what has happened is the wheel is stuck to the hub. there has been anti seize copper grease put on the hub causing a cemical reaction beetween the steel copper and aliminium, copper grease is for steel wheels
so are rims the new drum brakes? guess he didnt know leaving one lug nut partially on and front or back kicking the inside (while standing under vehicle and tires off of ground) of tire works quicker, better, and less noise and damage
I've had to use this method several times as an automotive technican. However, that looks like a steel sledge hammer, which is not the correct hammer of this technique.
you can tell who the misinformed, un-mechanically inclined dumb-asses are on Youtube. this is a normal scene when you have an alloy rim seized to a steel hub... fucking morons.
I doubt most of you saying hit the tire or the back of the rim have ever had to remove a wheel that's seized to the hub. Hit the tire with a hammer and it bounces back and does not break the wheel from the hub at all, and the only part of the back of the rim you are gunna hit is the bead and that pretty fucking retarded, unless you like hitting the discs. The way he's doing it is pretty much the only way to do it, just like removing a drum that's seized on.
yes, alloy/amuminum wheel rust to the hub, so sometimes this is required. HOWEVER the man shoulve protected the wheel with a block of wood. And this COULD fuck up alignment, but its not very likely to happen
I've had that once before. It must have been a coastal car. I did have to smack the wheel real hard but I hit the back side of the wheel so if I did leave a mark on the wheel you wouldn't see it. However this car was a piece of junk that the dealer owned and after I inspected and found everything wrong they auctioned it off. Not even worth fixing.
@captaincaveman1 ah you have a point but...when i watched the vid. it seemed the owner was recording and he was gunna take it to court....for a stupid mechanic..i still woundt of hit the rim tho..DEFINENLTY not the center....the tire(more leverage on the prying factor)
If this is a seized rim, loosen the lug nuts and do some zig-zags!! Hands down the best way! Antiseize the piss out of the backside of the aluminum where it touches the steel when that bastard comes off!!
Have any of you idiots heard of a seized Hub ?? it's what happens when people don't change pull their tires off or wash their car very often in salty places, but he should of been hitting it from the inside not the outside
I'd say he's trying to break a wheel stud with a rounded off or cross threaded nut. I'd just use a torch but what do I know, I use a torch for stubborn fuel filters.
What an idiot!Sure, alloy wheels can seize on VERY tightly but that is no method to loosen them.Leave one bolt/lug nut a few turns on,hoist the car up and kick with your feet on the inside against them,"swinging from the underside of the car, that will get them off.
lol i had this problem before, to solve it I loosed my wheel nuts 3 turns and drove back and forth over the curb at the end of the driveway, worked like a charm.
sorry mister customer you havent taken your wheels off in so long we may ruin them taking them off we have tryed everything (look how hard the guy hits it, all of theese other suggested ways woul not have worked, the wheel still was not free)we tapped on it with all types of dead blows from the inside. I didnt build it buy it or break it. just trying to help you fix it!
if your cars wheel was stuck on this bad from lack of mainence or poor quality metal, you deserve dents in your wheel. now im sure the guy tryed all the pussy foot ways first, but when you work off commission how long are you gonna let some crappy car the owner doesnt maintain slow you down. i say fuck a kia, junk anyway
I'm guessing that the portion of the rim that touches the hub was rusted on. It's common place at the shop that I work at to use a hammer to get the tire off... BUT we don't use 20lb steel sledgehammers and we sure as hell wouldn't hit it direction on the spokes of the rim. The back side of the rim, on the lip with a hard rubber or plastic hammer will do it just fine.
