So grateful I found a detailed video on how to sanitize lipsticks.
First time ever that I've purchased a lipstick and when I opened it it was another color on top, someone had mixed there lipstick on top, I was digusted (still am)!
I'm going to scrape away the top layer too. I'm no germ-a-phob but I don't enjoy buying something someone else is using. Typically drugstore lipsticks I buy sealed, this was just a quick run in & found it on the way out.
I think this tutorial is great for your own make-up. But, with swaping make-up there is no way to 100% kill germs. The FDA and most doctors will tell you this is not safe. It's not just the top surface of the make-up that becomes infected germs can actually seep down into the base of any makeup eyeshadows, lipstick, etc
I think this tutorial is great for your own make-up. But, with swaping make-up there is no way to 100% kill germs. The FDA and most doctors will tell you this is not safe. So, say you were to get pink eye from a specific eyeliner, could you use clean it with alcohol and then use it again or is it best to throw that kind of stuff away? I'm asking because I get allergic conjunctivitis a lot from other things that dont have to do with makeup, but I'm constantly told to throw away makeup afterwards anyway, which is really annoying when it happens frequently.
i love your videos, ***** i love it can u please which shade and brand of the lipstick the one which u r wearing and a gloss as iam from india ..thank you once again:-).. love you
Are you sure you should be wiping the product (lipstick, liner) directly after dipping it in the alcohol? I thought really sanitizing with alcohol is allowing the alcohol to dry/evaporated. And since alcohol dries quickly then there's not a necessity to wipe EVERYTHING afterwards.
couldn't you also squeeze out some gloss onto a flat surface and then share it by letting another person dab it onto themselves? admittedly it would be a clean and sanitized surfae and a squeezable gloss. with the applicator glosses again use a flat surface and at its edge scrape the gloss off till desired amount is out of the gloss containor. again clean surface sanitized.
Love your videos have given me inspiration and plenty of tips thank you!
You can also put the Alcohol in a small spray bottle, that's what I do it's so much easier you spray it a few inches away. I spray them directly on to my brushes before and after I use them and on all my eye shadows and pretty much everything else.
Also don't forget to spray the inside caps of your lipsticks and lip liners and eye liners!
@JBieberSC I spray all my makeups including eye liners, lip liners and the caps too. I just spray them and lay them out while I do all of them. I don't wipe mines, I lay it out do dry for like a min or 2 and it does not ruin my makeup at all!
My mother is an epidemiologist and she also told me germs die at 70% concentration.
I am currently battling acne and when this ends I need to disinfect my concealer so that bacteria doesn't get on my face. I think I'm going to throw it away lol you scared me about that not completely sanitizing it part.
I use mouthpiece sanitation spray for instruments. It's 70% alcohol and it's minty, so it's like an added bonus of refreshed smell in addition to sanitized products. It's only a couple bucks so it's cheaper than a lot of other makeup sanitation products, and it's 100% safe because it's designed to sanitize instrument mouthpieces. Good buy! And great tips, MissChievous!
This is just germ-fearing paranoia! If you are sharing your make-up then ok, you may want to remove the portion that has been touched by someone else, but my question is this - who has actually suffered any kind of infection from using their own stuff!
@ScrumbleNuts Well, if you use your own makeup on other people, such as if you're doing a play and you bring in your own products, then it's best to sanitize what you brought in case people, who you don't know very well, used your products without asking then it's worth it to sanitize. Even if you purposely used your own makeup on people, you should still sanitize because everybody's face is different and helpful bacteria on one's face may be harmful to someone else's.
Julia, I tried cleaning my MAC fluidline like this because it was getting super dry and gross looking..I wiped off the top layer using 70% alcohol and there were so many cracks in it that I poured a bit of alcohol in, poured it out and mixed it all up with a sanitized eyeliner brush. Now, it's not as dry as before... it's actually quite moist. Do you think it is safe to use on my eyes? I'm concerned maybe the alcohol cannot evaporate out..
@FuriouslyFabulous surgical spirit is the same as rubbing alcohol, its just that in america they call it rubbing alcohol and in the uk we call it surgical spirit :)x
Just to let everyone know you CANNOT get herpes etc from makeup!!!! Bacteria and viruses do not last longer than a maximum of 10 secs outside the human body, evry bacteria needs a host eg oxygen and a blood supply to survive. Even for human to human contact normally body fluids have to be exchanged for you to contract the virus- gurus really need to research what they are saying before giving out false information like that- ALL of them.
@missfrancesimo1 It's a fact that nasty things survive on public bathroom walls.........so I'd never even take a chance on make up. That's too up-close and personal. But thanks for your info. I'll check it out. Better to be safe than sorry.
How do u keep eyeshadows/eyeshadow brushes sanitary when using it on other people or doing it ''professionally''? Would I have to scrape the top layer off the shadow everytime i use it on a person? Whats the professionals secret to that? Lol i cant find the answer anywhere, help!
@OctoberBaby543 you dont scrape the eyeshadow at all. take a paper towel with some alcohol on it and just dab it on top. It'll kill all the germs and it won't ruin your make up
@makeupxomouse when i had my make up done thats what the girl did she sanitized the brush then put face powder on a pallet then applied it she never directly put the brush to the source so she didnt need to shave n e off
one thing to think about most people have sensative skin so to sanitize makeup with alcohol can cause an alergic reaction to the person being the alcohol still on the product this is ideal when working on clients
@lola2022 Alcohol evaporates completely. That's how it actually kills the germs. The rest is plain water which also evaporates. Allergic reactions are caused rather by other "fancier" sanitizers or perfumes/"aloe"/additives used in sanitizers, not by pure alcohol.
@ralukittytube alchol will still sit in the products and eventually destroy them this is what I learned inmakeup school u never want to clean any of ur makeup products with alcohol at least yyour eyeshadows and blushes

