Wow.. that's totally worth spending 4 years in undergraduate school, plus another 3 years in graduate school... 30k for undegraduate + 100k for grad school to make 45k? LAAAAAAME!
I am a board certified Physician Assistant. I am interested in Physical Therapy. If I do go back to school now; tuition debt will be more than $100000 easily. Is it really worth it?
@loveorangerose999 Nope, it's really not... lol I'm in PT school now and the education is just as hard if not more strenuous than your PA education was... WHICH YOU DON'T EVEN BELIEVE because PA school in one year is 80% of the basic science of traditional medical school! A DPT is a three year commitment... and it feels like an eternity. lol Just work in an ortho clinic if you are interested in the musculoskeletal systems, or work for a DO instead of an MD.
xsanches- yes and no. Many therapist without the DPT degree do not feel that we should be called Dr. But many PTs with the DPT believe that we have earned the right. So to answer your question. I've seen that slowly, more and more PTs are using the title of Dr. If chiros, podiatrist, and dentist do- why not PTs.
@xsanchezx04 If you have a Doctor of Physical Therapy you are referred to as Dr. if you would like. Most older therapists have their Masters in PT so they just go by their first name... I like being called Dr. since I put in 7 years of college to acquire the title, but you will find that PT as a profession is primarily a first name basis.
@occuther the starting salary has gone up a lot recently. probably when this guy was starting out that's what he was making, but even over the past 5 years it has gone up a lot.
I'm a new grad PTA in Florida and I make 23 an hour. 2 years to complete my degree. And PT is not a vocational job......you need either an associates for PTA or at the very least a masters for PT. Several schools are now at the doctorate level for PT.
@Tachy11985 I live in Florida as well and I just finished completing my pre-requisites for the PTA program, however, now I'm considering becoming a PT instead. The reason I didn't want to become a PT was because I didn't want to give injections or take blood or anything like that because I get really squeamish with that sort of thing and I thought that maybe the PT had to deal with things of that nature. Do either the PT or the PTA have to do anything like that? Also, do you work in a hospital?
honestly, I am an occupational therapist and we make around the same or slightly less then physical therapists but there is so much hard education to do physical therapy and the work itself is very taxing so i would defintely recommend O.T. over P.T.
@kevinharriet12 Physical therapist is a vocational job only requiring 18 months to complete, not 6 years. That being said, some places might require specialized training, but definitely not 6 years.
@SanitysDemise Not true at all. To become a Physical Therapist ASSISTANT it can take a year to 2 because you need your associates degree, but some certified trainers get jobs as assistants too. Physical therapist REQUIRE a masters degree which can take 5-6 years to complete depending on your college. Also they start at 45K, but after years of experience it's not odd to see a physical therapist making 100k+. Do 10 minutes of research and you would know this.
I live in sarasota Fl. Born here I was talking to my wife about us both going to school for this mabe massage therapist allso. I think we could even start our own business. There is a lot of elderly here I'm a CNA rite now
