new poem Dead tears Buried behind your eyes Your hairs like leaves from a cemetery Absorb the moisture of whom Reply a lifetime in front of a picture Your heart your perpetual tomb You can meet them all over again Because they are all strangers now Admire the dream that created you Worship the nightmare that raised you
Gay clubs probably helped NIN become huge. This track was massive in Gay clubs in the early 1990's. Its not hard to see why. They helped spread the word.
Metal clubs would probably not go near this. Back in the day.

my dad used to listen to this CD really early in the morning when we'd go to work, so whenever i hear this stuff i think of being tired and overpowering smell of coffee lol
This is one of my favorite songs by NIN. I am just getting into them. I just used to listen ot Closer, now I love March of the Pigs, The Perfect Drug, this one, Last and And All that Could Have Been... They are amazing < 3
@518Viiper just because the rest of the world disagrees with your taste in music doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. they just like different music. would you say the same thing about someone who hated carrots when you love them?
if u dont let ur pain out in some form , ur more likely to commit suicide. i here it all the time,"they were happy and seemed to be content." thats what everyone that knows them said before the person killed themself. emotion is good, it helps u stay in touch with reality. otherwise u become a serial killer with only ur fucked up thoughts to guide u.
i believe that NIN's purpose in life is to help relieve most peoples pain, i mean thats gotta be the reason they always make such amazing fucking songs right? if its not, then whats the purpose of their music, i mean, before i even think about picking up my razorblade, i just listen to NIN and i leave the razor where it is. their music has helped me through alot in the past few months. and i've listend to them most of my life.
I am impressed with this song. I have started listening to this song 12 years ago, and I got into this ever since. I wish I have the CD, but I only have the cassette. But it's still one of the most impressive songs. I do agree that Trent Reznor is a genius, and his brilliance just gets better and better.
new poem Undress the star Like a razor caresses a vein Your screams fill the air Like a leaf shaken by the wind Fresh smell of blood Fresh lips unfed Your arms turning red like a sunset Their lips shaped like a raven diving into the sky Their rage tamed and dressed By your scar
Person talking shiz about Trent... this man is more in touch with his feelings than you are with your poor mangled genitals :P Thank you... that will be all LOL
By reading all of the comments, i infer that some idiot said something uncool about Trent. Trent Reznor is a fucking genious. That´s it. This person couldn´t be more ignorant.
I'm sick of every god damn Trent YouTube video I watch being shat up by music emo kids pretending to be rockers or rivetheads personifying how someone else is better or that trent just sucks. Yes nin is more hype then anything. But Trent is human & if he grew his hair back he would look human again (maybe?). Yes i hate Trent but i don't feel the need to comment this sucks like a pre adsolcent boy to every song I don't like that he made. Quite frankly he's more musically talented then any moron
who the hell comes to youtube, and trash talks the band theyre watching. no one said you had to watch it, and if u hate a band then why are you here? seriously grow up and save the trash comments for a forum. nin is the shit
arguably ( ok no .. but ill give doubt :) ) one of the greatest Industrial song ever written . seriously .. thats reznor best song IMO . this song is is everyway great , great lyric , deep , dark emotion and singing .this song doesnt lack a soul as many songs does . never been a big fan of NIN after Downward spiral . but this song remains totally the greatest of his work . it's in my top 10 songs ever .
My conscience, my pity, my hopes disappeared a long time ago if they ever did exist. I still, though, hold on to one single bleak truth: no one is safe, nothing is redeemed. Is evil something you are? Or is it something you do? . Evil is the only permanence.
Im simply imitating reality, the rough resemblance of a human being, with only a dim corner of my mind functioning. Something horrible is happening and yet I cant figure out why.
new poem Mirrors on fire My images are opaque Wings of razor I bleed each time I reach for the sky I turned the sky into stone The altar of my anguish The stars my bleeding wrists Under their dust I spread my wings This constant pain Is keeping me discolored
trent reznor isn't all that cool or great. he sold out and changed his style to shitty music (with teeth to the slip). but he did record a lot kick ass songs before that.
