so tom learned guitar in my grandparents kitchen. it was a board that held the fridge level that he used to keep his time. I cant seem to find anything on my grandfather however who also had a radio station and a appearance as well on the don messe'rs jubilee. If anyone knows of any information pertaining to Arnel (Arnold) Murphy. No middle name known. please let me know. thanks.
Thank you Mr. Snyder we are VERY proud of Tom & Don and of all the people that play this wonderful music as well as our friends in Texas and other great states that carry on the tradition of this great music.
My friend Lou a Canadian Contractor in Saudi Arabia gave me some country music. With in it there was this fellar called Stomping Tom. He is the best and I listen to his music every day. I hope to visit Canada some day and you all can be very proud of both (Don Messer) and Tom. Daniel M. Snyder, Hutto, Texas
sad fact: Don made a number of recordings back in those vinyl days but never recorded his show's theme, "Smile the While." I still remember Charlie and Marg singing it every week when i was a child. It was a show my family watched every week. I would love to have a copy of them doing that beautiful song.
My grandfather played fiddle on the Don Messer show. My dad met Stompin Tom, they were singing at the same place. What a treasure in my heart, as both my grandad and father are gone now.
You've done a wonderful tribute to a legendary musician. Thank you so much. And let's keep making music in his name and that of all the great folks who taught us how.
Sadly I only became a fan after most of them were gone! However now realize the treasures they were to maritime music and to Canada!!!Thanx for posting!
This should be a test for Canadian citizenship....IF you don't know both of these men? We'll drive you to the USA border!

The fiddle in the background sounds like a familiar tune. What is it?