@goldsgym1244 its called, And a 1 ! , and a 2 !!! , and aaa !!!!!....... oh the poor guy needs a new alloy, oh well put that on the bill and 3 hours of hitting the sledge metal on metal of labor. Good thing its not a skyline or i`ll be mad
Whenever I get a stuck wheel I put the lug nuts on finger tight and drive it about 100 yards while turning the wheel left and right. Put it back on the lift and the wheel comes right off.
There are alot of mechanics do not realized how lucky they have it for working on vehicles . I live in a region where road salt is used on the highways for 5 months of the year . I have seen me have to sledge steel wheels off that are seated and seized onto a 1/8 pilot lip on the hub . Rotors need to be well heated and beat on in hopes the rust will knock loose , 1/2 chevs , I now use the angle grinder and cut the center of the rotor off , it is the fastest , least abusive method I have found .
@kamikenzie : under that cap in the center, there is nut and a cotter pin, its admazing just how a rotor just falls off when you remove the nut. on newer ones, hit it with a dead blow hammer from behind, you'll send it across the room.
@prozanine OK genius , first off I am talking about rotors on "newer" vehicles sitting on a hub assembly bearing , maybe you can come and show me the magic cotter pin and nut that will let it "fall off" ? Secondly , I have seen rotors literally knocked to pieces (and yes from the back side) and still stuck on the vehicle , all the while you're beating the ever living shit out of the front end components . If you are not from a region that uses road salt you don't quite understand .
@kamikenzie : ok, I guess am just a different mechanic then you, if you noticed, I did write on newer ones, ever tried a air hammer? you could also try putting pressure on it with a puller, then hit it from behind with a dead blow, or air hammer. I have never had a problem removing a rotor, and yes, am vary sorry to say, I work as a real mechanic. if chrysler still sells it, their EGR rusty bolt spray, works beyond bitchen on rust, the only thing chrysler ever sold worth a shit.
@prozanine I did notice you said newer ones , I am not sure why you would think I would take an angle grinder to a rotor that is held on with a nut ? Other than maybe you think I am that stunned , and that is about the only time I start being an asshole on here , I don't make a habbit of attacking other peoples posts on here . I have used air chisels from behind to try knock the rust loose , time consuming and not the most effective . The torch around it and a few cracks usually works
@prozanine If you have one that still doesn't come after the heat , that's when I found it best to zipcut the top of the hat off about 3/8" in from the face , tap tap and it all comes off . To most ppl it is a very easy job , until you come across one of these , I've had many ppl try do it themselves and then call me totally lost at what holds the rotor on . Next one I come across I will make a video . The simplest of jobs around here turn into nightmares due to corrosion .
@prozanine and one other thing , leave a lug nut loose on there and you won't inadvertantly take someone's head off when you show it who's boss with your dead blow
Wheels stick to hubs when service schedules are not adhered to. Corrosion between the wheel and hub can take a long time to free off. I loosen all the wheel nuts and drive round our forecourt site. It's off road, and no danger to the vehicle or other traffic. Wheels should be removed during a service and the mating face greased. If it's impossible to shift, we have to hammer the wheels off. Also, brake discs (rotors to you guys) corrode up and swell behind the hub. Hammer and chisel for the win.
Does anyone know what happens when you bolt an aluminum wheel to a steel hub/rotor and put it through countless hot/cold cycles? It does not come off for shit. I have had cars where even the sledge won't get a wheel off and you need to break out the Oxy-Acetylene torch to heat the hub enough to force the wheel off. Not fake, but definitely should not be hitting the face of the rim with a sledge.