@johnroiberts I disagree. I think after he got through all the drug problems, he matured age-wise and creativity-wise. It's not that he sold out, I think he just got tired of making the same kind of music. But, while I enjoy the new NiN albums, the older ones will always be dear to me.
with teeth, year zero, the slip....the first two mentioned sounded like someone imitating nin. the slip just sounded like a garage band that discovered a moog
@connorgow I completely agree. It would be pretty pathetic and embarrassing to be 40+ years old and still be filled with so much angst. Vintage NIN was fitting for Trent in his twenties. The Fragile was also him evolving. I think it's important for artists to change, and if you take a second to think about it, all the great artists of our time welcomed change with open arms. After all, it would be more difficult to keep sounding one specific way album after album. Who would want to do that?
Free energy technology exists! But Millions are spend in supressing that information,Get a motor that needs no gas or electric input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Be the revolution!
NIN has NOTHING AT ALL to do with the aims of industrial bands that followed the lead of Throbbing Gristle. Actually, NIN, in essence, are aiming for the OPPOSITE in subverting the "industrial sound". "True industrial bands" say: "ok, let's blow this music culture a new arsehole with this here jackhammer white-funk". Trent says "ok, let's project my own self-hatred and sickliness onto the kids with this here slick machine-disco and emotive content". Totally opposite, most can't see it, though.
@blacknganga to be honest, i totally agree. you never hear sasha or ogre bitch about their ex for an entire album... for them its more like fuck the government, religion, and society [not entirely, but mostly]
@04tm34l3 Interestingly, I'm pretty sure Trent has never actually claimed his music to be industrial. Never the less, taking responsibility for bringing industrial music to mainstream isn't a bad accomplishment to be known for.
@bopptb eh... i have heard that trent had alot of trouble with labels, which i guess could mean the change in his sound. but, i find that any band that goes mainstream is pretty disgraceful
@04tm34l3 Who proclaims to be "industrial"?... I love about 15 depeche mode tunes, they are straight up legends; although at times (other tracks) seriously lacked taste, eg. the first album, and several other albums. I think Gore was the brains, but not to deny the balls of Gahan. Isn't it funny that musicians would say "oh, we're an industrial band"! hahahaha
@blacknganga for the most part you're totally right they're goths lol pussies they're all sad, but there are people who appreciate it and aren't little faggy emo/goths i'm one of them
@deanguitars15 Reznor is just one of tens of thousands of electronic producers worldwide... Albeit one with massive American advertising/marketing machinery plugging his wares... he's not a standout talent amongst the world pool of talent... he just appeals to lost children/girls who are looking for emotive content in music... Tool do the same thing. Fine, listen to Reznor, just don't advertise the fact, 'cause people like myself who know a bit about music will be able to look straight thru you.
What the hell do you know? You live in Australia, the world's sausage fest capital! What is it like 7 dongs for every 1 taco? I grew up in the US and was exposed to NIN while growing up just as I was exposed to comparable bands like Skinny Puppy and NIN >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Skinny Puppy. If you actually listened to NIN you would know they have some really amazing songs. I'll admit that there are some not so great songs, but NIN does have a at least a few dozen great songs.
@Ikoris Trent Reznor suffered a botched circumcision, and his mother bottle fed him with the wrong formula. He was badly beaten at school for his tepid will-power, causing bed wetting and acne into his late teens. When he finally got laid, his anus wouldn't heal up for about 13 years after. To top it off, he had his collection of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Kiss records stolen from his flat in his early twenties, so he had to move on to "harder Stuff" , like leather. So we can't blame the guy.
@blacknganga now idk why you hate NIN but if you hate them then ok you can do that but dont criticize fans that love them ok stick to the music you like and we will stick to the music that we love
@NWOWCW4Life1 I'm trying to lovingly teach the fans of NIN about the art of developing "taste". Trent doesn't need taste as he drives down to the resort in his hummer, wearing the latest G-Star cuts his fashion publicist sent him.
