  • Strange, beautiful, vivid, it almost makes you feel as if your reading a book. I watched this film, and i can say that this preview does it no justice. The best part is by far the ending, my favorite:) "Shoot the kids make the mother watch, tell her if she can hold back her tears you'll stop..... I'm afraid she cry's a little to easily" lol brilliant!

Now some people may think its sick to laugh at such a scene, but you have to watch the film to understand. Cheers.

  • I've seen all Saw movies

    The August Underground movies

    Se7en

But this movie, was the most terrible movie I've ever seen! I almost puked and actually had to stop watching it when they were about to chain her (my cat became rather confused whilst I was roaming my apartment, crying and mumbling angry at the same time)

I laughed and smiled and gave God a high five during the ending, as he came down to watch it with me <3

Sara Pahlin should watch this movie

    Love, Tom Cruise

  • It seems to me that Lars Von Trier has a really visceral hatred of human beings. I can't say I blame him. Dogville is a sickening microcosm of the human race.

I rate it as the second best "people are fucking scum" film, after "O Lucky Man".

  • i will never forget this movie :D

  • Absolutely phenominal movie.

  • esta pelicula y dancer in the dark, LAS MEJORES DE LA HISTORIA!

  • Great movie. Would've been better if it ended with torturer first, then all the killing.

  • @karzan10 totally agree, cut off piece of piece of them...

  • My favourite film of all time (so far).

    Best line(s):

Grace's father: "Shoot the residents. Burn down the town"

Grace: "No… wait… there's a family with kids. … Shoot the kids first and make the mother watch"

  • im pretty sure the people hating on this movie are the same breed of human from the cunts in dogville living in denial

  • απο τις καλυτερες ταινιες...σαν να διαβαζεις βιβλιο

  • Best movie ending of all time!!!!!!

  • there are no goofs in this movie

  • THIS MOVIE MADE me fall in love with Danish cinematography, LARS'es world of ideas and his inspirations. He said so much in a short movie! I felt like it was his alternative NEWEST testament and the JUDGEMENT DAY in a MONUMENTAL, SYMBOLIC by content (as scenery was conventional for a great FOCUS on words and emotions). I felt deeply satisfied & fulfilled, I saw myself in Grace as she is the archetype of SON of God and the CHOSEN ONE as well as the NEWCOMER. The film is a METAPARABLE! genious<3

  • one of my favorite films :D

  • what the f@#$% is thit shit?

  • 3 hours that felt like 1

  • @viertro 3 hours that felt like 10000

  • dull as piss

  • @lllFUXlll ... No, you're not the only one. You called it right.

  • OMG it's booooring!!

  • @Bitten5270 I loathe Lars von Trier and his pretentious films.

  • @KellyGreen5555 Amen!

  • @Bitten5270 ... I agree ... really boring!

  • One of the worst films I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them. Legendary filmmaker Billy Wilder, in an interview, said that when you leave a film you should feel good about yourself, that you shouldn't feel like you're bad or mankind is bad, etc. That's the effect that this movie creates. You feel pretty lousy when it's over.

  • @MariaTheGreat But mankind is bad. It can be very beautiful, but it can also be very, very bad. Art is a reflection of life, and it needs to show both the good and bad aspects. If it didn't, it would be a lie. Some aspects of mankind should make you feel pretty lousy.

  • @DamaskButterflies ... I am very sure I don't need a lecture on what you think is the intrinsic nature of mankind. People are basically good (social personalities) and a very small percentage of people do anti-social things to TRY to prove to mankind that he's bad. So you can save your cheap, dime-store philosophy on me because you're wasting your words. I have conviction and won't be swayed on this point. Thanks just the same.

  • Very depressing movie, it made me feel anger when I saw her getting rapped, and when Tom got killed by her.

  • etsi einai to plirwsane oi malakes kala na pathoune.ektos apo ta paidia vevaia ekei ksenerwsa

  • This is an emotional rollercoaster. IF you can get into it, it wont let you go untill the bittersweet end.

  • I read this is Anders-Behring-Breivik favourite film

  • @234dragoman yes indeed its his vavourite film thats why he killed all this people in that island

  • le ponche

  • I experienced a whole array of emotions while watching this film, mostly anger/disgust. By the end of the film I came to hate every single person in Dogville and I was even more annoyed with Grace's stoic reaction to their ill treatment of her. However the last 10 minutes completely make up for everything that had happened leading up to that point. I've never been more happy to see carnage in my life, honestly. I actually watched the end twice because I felt it was so justified. Excellent movie.

