  • What are the prospects for seeing an aortic endarterectomy procedure?

  • Also, why is the superior thyroid dissected?

  • please tell me the music I am in LOVE with it!

  • what is the music?!

  • @AK410 H! The music is by a greek composer named Yorgos Kazantzis and the ttile is the Waltz of Utopia.

The superior thyroid artery is the first branch of external carotid artery and is necessary to be dissected and controlled usually with a double passed heavy silk suture. This has to be done when the carotid bifurcation is dissected, as the surgeon must clamp the external carotid artery at a higher level than this small branch.

  • I am a vascular surgeon from Shanghai China. The operation is cool. I like the eversion technique.

  • @pureassyrian1

What the fuck is pre-med meant to mean? Is it meant to mean you will be a future doctor (highly assumptive) or that you're not bright enough to make it into medical school (a statement of the obvious)?

  • Looks good, little shaky though it seems!

  • @pureassyrian1 Thank you.

If there is a total occlusion (100%) of the internal carotid artery there is no further danger of stroke from this carotid artery. Thus, there is no need for any intervention (either carotid endarterectomy or stenting) for this carotid artery. AL

  • The most dreadful complication of the procedure is stroke, although prevention of stroke is the main reason of performing this operation. However, the risk of perioperative stroke after carotid endarterectomy is usually not more than 3%. Compared to carotid angioplasty, carotid endarterectomy is safer in terms of perioperative stroke but has a higher rate of cranial nerves injury.

Good luck with your dar. I am sure everything will be fine!!

  • What is the risk of this procedure? What is the mortality rate? I'm concerned because my dad is going to have this surgery.....

  • @mastilop I had this done at end of Oct in Salisbury Hospital Wilts I had a 90% blockage in my artery. Very large scar from ear to middle of my neck, but it saved my life. Scar is almost invisible now.

  • Thank you! I'm scrubbing into one tomorrow and wanted to at least see what it looked like before I went in and got destroyed with pimping.

  • thanks 4 the vid

  • @romancegland No problem. Are you a vascular surgeon?

  • @amlazaris no im not.

im a 4th grade medical student.

ive read about carotid endarterectomy b4 without knowing the steps of this prosedure.

i know it is more advanced but its nice at least to see it once to have an idea about it.

  • très super ;)