@blacknganga my good sir, you know nothing of taste. going around to the videos of artists you don't particularly like and posting about how they must logically be horrible simply because they don't fit your own tastes shows a significant lack thereof.
@NWOWCW4Life1 I don't even know why people bother going to other bands videos to criticize them. Just stay with what you like and leave the other people their own music, so much fun that way!
@Glamdring81 Tool and Nin were invented to 1. Make shitloads of dough out a sickly music marketplace; 2. Project Keenans and Reznors self-loathing and contempt for everything out into the various popular culture medias. Keenan is really trying to give the now corpse-like body of the once-great American music culture one last butt-fuck at the expense of the kids. As Iggy would ask: where is the love? What do all Tool fans have in common? A:They are largely ignorant of relatively great music.
@blacknganga he's a good lyricist, and he does more than just electronic stuff, and there's no need to disrespect me man i never disrespected you so get some respect or get the fuck out of here, i myself am a musician an open minded one that appreciates all music not some close minded douche who being so has no chance of ever being and enlightened musician
Thats ok we need more sad bitter fucks on youtube ranting and raving and labeling and personifying everything in there path because nobody hugged them. That is why blacknganga exists.
@deanguitars15 Yeah right, hand over your dollars, fool, rock died with the Buttholes, Nirvana, etc, Trent is a total tool of Emo kids. $ in his eyes, and you believe all that pap he sings, you are also a bibble.
@blacknganga geez wuts ur beef with nin? he's better than that rap and pop bullshit they play now. Ps. to those music managers, they're $, and to the singers ur $. Rock is still alive. it hasn't died
@OneNationUnderMe Trent, Maynard = pretenders, for the not too smart. i like nin t-shirts, however; it lets me know: uh oh, there goes another fool, tool or whatever, don't go near them if it can be avoided.
@blacknganga woah, chill out. i was just askin what u didn't like about them. no need to get all offensive. to be honest T-shirts is all NIN does now since NIN is over. If people like somethin they should get a t-shirt about it. look at justin beiber, he sells more t-shirts than ablums. He's no fake he just sucks
@blacknganga What do you like then??? Most of the artist have to sell in order to survive in the music bussines. Name me one artist that Trent and Maynard didn´t fucked up their music stlyle just to sell like others did. .
@Rejito Of course it's all a matter of degree... Iggy Pop, Frank Zappa, The Turtles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Fugs, GG Allin, Faith No More all went in the other direction. Basically, many of the original 70's American artists remained pure, or (like The Turtles) commercially sabotaged their music in the name of art. Keenan and Reznor (and the once decent Manson (Marilyn, not Charles)) are obviously highly opportunistic and indeed parasitic on "the industry" turning out shit.
@blacknganga I didn´t explained myself correctly. By "fucking up their style just to sell", i meant turning pop or comercial. I think every artist should evolve. Judging how good or bad is their evolution depends on the listener´s taste in music. Sorry, I still don´t get your point. So you think reznor and keenan succed because the music industry was crap in the 90´s and they took advantage of it? Or you think they became parasitic on the industry and they still get some profit out of it?
@Rejito Both examples you say, although I'd say underground music was still good, the local scenes, hip hop, dance music, hippy-tribal music, the local punks and metallers. Big rock was, generally speaking dead in the arse in the nineties, and I don't see anything exceptional in these two bands in particular, even though they both found mega success.
@blacknganga Really, do you think that? How old are u? I don´t think big rock was dead in the arse of the nineties. I think metal and rock were still promoted in those days. Remember mtv´s "headbangers" ? Take Panetra, Sepultura and Meshuggah for example. What you said, in my opinion is happening today , the underground msuic is good but big rock is dead. I guess if you don´t see anything exceptional in these two bands it´s cuz you don´t like their music, everyone has different tastes.
