Eevry track is different, air temp also makes a difference, also driver of course.

I have a 335d (diesel) and run 13.5@105mph. I have beaten loads of E46 M3 and E39 M5 at the strip.

This is hard to believe. I know for a fact the 335i(not diesel) is faster than your 335d and the e39 M5 and e46 M3 are faster than your car. This has been proven. Maybe you have a fast car/good driver... but this is still hard to believe.

Your in dream land mate, ive run with m3's and m5's on the strip and beaten them. Its closer on the strip than the road. On the road a tuned 335d pulls a clean gap even to a modded e46 m3. Just ask my friend. He has a modded M3 and has run with me.

The 335d is no good for standing starts, better for rolling say 60mph-160mph.

Doesnt have the wonderful M diff etc.

If you would happily meet me in your M i will prove the tuned 335d is faster.

As much as I love M cars (I own a modified e36 M3 Evo - 13.6s qtr mile) I've raced a remapped 335d at Santa Pod and he beat me by .02 seconds. My friend can pull 13.2 in his modded e46 and he raced the same 335d and the times were the same. So yes the 335d are quick cars but you don't get the M bits or the sound

Putting up twin turbos against an free revving naturally aspirated straight 6 is completely and utterly pointless.

I own a 07 335i. No mods I walk on stock e46 m3's. With mods Ill be toe to toe with e90-e92 m3s. I promise you a non m 335i modded, will obliterate a 335d. rolling start or from a dig ill still dominate u. and as for stock vs stock... not even a contest

I've rolled with a couple E39s and it's usually pretty even, unless you happen to be a manual transmission god it's hard to make up for the advantage M3 SMG provides for in quicker shifts. Though with a better driver, assuming the M3 was a manual, the M5 should have killed it.

Either way, they both posted not so great times/bad reaction times. Well-M3 seemed to have launched a quicker but didn't gain traction-too much throttle. The driver of the E39 M5 seemed asleep at the start! Max is trying to point out that they are built to perform from the factory as opposed to lesser 3 series. Many of you are confusing the E60 M5 with the E39 M5. Did you not watch the video?V10 vs. V8 sound is quite different.

The driver of the M5 in this video has no idea what he is doing. You can clearly see that he doesn't get a good launch. The clown is probably driving with the DSP on.

I owned a 2001 M3 and now I drive a 2001 M5. Believe me, after 90mph the M5 will pull miles away from the M3. I switched to the M5 because with the M3 I had trouble beating mustang GTs and Chargers by a great distance. The M3 is a good car but the M5 has much more power especially at the top end.

I dont look at M3e46 as stock M3. You said stock but M3 E46 has lot more improvement than just a regular stock M3. So you saying stock M3 would beat stock M5 is not completely true. E46 is like ten grand more expansive cause it has better parts added to it than the stock M3. Anyways both cars are great, but yeah the new M5 is so improved from the older version

well e46 m3 is stock from factory. If you dont want e46 m3 , than you go one big level down to e46 330 Ci. I think both cars are great and it all depends what you want, a m5 with 4 door seden fast and comfy or m3 2 door more sport type looking.

Max, for your information e46 is the factory denomination for the body style, even a 318 is a E46 if it has the same body style. The started manufacturing the e46 around 1999 and the m3 came out in 2001. So,M3 have only on engine possible, the only improved M3 i know is the CSL,with aluminum parts and special flywheel plus more stuff.
