  • Great job with the exhaust. The Vortex sounds perfect.

  • All this talk about the 4.0 being pointless due to lack of power seems to be coming from people whom have never driven a vehicle equipped with it... my b4000 is bone stock and if I hit it just right, I can hang with a 5.4 triton all the way to the opposite end of the intersection. The "low" power ratings are probably due to the smorgasbord of emission control and low/turbulent flow of air into the engine. The 4.0's no joke, say otherwise and it's just arrogant ignorance.

  • I like how this V6 really sounds like a V8

  • does it sound too ricer when you step on it...?

  • i like the tail lights

  • any highway drone with it???

  • Hey flybike fuck you

  • That almost sounds like a V8!

  • @itsoundzgood Im pretty sure if its a 4L it IS a V8, and if it is a V8 he just ruined it.

  • @320bit no you idiot, ford doesnt make a fuckin 4.0 v8 for the explorer. its a damn v6. now they do have 5.0 v8s that they put in some explorers but this damn sure aint a v8

  • @320bit hahahHAAHAHAHAHA

  • @320bit if it was a v8 it would not be a 4.0

    v8s were a 5.0 and v6s were a 4.0

  • @tayblak93 In 1998 the 5.0 V8 was long gone in these cars.....they moved on to the 4.6L V8 at that time with fuel injection. I dont know very many ford engines, Iv just never heard of a 4L V6. A 4L V6 is pointless. And 160~hp for a 4L engine is just horrible. And a 4.6L V8 with 200hp is even worse. Thats why American engines are garbage. My Mercedes 2.8L straight 6 puts out more power than my old ford 4.6 V8 did. Alot more.

  • @320bit you obviously have no idea what youre talking about. its ok ill teach you. i have a 1999 ford explorer 4L v6. 210 hp. not 160 also, a 5L v8 WAS optional when we bought the car. the 5L v8 only has 220 hp. 2002 is when they switched to the 4.6L v8. the 4.6 wasnt even put into cars until then. so get your facts straight before you talk shit.

  • @tayblak93 According to the stats, the 98 Explorer 4L had 160hp. And the 4.6L Modular V8 was FIRST introduced into the 1991 Lincoln Towncar and then later in 95-97ish it was being put into the mustangs. So how about you get your facts straight? They stopped using the old carberated shitty 5.0 V8 in the late 90s not 2002.

  • @tayblak93 Also, you have to remember american cars are rated at the flywheel as well. Which means your engine may possibly have 160hp (or 210hp as you claim) but it wont put that down. Whereas my Mercedes is rated for 200hp at the wheels.

  • @320bit mercedes are garbage

  • @utero220 Yup. Thats why if you go to pretty much any other country besides america, 90% of them drive mercedes benz since they are the most reliable vehicle you can buy.

  • @320bit point taken. i probably just had an unlucky lemon when i owned one. for giggles though.. Here’s a top of the 10 best selling cars in Europe for 2010 1. VW Golf 37,032 2. VW Polo 30,110 3. Ford Fiesta 28,996 4. Renault Clio 23,453 5. Renault Megane 23,144 6. Peugeot 207 22,558 7. Opel/Vauxhall Corsa 21,802 8. Opel/Vauxhall Astra 21,273 9. Nissan Qashqai 20,510 10. Ford Focus 19,764
  • @utero220 And look at the germans up at the top. Followed by the French? Well that just doesnt make any sense now does it. Who are you letting buy cars over there?

  • @tayblak93 So depending on your cars condition, that 160 or 210hp turns into about 140-180 at the wheels. Which is still horrible for a huge V6 and a V8. Even 210hp at the wheels would be a sad excuse for a 4L V6.

  • @320bit For a design with rather low compression, and an ancient architecture (the SOHC is a cobbled together piece still based off of the OHV model) it makes okay power. It's heads don't flow, the stock manifolds are crap, and the intakes aren't port matched. It's an inexpensive engine as far as development goes, google "Taunus v6" and you'll see that this is an antiquated design.

  • @NotYour94Ranger Well if they are only getting 160hp they should just drop a 2L 4 banger in there. Get the same power maybe even more, with less fuel consumption.

  • @320bit You're forgetting a critical aspect of these larger, less fuel efficient, and not-so power efficient engines, they make torque, and the Ranger/Explorer are trucks first, towing is important, a high revving 4 cylinder would eat clutch discs top do the same job. Horsepower is only a calculation of torque at a given RPM. Even the later model 4.0 V6s only rev to 6500, the older OHV 4.0s go to 5200, neither is a great RPM for making high numbers out of a given volume of air.

  • @NotYour94Ranger With 160hp I cant see it developing much more if even 200lb-ft. A good 2L 4 banger could produce more than that. Im not talking about little honda engines either. My 2.8 straight 6 produces about 235lb-ft with 200hp.

  • @320bit Engine size frequently limits cheap revs. Make a 4.0V6 rev to 7 and flow smoothly, and it'll make far more power, but as they come, not so much.

a 2L 4 banger could not make 200 lb.ft. of torque at a reasonable RPM within the limits of factory production (mostly cost). A straight six *naturally* makes more torque and power due to lower internal frictional losses over a V design, plus they're naturally better balanced, thus can spin faster with less machining and engineering.

  • @NotYour94Ranger Im with you that 4 bangers in general arnt good for towing anything but their own weight. But to have a huge V6 producing such little power just still seems pointless to me.

  • @tayblak93 Sad thing is I dumped almost a grand into my old 4.6 V8 with new heads, sparks, plugs, intake, exhaust, and it still could only get to 60 in 9 seconds. Whereas my straight 6 stock gets up to 60 in 7.5ish.

  • i dig it.

  • sounds like a personal problem........ which means you should keep it to yourself

  • dam! thats badass!! i got a 98 Ford explorer too

where did u get ur vortex and those tailights!

    Ford Fucking Rules!!

  • what all do yo have done to the exhaust?

    how big of pipes?

how much did you get the muffler for?

  • eh...cherry bombs suck...they're so quiet.

  • just because their not loud doesn't mean they suck! its got a nice low/deep tone (for the 4.0 v6), to it which i what i wanted. so i really could care less if you dont like it

  • you should probly be quiet too. cuz he wasnt going for loudness

  • Sounds awesome. It sounds like a turbo'd 4.0dual straight piped Mustang I heard on here. Five stars

  • Might be the best 4.0 SOHC exhaust I've heard yet.
