The power of speech and its complexity makes for a more sensational and inspiring movie than screwing with someone's dreams. Not that inception was bad, not at all, but this is a little more powerful.
Example, as shown in the movie, Hitler was able to control his entire country using words. He knew exactly what to say.

I saw "The King's Speech" and for me,I think the only award this movie should have won is the Best Supporting Actor (Geoffrey Rush) for his amazing performance...! The winner of Best Picture and Best Director should be Black Swan,the winner of Best Actor should've been either Bardem or Franco and the winner of Original Screenplay should've been Inception!!!
I absolutely loved this film. Your average movie goer might not appreciate the subtlety and pace of the show, but for those refined critics it will definitely have all the qualities you enjoy. A great cast, superb historical accuracy (despite what some people think) gripping score; and intriguing dialogue... How the King overcame his difficulties in speaking at the exact moment when his country and people needed him is extraordinary! I highly recommend this movie.
If he'd lived earlier he wouldn't have been recorded in the first place and it wouldn't have mattered if he stuttered (so much) and if he'd lived later they could have re-edited his speeches and it wouldn't have matttered so much. Just a shame he was born at the wrong time with a stutter. Lucky he met Lionel.
Helena and Geoffrey should have won Best Supporting Actor/Actress! They did an amazing job!
But I'm so glad that Colin Firth won Best Actor and this film won Best Picture! It's an inspirational story and Colin played Bertie really well!
Apparently, Queen Elizabeth was really impressed with the film and really moved by Colin's performance of her father! And that's the best praise you can get! <3

Pure awesomeness, not only did this film have its share of funny and touching moments, it is also one of the few truly few good movies of the last decade and i say, what is wrong with a feel good movie?
Think about what it tells us about our audiences throughout the world, when the subject matter of the latest biggest film success is a man's speech impediment!? A bit sad I reckon. But then again; I've long given up on great decent movies being made anymore - it doesn't take much to captivate the minds of millions whose attention span is usually no longer than the average TV commercial!
Because there are still a few of us who are not like sheep and have minds of our own who do not fall into the trap of believing that something is so great simply because the media and hype tells us it is! Thankfully there are still a few of us who have 'independent' thinking ability! : - )

Pure awesomeness, not only did this film have its share of funny and touching moments, it is also one of the few truly few good movies of the last decade and i say, what is wrong with a feel good movie?

Think about what it tells us about our audiences throughout the world, when the subject matter of the latest biggest film success is a man's speech impediment!? A bit sad I reckon. But then again; I've long given up on great decent movies being made anymore - it doesn't take much to captivate the minds of millions whose attention span is usually no longer than the average TV commercial!

Because there are still a few of us who are not like sheep and have minds of our own who do not fall into the trap of believing that something is so great simply because the media and hype tells us it is! Thankfully there are still a few of us who have 'independent' thinking ability! : - )

@ilovecollecting you're right to say that too many people allow their opinions to be manipulated by the media but this film is a good film. just because you don't allow the media to manipulate your opinions doesn't mean that you always know what you're talking about so get off your high horse 'cause you're really irritating. This film was very good and the cast was excellent. If you can't see that then you have bad taste.

If you don't like it fine, I don't have a problem with the 6 dislikes. They can't help it if they didn't enjoy the film.

@ilovecollecting no, me finding the movie good doesn't make it good, but it got excellent reviews, it's been nominated for oscars (which I know doesn't always mean much but even so). Just face it, this is a well made movie which is superbly acted out by its cast. you don't have to like it but don't call people who do like it idiots who only like it because the media tells them to because that is just vanity. As if people could only disagree with you because they've been manipulated.