  • @mstorey622 lol thats why i love lars von tier, he can make you believe that killing chideren infront of their mother is justified and yes the last mins i loved it and for a second i taught grace would forgive them but thankfully she didnt!

  • @mstorey622

    (spoiler)

About the carnage - you felt that, the death of a little baby infant is justified? How come?

  • @DragoonBG you totaly miss the point...

  • @DragoonBG I forgot about that part when I wrote that comment. No, that was something that I felt was unnecessary. I would've preferred it if she had, say, kept the baby and made a comment about how she was going to raise it to be a better person than the people of Dogville or maybe done away with the baby altogether? I mean it really wasn't like it was a "character."

  • norway killer

  • @Digijedi569 that is what i was thinking and this movie looks boring so people who watch boring shit are going out and killing

  • Lean nuestro reporte sobre el escándalo que relaciona involuntariamente a Lars Von Trier con el autor de la masacre de Oslo, y que incluye además detalles sobre su nueva película erótica, en nuestro sitio en español!

  • I got roped into watching Rabbit Hole starring Nicole Kidman with Wifey... Not gonna happen again!

  • this movie have really nothing in common with Oslo-madness

  • @ha3gman Yes it has, it was the nr 3 movie that possibly inspired mr Insanity (along with computergames)

During the killings he allso played some "death mass theme" from Lord of the rings in his ipod or whatever.

So he was clearly in to fiction.

  • @FreddoX1

LOL! Yes he was but I wont watch this movie because it looks like shit!

  • @drejtool Agreed. To much girly drama. I sort out my problems liek Brievik; Huge explosions and gunfights!

  • @FreddoX1 Breivik didn't have a huge gunfight. He opened fire on defenceless children.

  • @FreddoX1 you're such a piece of trash

  • @FreddoX1 Lars Von Trier understood Hitler, he said.

    Breivik understands von Trier.

  • @ShareTheSphere Breivik is a Zionist

  • @ShareTheSphere I think I (sort of) understand Hitler as well. That doesn’t mean I agree with him.

  • @drummerponsi You are quite a guy, understanding a psychopath massmurderer with possible schizophrenic and bipolar diorders.

  • @ShareTheSphere That's the point, no? You're giving some conditions that could determine the actions of that man. I wouldn't say I could understand fully from an introspective point of view; but with knowledge of the determing factors, I could get closer. I think Von Trier meant to say something like that.

  • i recommand to watch that movie at least twice and be prepared to accept the sad truth about human nature

  • this movie is soo sick

  • @lllFUXlll Im kinda the same.I thought it was kinda boring and very depressing but for me the ending was epic

  • The best finale's movie of the history!

  • What is name of the music from 0:23?

  • @gaborviolin Immediate Music - Between Two Worlds

  • @fr0st986 Thank you!

  • I don't know if I should feel bad cause I really liked the end... They all deserved it...

  • Can anyone tell me why the director chose to have no sets, no buildings or anything?

  • @ChandlerBing1993

We are talking about Lars von Trier, the guy who came up with the "dogme 95 manifesto"...

  • @link211211 I know who directed it. I was just wondering why he chose to do it that way. Was it so we would focus more on the characters?

  • As one filosofer Lazarev commented this movie: Don't give your pearls to pigs. Dont know the right word of this phrase from Bible

  • Hasn't anyone realized that the whole 'Nazi' thing was just a cynical joke? If anyone actually saw what he said at the festival, it was just an incredibly awkward, provocative joke(and as we know, Lars von Trier has a certain enjoyment in pissing the living hell of the sensitivities of other people). Get a hold of yourself, and try to take a bloody joke. xD

  • von trier is a fucking nazi...but this a great movie

  • @felipeheyden ... It's not a GREAT movie. It's an unusual movie.

  • just finished watching dogville, with no doubt one of the best films i ever seen in my life and certainly it's on my list of favourite films :)

  • this movie should had been nomitanted for best scenery XD

  • @krlos0061 ... lol ... most definitely!

  • whar is the song at 0.23 called?

  • The final scene is great, the whole movie can be slow, and the concept is difficult for some people, but I think this is a very good movie and obviously underrated

  • Habrá que verla.

