuttack City in Orissa to remember the old 2000 years of nice relationship with Kalinga and Bali.
@TanjongTiram Don’t forget your freedom struggle and role Biju Patnaik ( checke in Wikepedia )
He flew to Java and brought Sultan Sjahrir aboard from Java on 22 July 1947 by his own Dacota and reached India via Singapore on 24 July. For his act of bravery he was awarded 'Bhoomi Putra', the highest Indonesian award and a rare distinction ever granted to a foreigner.
@TanjongTiram Please check "Bali Jatra" in wikipedia you will know more ..

@shads24 I'm not Indian, but there are a lot of Indian people in my city, and I can see what you mean. I was thinking that even before I read your comment. I envy your opportunity to go to Bali.
Valentinromania I don't know where you have been in Bali. I'm going there since 3 years now every year and it's a wonderful place. And food speaking... I never ever had any issue even eating in the street

for your narrow-mindness, blindness like a bat, and plain stupidy - it could be you are the asshole - look at yourself first- you have no morals nor ethics - maybe you're Demonic !! What have they done to you Bigger Asshole ???
Ooo nice! I think that if you like this one than watch out for a new doc that should come out in 2009 called Bali - Sacred and Secret - I believe there's a website with that name
≈♥≈ I hv been to Bali 2 times, it's one of the most beautiful island in Indonesia...EXOTIC People, food & tradition. And the beaches...are just AWESOME!! I love Bali Music...its so alive & unique. It really wakes up my soul. :D
actually it doesnt strike me as being much like Indian classical dance at all. Much more like Thai dance. Indian steps are far more structured and precise, with complicated interactions with the thallum ( rythym). Kutchipudi and Odissi and Bharatanatyam look nothing like this. ( this dance is graceful.... but simpleand spontaneous) that said, it doesnt nullify its connections to Hinduism
Why is there always a big brouhaha whenever an Indian influence is suggested on the south-east asian cultures? we didn't build colonies there, we brought our culture, religion, music and dance to the people in those regions. The first kingship or dynasties in all these countries were founded by hindu princes from especially, eastern & southern India perhaps farther back in antiquity than currently presumed. So, u see Ramayana having a big cultural influence, but not Mahabharata. Ciao
Yeah, that's true. It resembles the temple dances very much. For example Kuchipudi. But there's also the substrate of the original Balinese culture which is very close to the Polynesian ones.
This is Cendrawasih Dance. Cendrawasih is a unique bird from Papua-Indonesia. This dance is cretaed by Mrs. Bandem (artist, the wife of Mr. Bandem, head of Bali Art Institute-Denpasar)
"Cendrawasih." What a wonderful dance about 2 birds in the spring forest. Thank you for sharing. it is so sad the way that our special and sacred spaces are now being invaided by greedy corporations and land grabbing developers. Don't let what has happended to Hawaii happen to Bali. See youtubes video "Discover kauai" Our tiny island of kauai is now fair game for all that is going wrong with our Planey Earth.
oh! I know that name of this dance! it's call "Cendrawasih" and it's about two birds frolicking at a spring in a forest- in fact, I had to perform that dance today at an ethnic festival. The red dress is really pretty, but i think it looks kind of stupid on me. I'm too short. Haha. When I did it, I was the second bird that came in.
I doing a project on the dance of bali and I don't really have many ideas of what the dances are or where they come from....is there anyone who has any thoughts to help me out!!! I would really appreciate it!!
