  • The FINEST guitar phrasing ever is by DG hands down!!!!

  • Good times!!!!!!!!

  • Great stuff, thanks

  • my late uncle's name... Gilmour is a genious....!!

  • I just prefer the Studio version.. this one is quite sloppy :/... anyway.. this is one of the best songs i've ever heard!!

  • @foofoobunny2000

Sloppy? This is the studio version. Gilmour and the band are miming to it.

  • @m06een00 eh.. no, this is not the studio version!! the solo is not even played as the studio version!!.. I don't believe that David Gilmour's band is miming on live tv.. that's too cheap for an artist like him! :D

  • @m06een00 no it's not

  • David Gilmour, Steve Howe, Jimmy Page - they are all unique guitarists. I don't need to compare them, they are all brilliant with their own unique styles. I bought Davids first l.p. back in 1980, it still sounds vibrant and timeless 30+ years on.

  • best guitar player of the UNIVERSE ! !

  • nostalgico

    alla por 1978.......

    hoy todo es basura

  • I love this song. PF would never have become PF without Gilmour.

  • Gilmour is up there on the greatest guitarists list. His sound penetrates. Jimmy Page has said the greatest guitar player is Steve Howe and i cannot disagree with that.

  • @MrDavidh1111 Just dropping that in for arguments sake, are you? Who gives a fuck about what Jimmy Page thinks, or Steve Howe...plenty of pages dedicated to them if that's your thing

  • @irena7777777 lmao, no shit....couldn't have said it better myself

  • His younger Brother, Mark, who I went to School with in NYC is Rythem Guitar..Love it Mark!

  • Love the Lydian mode

  • yea except when Gilmour took over, we got two of the suckiest PF albums, Momentary Lapse & Divison Bell. Ugh.

  • @YerJob i agree they arent as good as the others, but i wouldnt say they are sucky, they have good songs - they just arent killer albums like the others

  • @YerJob I respectfully disagree

  • @Rozq87 I respectfully suggest yerjob can gargle my balls

  • @PutItAway101 well said :)

  • @YerJob Dude, haven't you heard Yet another movie? It' birilliant! up there with the best PF IMO

  • @YerJob NO fucking way man there's not a piece of the division bell that isnt good the beginning with richard going into guitart with gilmour One of there best album's ever in my opinion

  • @YerJob Yeah, people bash Gilmour's work in Waters' absence. 'Course if you're you're really bent on the old Pink Floyd sound, Waters never came close to realizing the same quality of music without the other members. In fact, it could be argued Floyd without Waters, although not great, was better than Waters without Floyd.

  • Mark gilmour plays the other guitar

  • Gilmours work is to me MUCH more 'Pink Floydesque" then what Water has done solo. In fact, I can get pretty sick by Waters neurotic singing, but the singing of Gilmours guitar will NEVER make me sick....In other words, Pink Floyd to me = David Gilmour.....Perhaps albums like The Wall never should have existed. If Gilmour would have been the one in charge those days, Pink Floyd albums would have been...móre Pink Floyd.

  • @MrSunshine58 thems there fighting words mr sunshine

  • Great song. Nobody does instrumentals any more.

  • @themanfromrussia lol, don't be ridiculous

  • He opened with this in 1985 on the About Face tour and performed most of the material from the first solo album.

  • Love this album...

  • sonido incomparable ¡¡¡¡¡

  • This one was always my favourite from "Cry from the Street"-sounds like a kind of (mystical) tribute to Hank B Marvin-so good to see the video of it :-)

  • Happy Birthday David and loving you always with admiration!!

  • This video is incredible!!!! I just downloaded this album and think it's amazing.

  • this is just mindblowing ......... thank you , i would like to know where i can find this video please

  • I love Lydian

  • Dorian

  • @rubicon1983

    lydian

  • HHhhhmmm? Maybe Joe Satriani should've called his song "Fly in a Pink Dream"

  • Oh my god!!You are absolutely right...!

  • @tomkovacic LOL! always thought that it was very similar too!

  • I just watched Steve Vai's orchestral performance of "For the Love of God" and it left me cold, this on the other hand never fails to give me goose bumps, as does all of Gilmour's solos. He is easily the best ever rock soloist by miles. No one else comes close to being in such good taste artistically speaking and I mean no disrespect to Steve Vai, who is simply amazing by the way.

  • @unaperrson It's the difference between a musician and a technician. You can admire a technician, but it's like admiring the way someone fixes your computer. True art lies in another dimension. It grabs your emotions and inspires you. It's egoless.

David makes it to that dimension. The techie shredders don't. They're competitors, not artists. They're showing off. The only people who are inspired by that are competitive (as opposed to artistic) people, who want to show off themselves.

  • @Panglos that you don't get something does not make it what you think it is. the fact you don't get it and others do should tell you that .

  • @Panglos You said exactly what I'm thinking! so true :)

  • @Panglos totaly agree there is plenty of guitarists who have there scales down and they can play them really fast but they are doing nothing creative make me cry make me laugh foget it its a waste of time trying explain the finer points to acertain crowd

  • Lucky Man i am for seeing him live....sweet...awesome post

  • Amazing.

  • In my opinion, David Gilmour's finest hour! The best Instrumental of all time, hard to argue!

  • I don't understand why David has never performed any music from his solo career when he did his solo tour in 2006. This and raise my rent are some of his finest moments especially the latter. ooh! aND CRY FROM THE STREET!!!

  • right, and even "There's no way out of here" ! wouldn't you like to hear something from "About face" too?

  • Love about face! what ever happened to Lets Get Metaphysical? and blue light?? near the end??? You know I'm right... These tracks were nowhere to be heard on his tour, really broke my heart. he chose to play floyd tracks instead. oh well... maybe he doesn't like his other albums

  • Let's Get Metaphysical is far his best composition, gives me the goosebumps every time I listen to it.

