Here is another reason to attach 2 bikes. If the rear bike is pulling a heavy trailer (+250lbs), then an extra person would come in very handy. I tried to make a pull only version of this with a rope and a fishing pole to hold the rope up if the bikes got too close. It was too dangerous. I thought about the direct link a bit, but never tried it. It actually looks safer than a shockabsorbery link (add a 45° maybe?). I like the business plan too. Does it distance you from liability I hope?
It seems like the person in the rear needs to steer carefully because if they go off to the side too much they will pull the other person over. If there is a misunderstanding about what to do in an emergency (turning left or right around an obstacle, it could really be dangerous.
Btw you could make your own tube with a piece of 1.5"pvc tubing and some string or cable ties.
Thanks for your comment Macrumpton. Actually there isn't any tendency for one bike to "pull the other over" because if the bikes are out of alignment, and there is tension in the cycle-link, the rear bike tends to steer toward a position of alignment with the forward bike.
You're right, you can make your own tandem equivalent - that's what's explained in the second half of the video. Make one and let me know how you like it.
This seems like a really bad idea But I do recognise that I haven't tried it for myself.
I'm looking at it from the perspective of a life-long cyclist, tandem enthusiast and professional cycle mechanic.
The potential for mishap just seems far too high. I have a few old bikes laying around, I should give it a go. ;)

@WirElessly Yes Maz, give it a go, as you say, before passing jpudgement. If you happen to be in the SF bay area I'd be delighted to give you a demo.

Sory StarTreking2007 - the out-takes are not as interesting as your name.
