God I hope retire to a concrete bunker is what Richey did.. I can just imagine him sitting between a million teabags and a million eyeliners, waiting for the apocolypse..
There neithter is nor was a band quite like them, they did understand the petty, drab lives most of us lead. Thanks for this, from the Camus quote to the way they look it's stunning.
MSP completely resonate with me - from the literary connections which light up my eyes to the aura and symmetry. They do understand the drabnass and the ennui and I have been reactive against that for my whole life
Thank you for uploading this!I love how they are so passionate about the band, how much effort they put into their lyrics at a time when other bands sang about E s and baggy trousers!Hehe showing my age now:-D thanks this is ace! X

this one is great! thank you very much for uploaded it :) thank you, thank you, thank you! they're my favourite band and I think that interview is very cute...THANK YOU!
hi VioletsNight. thanx 4 the comment & your English is fine, i understood you perfectly. in answer to your question, what Nicky says at the end is...
"I just wanna have a number 1 album in America, and then retire to a big concerete bunker, like J.D. Salinger, and never be seen again so I could never let anybody down".
hope that helps VioletNights =) stay beautiful. xx
@guy. i also think Richey is the most beautiful man ever! & i mean EVER! he had a natural beauty & the beauty inside of him, poured out onto the outside as well. he wore his feelings on his sleeves which is also beautiful cause he was so expressive about his feelings & thoughts. & he was so damn smart which also made him very attractive too. i think Richey might have been too beautiful & too smart for this world. IDK? but i sure do miss him :( i hope he's happy wherever he may be.
@Muzikhead - the song is "Love's Sweet Exile". it's from the "Generation Terrorists" album by MSP.
(& BTW, the song towards the end of this clip is "You Love Us". also off GT by MSP)
and if you haven't seen the actual video for "Love's Sweet Exile", make sure to check it out!
it's one of my fave videos by them & Richey looks so hot in it too! & also, there's shots of Richey & Nicky getting quite flirty & sensual with one another. woot! <3 hot stuff <3
Great upload. The song at the end isnt off Generation Terrorists though, its the original version of You Love Us which the Manics released on Heavenly before they got a major deal. It was re released on the b side of Revol in 94 (ish).
And yes, I do feel like an internet pedant for that. :(
There was a rumour at the time that he'd had a breakdown before they went to tour America, and been quietly admitted to a private mental health clinic. Though if that were true, he'd presumably be better by now?
hi KerryPanda, you know, i heard that rumour too. i often wonder if perhaps Richey's family knew where he was (at least at some point in time - maybe even now?) & just decided to protect him & respect his privacy by not telling the public - knowing if the public found out, Richey's life would be even worse than how it was when (and why) he left in the first place.
It wasn't rumour, it was common knowledge he had a breakdown and was admitted to an NHS hospital and then a private clinic. Richey did an interview with the NME whilst in hospital. He was painfully gaunt and shaved his hair off. I remember as I bought the issue back then! The Manics did Glastonbury that summer without him.
It wasn't a rumour, it was common knowledge at the time that he had been admitted to a psychiatric NHS hospital and then a private one in summer 94. The band, including richey, openly talked about it. The NME did a photo shoot and interview with Richey in hospital - it was all part of the rock n roll!
This is too much.. I absolutely loved the manics' music for ages without ever reading a single thing about them, just happily listening to albums my dad would bring over here from the UK.. and now youtube is making me fall in love with them!
Hmm...you know at the end, where Nicky says something about releasing a number 1 album in america and then retiring to a concrete bunker, so he could never let anyone down? Well, I think that's where Richey got his idea of 'disappearing' from...
Well anything is possible xPenguinsGoRAWRx. I don't think you're being silly. You never know. I'm sure Richey is out there, somewhere.
Sometimes I wonder if he really is out there, if he knows just how much people miss him, think of him, and still adore and respect him. I hope he knows that he's not forgotton!
What freaks me out is that 2 days ago I saw this guy who looked SO much like Richey! I never saw this guy B4, so when I did see him, I couldn't stop staring, tho I was trying not to. I don't think it was really Richey, but I've never seen anyone that looked THAT much like him, so it kinda shocked me. The guy was gorgeous, of course, around the same height, same facial structure, super skinny in tight pants & a t-shirt & wearing pointy boots, like the kind Richey wore during GT. Really weird!
@velevt - I agree with you. The early Manics era was the best. Generation Terrorists is, handsdown, my favorite album of theirs! I think they sounded and looked the best during that time.
I know what you mean abbyaddictionx. When I heard them say "scratched", I thought, 'uhhhh, did you not hear about all the stitches it took to repair the cuts on his arm'?!
I seem to recall reading that Richey almost severed a major atery doing that!
"I just want somebody to love me." ...And then Nicky laughs and reminds him that he loves him. Richey circa Generation Terrorists is so beautiful and hopeful. I mean, he's still complains of boredom and isolation and he's still got scars on his arms, but he seems more light-hearted. He wanted fame...I guess he never suspected what it would drive him to. :(
From a kid to an adult i lived in a filthy, depressing hole called Willenhall in the West Midlands, beat that!wonder if this place was as bad as Blackwood. I've really been looking for someone like the Manics all my life.
Yes, he is :) ...and it's very fine because in latest interviews he's more sad and gloomy... I admire him sooo much! and I hope he is on some better place... :)
I agree in hoping Richey is in a better place - and have noticed too how the early interviews he does seem at times happy and spirited, (whihc is why the interview I have here of him w/ Nicky playing put-put is my fave, cause Richey seems like he's having fun and being playful) but as the years go by, you can see how much more sad and depressed he was getting.
"and never be seen again so I could never let anybody down".
That is such a Holden Caulfield thing to say.