    :)

  • @lionhasalreadybe so true..so sad how waters and glimour cant get along..truely the greatest music of our time.

  • @lionhasalreadybe you're absolutly right man!

  • @lionhasalreadybe

I think it was due to lack of belief in his own abilities. Gilmour joined PF in 1968 as Barrett's replacement on guitar and vocals. Waters was then the new songwriter and in my opinion, Waters' songwriting saved the band.

Gilmour's guitar playing became as much part of the Pink Floyd sound as Barrett, Waters, Wright and Mason.

In 1978 I found a copy of "Sounds" on a London train. In it: it says: Mega Star makes Fine Solo Album. David Gilmour: Alive and Intriguing!

  • no puedo parar de ecucharlo!!

  • joe thou shalt not accuse anyone of stealing when thou art stealing yourself, innit?

  • Mesmerizing

  • i think satriani has even the same modulation... in it ??!!

  • yep

  • feeling!!!

  • This is my favorite composition by Gilmour,I have his three solo albums.

  • Malaka mixali ektos apo t na tragoudas maiden pezeis k gamw t kithares!!!!!!!!!

    5/5

  • Really fab! Thanks!

  • that´s very similar to joe satriani´s flying in a blue dream... i think

and it begins with the same tonality...

  • Dude, you mean satriani is similar to this.

  • Comment removed

  • Gilmour was playing great music long before Satriani or Coldplay...I think both groups were inspired by Gilmour's music

  • I'm almost positive this came out before Flying in a Blue Dream.

  • Mihalis came out in 1978,

Flying in a blue dream came out in 1989...

  • @PeteBlack7 uh satriani was a child when this came out

  • The ripping guitar solos of Gilmour!

  • I have his first album and it was alright. This music is quite nice.

  • "David Gilmour purchased a boat from Greece named Mihalis some time ago; he did not change the name of it because it is bad luck!"

  • This song is fantastic despite the really depressed and gloomy tune. I guess thats what makes Gilmour a great guitarist..he blends his notes with the moods.

  • Sure. I agree, Gilmour is on the top of the list...like he gets better with age. But, think you missed 2 other same category slow-handers (Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler)..matter of fact Gilmour mentions their names himself as ones he admires and respects in many interviews. --OK yup there is also B.B. King, Chet Atkins, Hank Marvin etc... they don't shred and they're real talented stuff (you ought to check them out too in case you like David Gilmour). Cheers!! Ashwin

  • Just a little correction ... Eric Clapton is not a "slow hander" .. he was given a name slow hand, ironically. I admit he often plays slow, but the solo's are dynamic .. he changes speed, from really slow to really really fast.

  • hey im justin just gota tell u clapton got his nickname cuase of how long it used 2 take him 2 change a broken string during a show, sometimes 20 mins, i saw it on a doco bout him

  • what a great album!!!

  • David is the most sentimental guitar player I know. This song is simple and tender, and testament to David's genius.

  • nice comment : f**** all the shredders in the world.. lol

  • David Gilmour. Genious in his simplicity.

F%ck all the shredders in the world.

  • I totally gree with you man. D.G is the best guitar player ever. He is miles away forward than many guitar players, drug abusers. He doesn´t need any kind of shit to create great music. That is talent

    Thanks for posting

    Rock on.

    Charly

  • This song is an excellent example of how to use the lydian mode (consciously or not)!

  • That is so true, the lydian always evokes a special sentimental, reflective, mysterious quality.

  • Absolutely! This song has all of those qualities and even feels "majestic" at times.

  • my favorite david gilmour album, thanks for posting this

  • thanks arcanton!

    been a favorite for decades!

dave gilmour self titled is gilmour at his best!

for years i have wondered why his later work lacks the power-

    maybe the rogers-gilmour chemistry

-after the final cut we have seen these floydies trying to find the floyd magic in vain for 20 odd years -

    thanks again-absolutely hair raising stuff!

  • wonderful song

  • Que obra de arte é o homem? Que nobre é a razão ,que infinito nas faculdades, na expressão e nos movimentos ,que determinado e admirável. Assim é David

  • Once again thanks for sharing. Gilmours laid back playing definitely makes his guitar sing and dig deep into one's soul.AWESOME!

  • This has always been one of, if not my favorite songs of his. Proof that you don't need lightning flash licks to show you're an awesome guitarist.

  • exactly! the way he bends his strings, it's like making love to the guitar. he has created aural orgasms for me for many years. :)

  • I've always said Gilmour could make a whole song off of one note. It's awesome that he can still play the way he does. Age has not slowed him down at all.

  • absolutely true, his stunning good looks may suffered a wee bit, but his talent only increases. what i would give for that talent.

  • yeah joe satriani definitely borrowed heavily from this song.

  • Gilmours style here in 1978 was many, many years ahead of its time. A true innovator. I bought this album in 1978 when I was 14 years old.

  • dave is not a speedy player, but his guitar screams and cries. He is simply brillaint excellent guitarist, very melodic, moving and tasteful. He is the greatest ever!

  • great video, i love davids solos albumns, is there any higher quality source of this footage?

  • Satriani´s "flying in a blue dream" always sounded similar to this song. The lidian mode is great!!!!

  • fucking awesome! one of my fav Gilmour tracks ever! He is the greatest guitarist of all time!

  • Good video of the Animals tour is hard to come by... David was at his height during 75-78, and his self titled solo cd is amazing guitar work!

  • Wow. Great rare video. My personal favorite song from his first solo album. Love to find some live footage of Dave/Floyd just prior to this during the Animals tour. Thanks for the vid.

  • This is a great song from his 1978 solo album, thanks for sharing!