70% is good, but the problem is 20% of it is water and will murder any powders you use. Try using a UV wand, they're cheap and far more effective, or 15 seconds in a microwave. Alcohol is vastly inferior to those two methods.
magnificent instructions - nice one, has anybody sampled Rimmel's latest line of products?? it is not easy to obtain good makeup in Greenwood yet i managed to obtain some brilliant samples of make-up using 'Gratis Makeup Samples', theyre cool!
Im glad there are others out there like us when it comes to sanitization in the battle of bacteria transfer / and elimination in the cosmetic world. I do have a problem with the statement about sanitizing with alcohol. Alcohol really only sterilizes when flamed. Alcohol will kill most germs, but not all.
oh thank you so much for this video few days ago i was just wondering what to do with few lip sticks ahhhhhhhh u saved me xD thx dear i am sednign you big kiss
hey, im wondering, can anybody tell me if u could use anticeptic disifectant that you can use for first aid e.g cuts and grazes and also around the house?
Just use the alcohol but don't ever put alcohol on cuts. It's burns like hell! lol the alcohol she is talking about is pretty cheap and can be found in any pharmacy, so you shouldn't have a problem finding it. You can also use the alcohol to clean your makeup containers, keyboards, cell-phone etc. Of course put it on a cotton swab or a tissue when doing that! I use this all of the time to clean my keyboard and cellphone. Works great.
Thank you for the tips Julia! Me and my mom and sis share makeup..I'm just glad we use powder products and uses brushes for those..or else...eek! I'll sanitize them now hehe ^_^
You look so fresh and pretty in this video by the way ^_^
Thanx for the video sooooooooooo much, i have a tip that i like to share it with you and the fans that i clean my dry makeup such as compact powder, eyeshadwes and blushes......etc by the Dettol Disinfectant Surface Spray which is awesome really just like that spray on it and live it for seconds to dry that's it also i spray it on my bruches hande or taile which it the wood one:) ya that's it and again thanx aloooooooooooot
That's what we used to do at Victoria's Secret.. we had a spray bottle of alcohol and cleaned all the lipsticks and gloss pots.
I never knew about that little symbol on the back of some makeup for how long it's good for once opened. Though not all have them (which they should)...
Thanks, this is really helpful. I have often wondered about the safety of products. I don't share but definitely I should throw away some older productions. I will try the sanitizing also. Good tips!
I just loved this video and favorited it, because it's so important! I'm a medical student and one of the things I learned at the hospital, especially with the hole H1N1 situation, is that 70% alcohol is mor eficient to kill germs than the stronger ones, like 90%. That is because the alcohol "needs" to have a bit more water in the formula so it can penetrate all the bacteria.
So, for killing germs 70% alcohol is better than the 90% or higher ones!

what kind of brand name did you use to kill the germs on the makeup product .

hey, im wondering, can anybody tell me if u could use anticeptic disifectant that you can use for first aid e.g cuts and grazes and also around the house?
thanks for the help in advance :)
xholdmetonightx 2 years ago
Just use the alcohol but don't ever put alcohol on cuts. It's burns like hell! lol the alcohol she is talking about is pretty cheap and can be found in any pharmacy, so you shouldn't have a problem finding it. You can also use the alcohol to clean your makeup containers, keyboards, cell-phone etc. Of course put it on a cotton swab or a tissue when doing that! I use this all of the time to clean my keyboard and cellphone. Works great.

can you use rubbing alcohol?
iheartnickjonasssss 2 years ago
That's what we used to do at Victoria's Secret.. we had a spray bottle of alcohol and cleaned all the lipsticks and gloss pots.
I never knew about that little symbol on the back of some makeup for how long it's good for once opened. Though not all have them (which they should)...

Thanks, this is really helpful. I have often wondered about the safety of products. I don't share but definitely I should throw away some older productions. I will try the sanitizing also. Good tips!

I heard putting lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, and things like that in the freezer for 24 hours it will kill the germs that may be on it.

I hope I could help, and I love your videos!

What about rubbing alcohol?
VyperEyez 2 years ago
pure alcohol would probably irritate your skin.