@blacknganga How old are u? I don´t think big rock was dead in the arse of the nineties.it killed the 80´s glam. I think metal and rock were still promoted in those days. Remember mtv´s "headbangers" ? Take Panetra, Sepultura and Meshuggah for example. And please Duran´s goood but =Nietzsche's ideal of the "wild-Germanic-supermen?? Yeahh right...(lol) , Cuz Duran and Wagner are very similar(lol). I think maybe you´re from a different generation. But it´s ok to put out your point of view.
@Rejito Old enough to know the great bands of the sixties but young enough to know that almost all commercially viable mainstream "rock" is douche mouthwash. Tool, NIN are bands who grew far to big by comparison to their actual substance. Lots of filler on albums, heavy on the emotive content for circumsized boys and non-breastfed girls, raised on a diet of second hand cigarette smoke, mars bars and republican propaganda. I don't mind telling kids their tastes are douche.
@blacknganga Get over it. And you can't generalize a population...well, you can. But you end up looking like the douche : ) Your tastes seem pretty douchey to me, you nostalgic fuck
@Shadowsofheartagram Leave old bands in the past. I'm not nostalgic, you cunt. I haven't listened to old music for years, too busy listening to new music of every concievable sort. I'm not hypnotised by a handful of bands like most kids are today. Now there is nostalgia. If you are a fan of NIN then YOU are being nostalgic for embracing "the last white hope" , an emo eighties train wreck. News flash: emotionally deprived children smoke and listen to tool and nin. Tell me something I don't know!
@blacknganga Leave old bands in the past? O_o You know, we're entitled to like what we want. You're the one smearing your bullshit on this page. And what is this about me holding onto a glimmer of hope? xD Christ, I love Nine Inch Nails, but I'm not trying to live in the 90's, still. Trent Reznor could've been born 20 years later, and possibly his influences would've been different...but that doesn't change the fact that he would write awsome music.
@blacknganga You said there wasn´t any rock back then, so listening nin was the kid´s salvation right? But there was A LOT of rock during the 90´s. What about Pantera,Sepultura, Meshugga, Primus, Alice in Chains(for example)? Didn´t hear em or you also don´t like em? I´m a douche girl (like you say)..I love the 90´s music. IguessYou´re some corny guy hoping for the next duran. I enjoy how you rant jajaaj. You´re like an 8 year old. All of your arguments are not based on the music itself.
@Rejito Yeah ok, there were good "rock" bands (read: metal leaning). Faith No More, Rage, and others. Obviously the industry didn't just drop dead in 1990! When I say "rock died", I don't mean "every band that was influenced by the rock bands of the past no longer mattered, I really mean to say: Metallers who embrace punk can be considered "rockers", but much of the nineties popular music isn't about being a rocker. Is Mike Patton a "rocker"?; maynard James Vinyard Keenan is NOT a rocker.
@Rejito Rob Zombie, now he's a rocker, like Manson is (back when he was reasonable). GG Allin, now we are starting to see someone genuinely pushing rock boundaries. Sepultura were psychedelic, Pantera bogans, Metallica metal up their arse, Rage Against, too political, Faith No More, like the other Metallers can't really be considered as "rockers". Meshuggah is too underground to even be mentioned for these purposes. All those phony "rock revivalists": white stripes, black rebels, strokes...
@blacknganga I'm not sure where the fear of "commercially viable" came from...that's their JOBS, musicians are artists of course, but as the saying goes "you need money to survive"...It's not really like Trent or Tool are out there hocking Subaru's or stopping their shows to say "drink pepsi"...they play what they play, and yeah, radio picks it up because a lot of people like it. But this idea that fame=selling out just seems pointless to me, don't we ALL want to be successful at what we do?
@ZarathustrasCrown It's music that's just rather meaningless, that's all. Some people are effortlessly entertained. Tool do have some good tracks in their "package".