Experience. It wasn't a guessing statement. It's pure fact and I've had it happen. Wheels do get stuck more often then you think. Expecially aluminum wheels when people are really hard on the brakes. Go ask any mechanic and they will say the same thing. Your argument is invalid.
@blown262 : I am a machanic, also work as a fleet machanic , I have never seen any type of wheel get so called stuck, not like this guy is beating on it. drums now thats another story.
@fedorauser1003 doesnt matter, the back of the wheel, and hub could have been corroded to the point where it doesnt want to come off. But it did sound like this idiot was hitting the wheel and not the tire.
@fedorauser1003 It was very excessive but sometimes the wheel gets stuck to the disc flange and this but more subtle is the only way to free the wheel off. It can take ages too : (
@21310085abc : your about as desperate as they come. doctors mispell all the time, so I take it, that would make them a worse doctor? are we forgetting, its called the world wide web for a reason.
@kc2jga its not fake, its dumb but tires do get this stuck especially if people who dont maintain their car regularly bring their cars in for work that involves removing a tire
Hit it, hit it, hit it again.. I'll get it off, bring me the torch and a welder, we'll have you some new tires on in a jiff.. lol it helps if the car isnt sitting on the wheel you're taking off..
yes i would actually, SOMETIMES the wheel gets corroded onto the hub so bad you actually have to do this to get it off, but its only aluminum rims onto a steel hub that reacts in that way, BUT he should have had a peice of wood on it so he isnt damaging the whreel
@thizguy94 Actually you should hit it from the back with a copper mallet which would not damage the alloy wheel. Hitting it from the front like that, which seems to be doing damage from the sound if it, is a stupid idea. I bet that wheel won't balance properly any more.
@GBDannyUK yeah there is many ways to get them off, it all depends on what works for you, but clearly this guy is doing damage and yes this guy will have balancing issues. SOMETIMES if the wheel is stuck too bad, i loose the lug nuts so they are just before snug, and drive around the parking lot making lots of turns at low speeds. and sometimes it take just a good kick or punch on the tire..
ive seen it so bad where you have to keep the lug nuts on but not tight and drive the car around the parking lot to get the damn wheel un stuck from the hub. IT aint like he is hitting it and not un screwing it, he is getting the job done, if he can hit it right and not hit the rim or damage the tire(i doubt) he should be good. Best way to do it is hit the back or kick the back
You better NOT put anti seize on those lug studs. Torque specs for lug nuts are dry torque only. You risk over torquing the lugs on the studs which break them and warp the wheel. If the studs are that rusty, replace them.
@cptspinach Than you would just reduce the torque rating by about 10%. Not all torque specs are dry, its actually extremely beneficial to use anti seize on wheel studs or bolts too. Id even put a layer of anti seize on the mating surface between the rotor and the wheel.
@elcko123 Though the 10% reduced torque is true, it's only true for the initial torque. It's wise to hit each lug nut about 3 times with a torque wrench to get it close. Now, if you used some of that torquing lube that ARP manufactures, you'll hit the torque spec right on the mark on the first try. As for the rotor and the wheel, that's always a good idea. I put some on the back of brake pads as well where they mate with the caliper, which helps reduce the squeal caused by some new brake pads.
hitting from the inside works better, and u gotta be careful with alloy mags u will bust em and crack them. This dude is doing ape shit straight onto the wheel, they aint steel mate hit the fucking tire
@Paiste402 hittting the tyre will only result in a possible bulge on the sidewall in the future, you should use a copper/hyde hammer and hit the inner part of the rim using the hyde part
Always happens to me. But hit from the back not the front. I've had to cut them off before.

