@redzaturn It was only running on the fabric for this video. That would be pathetic if it over heated from just his. But It doesn't mater I have I Mac Pro and it can run in any setting and not get hot, or BREAK!
honestly, the laptop will react the same way you take care of it.. if you work on it like that dude on his bed OF COURSE it will crash hundrets of times over and over and not only the hard drive will burn off but the entire motherboard with all the components..
@Mazda6B6 This will prevent the cooling system to work properly causing the temperature in all components to rise above 100 C..Mostly above 80 C your laptops processor minimizes its performance to prevent overheating, causing problems with the operating system and every software you use, but in your case(daily working on it not on flat surface)soon every part will overheat and meltdown probably..So the problem is not from the laptop, but you..If you just take a good care of it will be just OK :)
@Viaset Yes, I do agree. However, I never had the computer operating at extended periods on my bed lol. Only had it on bed for 2 minutes. The computer never had overheating problems( fan/cooling), therefore this rules out overheating the cause of the XPS issues. Additionally, most of the issues stated in the video happened during "Very" casual computer use (college). I never gamed on it, nor did I run it is on high settings at extended periods. overall, XPS is a piece of shit! I rest my case. :)
@Mazda6B6 What are you talking about? It needs to cool! you've got every vent on it blocked by having it on the bed.. Your own fault if it fails.. Could ruin the CPU, GPU, HDD or MOBO.. Good Luck
@m1330T9500 I never had the computer operating at extended periods on my bed lol. Only had it on bed for 2 minutes. I now have a Macbook Pro. It can run Mac in any condition w/out failing
@Mazda6B6 I've had the XPS m1530 for nearly 3 years now (same machine in a bigger case) and I've had absolutely no issues with it. I clean out the fan once a year and reinstall the OSs (ubuntu + w7) every 6 months for best performance. I've used it for games, office, browsing, photo editing and video editing. Its never been dropped, looks like new and performs as well as any brand new machine. I wish Dell still made them with core i5 & 7s and more ram. I'd buy it in an instant.
@tzeimet I believe Microsoft makes computers with "Built-in obsolescence" , which makes their computers inferior( Break, crash, overheat, slow down, die*) overtime. This XPS lasted about 6 months and then I started to notice the symptoms. First thing was a considerable drop in performance and speed.
@Mazda6B6 Well that's opinion, but talking stats and price windows computers are better, in my opinion having used a mac for some time I definetly prefer windows computers.
i got a dell laptop and it,s a very good laptop i buy it one year ago on the Internet never crashed only fall one time butt stil working great if this laptop will broken i will buy certainly a dell laptop
U PHAIL. I have used this laptop for about 1.5 years until now and it works flawlessly. I had it run XP, Vista and win 7 in several configurations.
Never had any issue like you, maybe you treat your laptop as any typical book or bunch of papers. This is Technology kid, threat it better than your girlfriend.
@netshark umm no, I maintained it well. I planned on using it through college and never reated it like 'trash'. I spent 2 grand on this....this.... garbage machine. My first year I had it there were so many problems, it was ridiculous. I could never rely on the computer for fear that it would crash, as it did many times. I had to buy a external hd to backup my important files. After the graphics card failed 3 times I gave up and bought a Apple computer. I'm an apple fanatic to say the least
@Thecomputergamer2008 I'm not going back to Dell. My family was a dell loyal consumer but that's changed. The M1330 was the worst investment I made.
I currently have a MacBook Pro which I custom covered with CF vinyl. I outperforms my pos m1330 like night and day. And I recommend you get an Apple computer! I can now do hwk on my computer without worrying about the hard drive crashing! Microsoft OS is low as shit.
@Mazda6B6 yeah, anyways i'm going to the Apple store tomorrow to have a look at them. I have used them before and I really like them. While I'll still probably use Windows for some gaming I will use OS X a lot more for things like Photoshop and video editing
@Thecomputergamer2008 I still use my XPS to do minor work but stuff that's not that significant. OS X is great. I love the video editing software. I now make videos in 720/1080p. and the Mac runs is flawlessly.
you should have back up your Data to a Dvd Cd. of courst you can part the hdd in to two an have C: and D: and store all your stuff on the D: Drive, E: will now become the cd rom, no you can crash windows as many times as you like but D: will be there for you unless you have a HDD fail then your screwed, thumb drives are cheap buy one and back up your doc's
The greatest disappointment ever. I bought it on in Aug07 and I had to replace the hard drive in Oct & the charger in Dec. The computer crashed again in Feb. Extremely fragile. Doesn't perform as well as it claims. It's super slow and customer support takes forever to identify problems. I had to stay on the phone for 6 hrs to get my problem fixed. Don't buy this... or buy it from me! I'm so ready to get rid of it!
Yes. You should consider yourself lucky. I had to wait 2 months!!!!! They kept delaying my order! First it started out to come 11/12/07 then it went to 12/2/07 then 12/29/07 then 1/20/08 then back to 1/4/08. After that day, I finally got it! YAY!!
Yeah. I got that Protective Binder with my Dell XPS M1330 too. Too bad it doesn't come with a Windows Anytime Upgrade Disc :( Do you have Home Premium or did you get Ultimate? And how did you get that fingerprint reader?!?!? When I ordered it, it didn't come with a fingerprint reader. It only came with an integrated webcam and a built in microphone.
I got vista Premium. When I was ordering my laptop I was in the customization window. I chose the option the have a fingerprint scanner. It was an add on that was like 80 bucks.
Are you serious? It was only 80 bucks? I had to call Dell to order my laptop because the website was flooded with people so I barely could even get on. Dell didn't even ask me if I wanted that add on. :( Is there anyway I can get that add on after I have ordered the laptop?
Just wondering, are you happy with the laptop? e.g no faults, is it what you expected - better/worse?
and also how is the fan on the laptop? i have one now that isnt very old but even when i just use internet explorer and nothing else I can hear the fan going, is it the same on your laptop?
It's my first laptop. It's very good but not outstanding. I think there are better laptops out on the market, but that is how it is now a days. I seems like once you buy a laptop there's some new one that's better. I can hear the fan right now as a type this. It doesn't really bother me tho. I just gotta get used to the Vista OS. Do you mean you have an XPS m1330?
You barely hear the fan spinning. It's pretty quiet. One time when I upgraded my BIOS, the fan was very noisy. So noisy it can be heard from upstairs. (Nah I'm just exaggerating) Although it was very noisy, that was the only time I experienced it.
I ordered my m1330 two months ago but got tired of them changing my "estimated delivery date". I cancelled the order but I have to admit, it looks damn nice! If they sort their delays out soon, before a better laptop appears, I might have to reorder :)