@blacknganga I'm curious (honestly, I'm not being facetious here), what specific objective quality to music does it need in order to be considered "meaningful" as opposed to "meaningless"? It would seem to me that meaning is something we the listener instil into the music. The emotions it elicits in us is often built around periods we were exposed to it, if we first heard a song during a breakup, it may be sappy but it MEANS something to us because we associate it with that emotion.
@ZarathustrasCrown Ok, I'll be more honest (with myself): NIN and Tool, I believe, are for the physically and emotionally WEAK and the maimed, sickly tepid shit.
@blacknganga OK, and that's cool...we're all entitled to our own views on music, but when you put it in an objective context like that it changes things a bit...what about Tool's music (for example) is catered to weak, maimed people? I understand you feel that way, and you totally have that right...I'm just trying to understand the base reason you view them in that way, what about Tool's music makes it more weak or maimed than, say, Meshugga or Pantera?
@Rejito By the way, Duranduran really are not that important to me, as compared to all of the other great music in the world. Trent Reznor may be great, but he's not a particularly great musician, just one of thousands of musicians/producers the world over. Trent baby just did a business course and fucked a few fashionistas and decided to get his American-business-at-all-costs thing on. Look at him now his limp lyricism has shat it's gaskets; he's nothing else to do but beef up and spurt morals
@blacknganga Tell me something...why are you commenting on this song, if you don't even like it? You already knew NIN existed, and clearly have already listened to Trent's music. So why would you bother? I don't understand. Seems rather pointless, in my opinion. Seems to me you're looking for an outlet to vent, and looking for a rise out of someone. Well, you've clearly achieved your goal, and... you just seem like a tape worm, or worse
@blacknganga Some how just 1 of all your comments got to me. When you write more than 1 only the last one gets to your mail. Now i´ve read em all. I said metal and rock in my first comment by the way. Anyways, thanks for answering my questions.I could keep on asking and you`d probably answer, but we just have different points of view, and you also use some slang i don´t get (since english is my second language). Good night and good luck.
@blacknganga Pretenders to what is my question? I mean, don't get me wrong, Nails isn't for everyone, what band is? But I'm unsure what you mean by pretenders...what are they pretending?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Trent should have gotten some exercise earlier in life, gotten some sunlight and gone vegetarian, to have saved the world from his puritanical self-loathing; music for junkie-white children
@ThePowerOfMusik Depeche Mode started "The Problem" by pumping out shit tune upon shit tune in the early eighties, unlike Duran, who perfectly summed-up Nietzsche's ideal of the "wild-Germanic-supermen". Don't get me wrong, D.Mode wrote some killer tunes, but at least a couple of albums worth of PURE SHIT were involved in their output (read: Speak and Spell). Reznor obviously built upon D. Mode's appropriation of "industrial sounds" with emotive content, but MY GOD does it lack taste.
To think I was only a year old when this song came out.

if u dont let ur pain out in some form , ur more likely to commit suicide. i here it all the time,"they were happy and seemed to be content." thats what everyone that knows them said before the person killed themself. emotion is good, it helps u stay in touch with reality. otherwise u become a serial killer with only ur fucked up thoughts to guide u.
masashake86 10 months ago
i believe that NIN's purpose in life is to help relieve most peoples pain, i mean thats gotta be the reason they always make such amazing fucking songs right? if its not, then whats the purpose of their music, i mean, before i even think about picking up my razorblade, i just listen to NIN and i leave the razor where it is. their music has helped me through alot in the past few months. and i've listend to them most of my life.

I am impressed with this song. I have started listening to this song 12 years ago, and I got into this ever since. I wish I have the CD, but I only have the cassette. But it's still one of the most impressive songs. I do agree that Trent Reznor is a genius, and his brilliance just gets better and better.

Quite frankly he's more musically talented then any moron

arguably ( ok no .. but ill give doubt :) ) one of the greatest Industrial song ever written . seriously .. thats reznor best song IMO . this song is is everyway great , great lyric , deep , dark emotion and singing .this song doesnt lack a soul as many songs does . never been a big fan of NIN after Downward spiral . but this song remains totally the greatest of his work . it's in my top 10 songs ever .

