Lionfish are an invasive species! They do not belong anywhere in the Atlantic ocean! They have no natural predators, eat unsustainable amounts of reef fish and throw the ecosystem way out of balance. Whoever shot this should've left the camera and brought the speargun instead!
@vonillahead217 but you gotta admit they are a beautiful fish. almost beautiful enough to trade in for the other unsustainable reef fish from the atlantic.
@pak1in5audia you must be high on crack when making that statement! the pterois volitan can grow up to 40cm (metric measurement) which is roughly 16in (american standard measurement). can you imagine a 40in lionfish? that thing will scare the shit out of sharks and whales. no scientists would want to come near it enough to measure it. please quit the crack cocaine!
They are highly invasive in the Caribbean and have now started to outnumber our native fish in the most infested locations. Fortunately, they have now been adopted as a food fish in some parts of the Caribbean, which should encourage their removal.
I'm sorry to interject with this ecology discussion but these were shot in the RED SEA where they are supposed to be...
