I really like Maria Ewing's voice and how she presents herself on stage. I love how amazing Bizet's music is, and particularly this song; the music is very interesting to listen to and kind of makes you feel like you're in 19th-century Spain.
why do they always slow this tempo down? one of the things that makes this piece exciting, as well as challenging, is that it is fast.. other than that, Ewing is fabulous and so is the orchestra.
The tempo may be a BIT on the slow side but it is meant to start slow. The opening of the act is Andante and the tempo does not speed up until the second verse, which is exactly what Mehta does here. There is another tempo change later and then a presto at the end but the piece is supposed to start slow.
This is a 1991 production, staged by Nuria Espert (although she is not responsible for the flamenco choreography). The flamenco dancer is Juan Ortega.
Magnifique!

The best carmen ever. I like her very much because her strenght comes from the very inside. She is so powerful, brava María.

Flamenco is one of the most beautiful type of dances I've ever seen...is sexy and elegant, just amazing and not that easy to learn.
Great job, I love this video.

I think they slowed it down for the dancers. Flamenco is pretty hard to do to this piece, considering how fast it is.