I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.

@buuski
cuz the music sounded a lot like pop
johnroiberts 1 year ago
@johnroiberts I disagree. I think after he got through all the drug problems, he matured age-wise and creativity-wise. It's not that he sold out, I think he just got tired of making the same kind of music. But, while I enjoy the new NiN albums, the older ones will always be dear to me.
connorgow 1 year ago
@connorgow
with teeth, year zero, the slip....the first two mentioned sounded like someone imitating nin. the slip just sounded like a garage band that discovered a moog
johnroiberts 1 year ago
@connorgow I completely agree. It would be pretty pathetic and embarrassing to be 40+ years old and still be filled with so much angst. Vintage NIN was fitting for Trent in his twenties. The Fragile was also him evolving. I think it's important for artists to change, and if you take a second to think about it, all the great artists of our time welcomed change with open arms. After all, it would be more difficult to keep sounding one specific way album after album. Who would want to do that?

NIN has NOTHING AT ALL to do with the aims of industrial bands that followed the lead of Throbbing Gristle. Actually, NIN, in essence, are aiming for the OPPOSITE in subverting the "industrial sound". "True industrial bands" say: "ok, let's blow this music culture a new arsehole with this here jackhammer white-funk". Trent says "ok, let's project my own self-hatred and sickliness onto the kids with this here slick machine-disco and emotive content". Totally opposite, most can't see it, though.
blacknganga 1 year ago
@blacknganga to be honest, i totally agree. you never hear sasha or ogre bitch about their ex for an entire album... for them its more like fuck the government, religion, and society [not entirely, but mostly]

@04tm34l3 Oh who was it that spent an album bitching about the ex? Depeche or Trent? Do tell!?
blacknganga 1 year ago
@blacknganga both... but depeche isnt self proclaimed 'industrial' or 'industrial rock' that more like synthpop
04tm34l3 1 year ago
@04tm34l3 Interestingly, I'm pretty sure Trent has never actually claimed his music to be industrial. Never the less, taking responsibility for bringing industrial music to mainstream isn't a bad accomplishment to be known for.
bopptb 1 year ago
@bopptb eh... i have heard that trent had alot of trouble with labels, which i guess could mean the change in his sound. but, i find that any band that goes mainstream is pretty disgraceful
04tm34l3 1 year ago
@04tm34l3 Who proclaims to be "industrial"?... I love about 15 depeche mode tunes, they are straight up legends; although at times (other tracks) seriously lacked taste, eg. the first album, and several other albums. I think Gore was the brains, but not to deny the balls of Gahan. Isn't it funny that musicians would say "oh, we're an industrial band"! hahahaha
blacknganga 1 year ago

If you actually listened to NIN you would know they have some really amazing songs. I'll admit that there are some not so great songs, but NIN does have a at least a few dozen great songs.
Ikoris 11 months ago
@Ikoris Trent Reznor suffered a botched circumcision, and his mother bottle fed him with the wrong formula. He was badly beaten at school for his tepid will-power, causing bed wetting and acne into his late teens. When he finally got laid, his anus wouldn't heal up for about 13 years after. To top it off, he had his collection of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Kiss records stolen from his flat in his early twenties, so he had to move on to "harder Stuff" , like leather. So we can't blame the guy.

Glamdring81 11 months ago
@Glamdring81 Tool and Nin were invented to 1. Make shitloads of dough out a sickly music marketplace; 2. Project Keenans and Reznors self-loathing and contempt for everything out into the various popular culture medias. Keenan is really trying to give the now corpse-like body of the once-great American music culture one last butt-fuck at the expense of the kids. As Iggy would ask: where is the love? What do all Tool fans have in common? A:They are largely ignorant of relatively great music.

