I believe for every file that has completed the game on the first there will be the character profile on the second.

So if you beat the game 3 times on 3 different files.. you will have 3 files on the second.

Should work like other PC games. You just use both discs at the install. After that, you probably only need to first disc to run the game (or no disc at all).

Either way, there will be no swapping discs mid-game.

no skills, you start over, no weapons either, they're all different.

Class can be changed at start from saved game and level is supposed to be boosted just a bit if you've played the first game. The biggest decisions of course are addressed from the first game and even some of the assignments on uncharted worlds come into effect. There are definitely perks to unloading a saved game, but it basically only has to deal with decisions and character development up to the ending.

I hope the achievements in the next game give you in game bonuses like the last one did.

It was far more enjoyable unlocking the 1000/1000 when you were actually rewarded with something you could use for it, unlike the useless Katana + Recon of Halo 3

Some bonuses only apply to new characters unfortunately, but all in all an enjoyable system

I think Mass Effect has the potential to be really really huge like Star Trek if handled correctly. With space eploration, alien races, new planets and great storylines. This is suppose to be a trilogy but I think it has a longer lasting appeal as a lenthy series.
