T Lev had just recently played on the "Momentary Lapse" sessions- wish his Peter Gabriel touring of that year had fallen at another time so he could have toured with Pink Floyd. That would have been a nice sound.
@DarkeningSkies1 Tony Levin called David Gilmour "one of the nicest guys in music, no ego with him". Tony wanted to be in Pink Floyd but that ongoing Peter Gabriel tour for So prevented him from being Roger Waters' full replacement. His bass work on Momentary Lapse was superb and much superior to what Roger Waters was doing at the time with his Radio KAOS.
@tjrrockandrollmaster Yep- I spoke to T Lev briefly after a Crimson gig and he mentioned the Floyd sessions in that light then too. Waters had the conceptual genius, and Gilmour had the musical genius. For me, "Momentary Lapse" was a superior Gilmour solo album, and "KAOS" an inferior Pink Floyd album- they should have just called it quits after "The Wall" and preserved the legacy of the name (though I do love sections of "The Division Bell", it could still be Dave's record).
Beck did a sort of jam with Les. Again with a Strat but that's his instrument of choice. His respect was very clear. Don't think Dave really pulled this one off but his gifts lay elsewhere. Jeff is just sublime..the ultimate juke box. A juke of all tirades and masters them yum! I should be a reporter.....
Anybody know if this special for Les Paul is available on DVD. I remember watching it on tv ages ago. Unfortunatly I didn't record the whole concert. It had Eddie Van Halen as well.
@Gonzaaaga "keyboard guy" is Jan Hammer of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame- an astonishing musician, but that shitty little synth tone does him no favors, I agree. Besides, more space for Papa Gilmour.
As noted by The Wall producer/collaborator Bob Ezrin, “…with Gilmour, equipment is secondary to touch. You can give him a ukulele and he’ll make it sound like a Stradivarius. He’s truly got the best set of hands with which I have ever worked.”

David doesn't pick up a Les Paul, 'cause he knows the sound would be too heavenly for us mere mortals to bear.

HAHA David doing a blues to Les Paul with a Fender Stratocaster, what a bizarre thing.

@radiohm3 Yeah, I remember when this came out thinking the same thing, but he just didn't have his Les Pauls in his road quiver on the AMLOR tour.