blacknganga 7 months ago
@blacknganga What do you like then??? Most of the artist have to sell in order to survive in the music bussines. Name me one artist that Trent and Maynard didn´t fucked up their music stlyle just to sell like others did. .
Rejito 7 months ago
@Rejito Of course it's all a matter of degree... Iggy Pop, Frank Zappa, The Turtles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Fugs, GG Allin, Faith No More all went in the other direction. Basically, many of the original 70's American artists remained pure, or (like The Turtles) commercially sabotaged their music in the name of art. Keenan and Reznor (and the once decent Manson (Marilyn, not Charles)) are obviously highly opportunistic and indeed parasitic on "the industry" turning out shit.
blacknganga 7 months ago
@blacknganga I didn´t explained myself correctly. By "fucking up their style just to sell", i meant turning pop or comercial. I think every artist should evolve. Judging how good or bad is their evolution depends on the listener´s taste in music. Sorry, I still don´t get your point. So you think reznor and keenan succed because the music industry was crap in the 90´s and they took advantage of it? Or you think they became parasitic on the industry and they still get some profit out of it?
Rejito 7 months ago
@Rejito Both examples you say, although I'd say underground music was still good, the local scenes, hip hop, dance music, hippy-tribal music, the local punks and metallers. Big rock was, generally speaking dead in the arse in the nineties, and I don't see anything exceptional in these two bands in particular, even though they both found mega success.
blacknganga 7 months ago
@blacknganga Really, do you think that? How old are u? I don´t think big rock was dead in the arse of the nineties. I think metal and rock were still promoted in those days. Remember mtv´s "headbangers" ? Take Panetra, Sepultura and Meshuggah for example. What you said, in my opinion is happening today , the underground msuic is good but big rock is dead. I guess if you don´t see anything exceptional in these two bands it´s cuz you don´t like their music, everyone has different tastes.
Rejito 7 months ago
@blacknganga How old are u? I don´t think big rock was dead in the arse of the nineties.it killed the 80´s glam. I think metal and rock were still promoted in those days. Remember mtv´s "headbangers" ? Take Panetra, Sepultura and Meshuggah for example. And please Duran´s goood but =Nietzsche's ideal of the "wild-Germanic-supermen?? Yeahh right...(lol) , Cuz Duran and Wagner are very similar(lol). I think maybe you´re from a different generation. But it´s ok to put out your point of view.
Rejito 7 months ago
@Rejito Old enough to know the great bands of the sixties but young enough to know that almost all commercially viable mainstream "rock" is douche mouthwash. Tool, NIN are bands who grew far to big by comparison to their actual substance. Lots of filler on albums, heavy on the emotive content for circumsized boys and non-breastfed girls, raised on a diet of second hand cigarette smoke, mars bars and republican propaganda. I don't mind telling kids their tastes are douche.
blacknganga 7 months ago
@blacknganga Get over it. And you can't generalize a population...well, you can. But you end up looking like the douche : ) Your tastes seem pretty douchey to me, you nostalgic fuck
Shadowsofheartagram 6 months ago
@Shadowsofheartagram Leave old bands in the past. I'm not nostalgic, you cunt. I haven't listened to old music for years, too busy listening to new music of every concievable sort. I'm not hypnotised by a handful of bands like most kids are today. Now there is nostalgia. If you are a fan of NIN then YOU are being nostalgic for embracing "the last white hope" , an emo eighties train wreck. News flash: emotionally deprived children smoke and listen to tool and nin. Tell me something I don't know!
blacknganga 6 months ago
@blacknganga Leave old bands in the past? O_o You know, we're entitled to like what we want. You're the one smearing your bullshit on this page. And what is this about me holding onto a glimmer of hope? xD Christ, I love Nine Inch Nails, but I'm not trying to live in the 90's, still. Trent Reznor could've been born 20 years later, and possibly his influences would've been different...but that doesn't change the fact that he would write awsome music.