Not fake, I've seen wheels get stuck to cars and had a sledge hammer and a block of wood not even budge it.
BallsInYourJawsBitch 3 months ago
ITS FAKE! Tire doesn't even move when hit with that sledge.
kc2jga 3 months ago
@kc2jga its not fake... aluminum rims get stuck like this all the time... but he should be hitting it from the back...
Spike83Z 3 months ago
@kc2jga its not fake, its dumb but tires do get this stuck especially if people who dont maintain their car regularly bring their cars in for work that involves removing a tire
reap62 3 months ago
@kc2jga why would this be fake think about it what is the point of faking this video?
FerociousSoldier 3 months ago
shit where was this guy trained as a mechanic?
at the UFC?
chris03653837 3 months ago
well maybe the locking nut is fucked up as the pugs and citroens have the shitest ones ever and he had to beast the wheel off.

idiot there are ways to getting a seized wheel off a hub without damaging the wheel!

If my Oz Futuras were hammered like that I would burn that mofos house (if he even had one).

hammers fix everything
woohooskater 4 months ago
wow... overkill!! haha just take off the nuts and give the tire a swift boot! ahah
hartattack940 4 months ago
Hit it, hit it, hit it again.. I'll get it off, bring me the torch and a welder, we'll have you some new tires on in a jiff.. lol it helps if the car isnt sitting on the wheel you're taking off..
dmcgrathudt 4 months ago
yes i would actually, SOMETIMES the wheel gets corroded onto the hub so bad you actually have to do this to get it off, but its only aluminum rims onto a steel hub that reacts in that way, BUT he should have had a peice of wood on it so he isnt damaging the whreel
thizguy94 4 months ago
@thizguy94 Actually you should hit it from the back with a copper mallet which would not damage the alloy wheel. Hitting it from the front like that, which seems to be doing damage from the sound if it, is a stupid idea. I bet that wheel won't balance properly any more.
GBDannyUK 4 months ago
@GBDannyUK yeah there is many ways to get them off, it all depends on what works for you, but clearly this guy is doing damage and yes this guy will have balancing issues. SOMETIMES if the wheel is stuck too bad, i loose the lug nuts so they are just before snug, and drive around the parking lot making lots of turns at low speeds. and sometimes it take just a good kick or punch on the tire..
thizguy94 4 months ago
LOL Does he know that the wheel has lug nuts that have to be removed:)
gungadin36 4 months ago
ive seen it so bad where you have to keep the lug nuts on but not tight and drive the car around the parking lot to get the damn wheel un stuck from the hub. IT aint like he is hitting it and not un screwing it, he is getting the job done, if he can hit it right and not hit the rim or damage the tire(i doubt) he should be good. Best way to do it is hit the back or kick the back
lucasbmxMDK 4 months ago
@lucasbmxMDK but id never swing at a wheel like that cause your going to brake something less u are perfect.

You better NOT put anti seize on those lug studs. Torque specs for lug nuts are dry torque only. You risk over torquing the lugs on the studs which break them and warp the wheel. If the studs are that rusty, replace them.
cptspinach 5 months ago
@cptspinach Than you would just reduce the torque rating by about 10%. Not all torque specs are dry, its actually extremely beneficial to use anti seize on wheel studs or bolts too. Id even put a layer of anti seize on the mating surface between the rotor and the wheel.
elcko123 5 months ago
@elcko123 Though the 10% reduced torque is true, it's only true for the initial torque. It's wise to hit each lug nut about 3 times with a torque wrench to get it close. Now, if you used some of that torquing lube that ARP manufactures, you'll hit the torque spec right on the mark on the first try. As for the rotor and the wheel, that's always a good idea. I put some on the back of brake pads as well where they mate with the caliper, which helps reduce the squeal caused by some new brake pads.

KlasykaPolskiegoHH 5 months ago
We see a lot of swinging and sound effects, but was he really hitting the wheel?
If he was the alloy would have fragmented within the first few blows. I think this is fake.

hes only hammering a lock nut remover on

Fuckin alloy wheels always get seized on the hub...

he is probably there for a new tire anyway and some one forgot to put anti seize on the lug studs i do this daily feet work the best
tjr493 8 months ago
Maybe the caliper is stuck so the wheel is completly locked. And if so that is a good way to unlock the wheel

panzerducky 11 months ago
He is trying to break the hub seal... ive seen this a lot but there are tools for the job... this is lazy and damaging.
DaBluedude100 11 months ago
hitting from the inside works better, and u gotta be careful with alloy mags u will bust em and crack them. This dude is doing ape shit straight onto the wheel, they aint steel mate hit the fucking tire
Paiste402 1 year ago
@Paiste402 hittting the tyre will only result in a possible bulge on the sidewall in the future, you should use a copper/hyde hammer and hit the inner part of the rim using the hyde part
deviljamez 11 months ago
@deviljamez
I agree but smacking an alloy like that is just bad news
Paiste402 11 months ago
Over tourqed allow wheels are always suck a bitch to break off of the hub.
