Hmm...let us talk about fanaticism, because I think in the end it is something human, and not something caused by religions. Wherever you have corrupt rulers, who try to control the masses, there you have ignorant people who follow these rulers' lead. It is a political phenomenon, not a religious one per se. What I have to say to that, is that Muslims are obliged to stand up against unjust rulers, and when they don't, it is not because of the religion, rather out of ignorance of it. Rethink it.
I don't mind you not accepting me/us, it is God's acceptance that I seek, but nevertheless, us not being Orthodox Christians anymore, does not in any way make us less Greek, as being bein12theist does not make you any less Greek, or being Buddhist or Rei ki practicioner, or whatever. We are Greek because we come from Greek parents, and love Greece as our homeland.
I am Greek, and MUSLIM, so that REFUTES YOU! So I suggest you open your eyes to the TRUTH.

diimitra26ath, no one is really asking anyone to convert.. They are simply saying they exist & for you to get to know them! You people are all fools.. you should be proud of the fact how diverse your country is becoming! After all where did the idea of modern day democracy start? it does not suit the people of such a great nation to insult those who are also part of that nation based on the fact they are muslim!! go out and get to know these people! The biggest fear is the UNKOWN!!!!
...continued...there is a community of Cretan muslims in Lebanon who converted to islam a long time ago in Crete, they speak Cretan Greek and are very proud of their heritage- they consider themselves as Greek & fight hard to preserve their culture with their children-who are we to tell them they are not Greek? Are our egos so shallow? Was this the way of Christ to cause enmity and hatred between people? Us Greeks invented logic, maybe we should use it and think a little before we open our mouths.
Please read your history, No greeks muslim, jewish, catholic, protestant budist or whatever religion were taken from greece during the population exchange with turky. ONLY TURKS OR PEOPLE WHO IDENIFIED THEMSELVES AS TURKS LEFT GREECE. Who are these creten muslim. There are turks in the pondus region that listen to pontian music and some even speak pontian does that make them greeks who converted to islam. Turks were bought into greece to muslify the population because greeks would'nt convert.
Anothroskon: file mou, as a Greek orthodox christian I have to admit that you are wrong. We have to ask ourselves: before our ancestors converted to Christianity were they any less Greek because they worshipped Zeus etc? I have Greek-Jewish friends from Thessaloniki - are they any less Greek? They would be very angry if we suggested they were not Greek becuase they were not Orthodox - I have other friends who are Jehovas Witnesses etc who are also Greek - faith is not in our genes...continued...
British historian W. Alison Phillips, who wrote the history of the Greek revolution, noted in 1897: In the Morea shall no Turk be left. Nor in the whole wide world. Thus rang the song which, from mouth to mouth, announced the beginning of a war of extermination... Within three weeks of the outbreak of the revolt, not a Moslem was left, save those who had succeeded in escaping into the towns
As a muslim, perhaps you should engage in self-examination (or Muhasaba)-by the same extension of what you write above where may I ask are the Orthodox, Armenian,Catholic & Syriac christian communities of Turkey? Communities that lived there way b4 the Suljuks arrived and which should be protected as Dhimmis according to Sharia law?
Ask yourself this: when Umar ibn al-Khattāb took Jerusalem he refused to pray in the main church as he would fear it would be converted -did this occur in Turkey?
As a Greek and Orthodox Christian I must say that Islam is part of our history as much as Orthodoxy is a part of Islamic history and even in those lands today that are now Muslim states. If we are truly going to live side-by-side in peace we must be honest with each other. In honesty I have little confidence in Muslims wishing to bring Sharia Law in Greece. In turn, some Islamic countries prohibit Christianity. These have to be overcome before real peace can be explored.

greeks still associate islam with everything turkish and ottoman. they forget that arab countries suffered under ottoman rule too.
becoming muslim does not mean becoming turkish or arab. greeks forget that christianity was nurtured by arabs before any greek heard of it.