Shadowsofheartagram 6 months ago
@blacknganga You said there wasn´t any rock back then, so listening nin was the kid´s salvation right? But there was A LOT of rock during the 90´s. What about Pantera,Sepultura, Meshugga, Primus, Alice in Chains(for example)? Didn´t hear em or you also don´t like em? I´m a douche girl (like you say)..I love the 90´s music. IguessYou´re some corny guy hoping for the next duran. I enjoy how you rant jajaaj. You´re like an 8 year old. All of your arguments are not based on the music itself.
Rejito 6 months ago
@Rejito I do like Meshugga and Sepultura, very underground, however.
blacknganga 6 months ago
@Rejito Yeah ok, there were good "rock" bands (read: metal leaning). Faith No More, Rage, and others. Obviously the industry didn't just drop dead in 1990! When I say "rock died", I don't mean "every band that was influenced by the rock bands of the past no longer mattered, I really mean to say: Metallers who embrace punk can be considered "rockers", but much of the nineties popular music isn't about being a rocker. Is Mike Patton a "rocker"?; maynard James Vinyard Keenan is NOT a rocker.
blacknganga 6 months ago
@Rejito Rob Zombie, now he's a rocker, like Manson is (back when he was reasonable). GG Allin, now we are starting to see someone genuinely pushing rock boundaries. Sepultura were psychedelic, Pantera bogans, Metallica metal up their arse, Rage Against, too political, Faith No More, like the other Metallers can't really be considered as "rockers". Meshuggah is too underground to even be mentioned for these purposes. All those phony "rock revivalists": white stripes, black rebels, strokes...
blacknganga 6 months ago
@blacknganga I'm not sure where the fear of "commercially viable" came from...that's their JOBS, musicians are artists of course, but as the saying goes "you need money to survive"...It's not really like Trent or Tool are out there hocking Subaru's or stopping their shows to say "drink pepsi"...they play what they play, and yeah, radio picks it up because a lot of people like it. But this idea that fame=selling out just seems pointless to me, don't we ALL want to be successful at what we do?
ZarathustrasCrown 6 months ago
@ZarathustrasCrown It's music that's just rather meaningless, that's all. Some people are effortlessly entertained. Tool do have some good tracks in their "package".
blacknganga 6 months ago
@blacknganga I'm curious (honestly, I'm not being facetious here), what specific objective quality to music does it need in order to be considered "meaningful" as opposed to "meaningless"? It would seem to me that meaning is something we the listener instil into the music. The emotions it elicits in us is often built around periods we were exposed to it, if we first heard a song during a breakup, it may be sappy but it MEANS something to us because we associate it with that emotion.
ZarathustrasCrown 6 months ago
@ZarathustrasCrown Ok, I'll be more honest (with myself): NIN and Tool, I believe, are for the physically and emotionally WEAK and the maimed, sickly tepid shit.
blacknganga 6 months ago
@blacknganga OK, and that's cool...we're all entitled to our own views on music, but when you put it in an objective context like that it changes things a bit...what about Tool's music (for example) is catered to weak, maimed people? I understand you feel that way, and you totally have that right...I'm just trying to understand the base reason you view them in that way, what about Tool's music makes it more weak or maimed than, say, Meshugga or Pantera?
ZarathustrasCrown 6 months ago
@Rejito By the way, Duranduran really are not that important to me, as compared to all of the other great music in the world. Trent Reznor may be great, but he's not a particularly great musician, just one of thousands of musicians/producers the world over. Trent baby just did a business course and fucked a few fashionistas and decided to get his American-business-at-all-costs thing on. Look at him now his limp lyricism has shat it's gaskets; he's nothing else to do but beef up and spurt morals
blacknganga 6 months ago
@blacknganga Tell me something...why are you commenting on this song, if you don't even like it? You already knew NIN existed, and clearly have already listened to Trent's music. So why would you bother? I don't understand. Seems rather pointless, in my opinion. Seems to me you're looking for an outlet to vent, and looking for a rise out of someone. Well, you've clearly achieved your goal, and... you just seem like a tape worm, or worse
