Derivations of words or etymologies aren't brain science. EVERY dictionary (above a simple child's level) contains them for EVERY word as well encyclopedias.

There are many resources online, even Wikipedia articles often contain in depth information about the origins of words and there are many online dictionary with the information.

There are even some websites dedicated to this. Google "online etymology" to find some.

I use Wikipedia a lot but it can not be trusted because anyone can write in it without listing sources. I would caution the use of Wiki without other sources to refer to. I also have found dictionaries also to have incorrect information. OED seems to be the best source for most words. Online Etymology is lacking many words that we are using daily. Its difficult to find reliable information online. Even the people on the History Channel get it wrong.
