Wow, what happened? Your other stuff is pretty good but this one is absolutely bs. If I'm ever attacked, I just hope it's that guy behind you. Fake as an original Batman fight scene.
That......IS NOT a real bear hug. Try the same move with a real one ,normally they will bear hug you to restrain your arms, hence they will wrap you alot lower down like around your elbows. Again, now try your move
@dobberdoss just do a different move dont ya; admittedly bear hugs usually will need a strike involved in the defence. hard as hell getting out of a bearhug using JUST movement.
in aikido, as in other martial art, the first thing you learn is how to fall, that kind of movement might be dangerous or painful if you don´t know how to fall, that way that guy is sure that he´s not gonna be hurt in that technique
Wrong, Wrong Wrong. With this technique there is no need to ukemi. This was just some exercise for demonstration purposes. A real executed attach with resistance would never look like that and natural body reactions from the attacker would be very different. Actually this technique would be very difficult to use in a real self defense situation. The attacker would not be hurt really.
i did some practice on these technics and i may agree and disagree with you aswell.
i agree about the fact that an opponent will "maybe" react differently and it won't hurt that much if it falls down.
i disagree about this thecnic is difficult to use. it's easy, fast and works, no matter if he falls down hurting or not, or if he won't fall. you will be free from his hug and that's enough. actually the only and the main thing you wanted know.
Your onto the trickery of aikido. It's all about training your uke. Unfortunately, you won't find any uke's on the street which can work for you OR against you. He rolls because he is taught to roll making the technique look great, but like you say, hardly realistic is it!
@dobberdoss You don't roll to make a technique to look flashy. The reason for rolling in Aikido is to break the fall damage so you don't get hurt. If a technique is done on an uke who wasn't trained to roll then it would hurt them a LOT more.
The technique won't work full stop BECAUSE you have trained your uke to play a part in the technique itself (aikido's biggest draw back), by not letting go, by not again changing his stance, by hugging way higher than normal. Dude< Ive done aikido and your not fooling anyone
here: "If a technique is done on an uke who wasn't trained to roll then it would hurt them a LOT more." You "imply" it works and even tried to validate it. Dude, just admit it. Aikido is for the movies
@DeRandomSpamm not meaning to start an argument, and nothing against rolls, i use em all the time theyre a great technique to have at your disposal, however the absorbtion a roll would take from a technique really isnt anything extra than just falling and breakfalling in a jujitsu/do fashion. if on the street someone happens to push you off balance so you can roll, then by all means roll away. rather roll than fall down, but for damage absorbtion its really not that useful
The bear hug is to high. i want to see self defense vs a lower bear hug.

@BladeKempMusic ,
Particularly if your attacker arches you back at the same time making the bear hug.

lulz yeah, this dont work. A real attacker would just fall at his feet and lay there exposed to retaliation.
Seriously, when you lose your balance the game is over. There is no point in trying to hold on and collapse; roll away and try again.