  • crap movie fuck off lars von trier.you think you r a fucking artist you r just a fucking cunt.

  • such an amazing movie with so much substance underneath the minimalistic stage, despite of wich, I was so captivated by the story that I many times forgot it was a movie :) So great. I am thankful for the friend who recommended it. Oh yes, and Von Trier, Kidman and Bettany are awesome together :D

  • Cynical, misanthropic, laughable bullshit.

  • @Queeg3D THANK YOU!!!

    This movie is garbage.

  • @TheFreePisces Only one way to say that. You didn't get it.

  • @TheFreePisces

What was the matter with it, did you identify too closely with the Dogs?

  • Moral is "Quid pro quo".

  • one of the most underrated movies ever.

it should have been nominated for best picture

and Kidman gives one of her best performance here. (she did even better here than on rabbit hole)

  • One of my favorite movies but this trailer really sucks!

  • @rutgerkingpin

    Damn right.

  • The characters in this movie really need WWJD bracelets. 10/10

  • SLOW, VERY SLOW!

  • this movie sucks dude.

  • One of my favourite films

  • brilliant movie

  • @hotpirananna ... you ought to get out more often.

  • Damn, when "Antichrist" came out, Lars von Trair said He is the best Director!

Of course, i didn't believe it, but damn after started to study film i can say he is the greatest director...

And believe me, if this movie was made by an american director it would get lots of prices....

  • One of my favorite movies ever

  • Perfect movie.

  • you may call lars von trier a weirdo, but i'm sure his movies are the ones that impresses you the most.

  • I'm watching this rite now and it's kinda slow I have no idea were it's going

  • Sometimes Americans are not ready for this movies

  • @emilygames12 i think, this movie is not about americans - it is about people

  • They try to make the trailer look like it's any old film, they don't show the play-style stuff at all. Are they ashamed of what they have made?

  • Might be because the general audience won't see a movie with no set-pieces. "A play where everything is based on the actors' performances? Fuck that, I'm gonna go see Transformers." What a brain-dead culture you're fostering, America.

  • this trailer is such a shit.

  • I just watched this movie on DVD. I happen to "admire" this movie more than "like". I think it is a very brave movie but it's depressing and difficult to watch.

  • That's one of those kind of movies with an unexpected end. And these are the best movies in my opinion.

This is one of the best movies of the decade.

  • @isaacnwt

Somewhat unexpected, yet it provided so much closure. Cynical and brilliant film.

  • This trailer reveals too much of the story.

  • this is such a beautiful film and my father and i loved this film, unfortunately he passed away 3 years ago today, this film will always hold a place in my heart

  • @muffystjohn86 ...Enjoy your flick made by a Nazi

  • @stinky125 If your looking for a REAL Nazi look at Leni Riefenstahl's work.

  • Very unconventional, extremely intense, simply great.

  • i watched the movie but i didnt really understand it to be honest. it was very clever but i wasnt really there all the way!!! i am 13 so dont blame me i did think it was good though, just didnt get it.

  • If you haven't watched this movie, you are missing out on such a brilliant work of art!

  • this trailer has nothing to do with the astonishing movie and it's kinda sad...

  • man, I love von Trier's shooting style, he's one of the rare directors that can make digital-shooting a true art-form.

  • This film was sooo good, but sickening to watch! Nicole really sells it in this film, AMAZING PERFORMANCE! :D <3

  • I'd bang Nicole Kidman...Oww yeah !!

  • This film was painful to watch but I could not stop. That guy that claimed to love her and turned out to be a complete wimp. And the end left me sad.

It was not a happy film but gritty, earthy and brilliant.

  • i dont paul bettany, his performance makes the film uneven

  • The movie is so true... However, only God can judge evil actions. Being just, is not murdering them.. Especially the children! They murdered a baby... What wrong did it do?!?!?! The baby could have been taught differently.. Another thing, The gang was just a bully too... They hid behind "justice". So, even though a lot of you think it was brilliant.. It was greatly flawed..

  • She gets raped by virtually everyone in the town and actually has them all killed at the end when it turns out she's the daughter of a mob boss. The whole movie is filmed on a set that looks like a stage (intentionally). The End.

  • "People are the same all over"

  • @juliettttebaby what pc rock did you crawl out from under ?

  • Looks like a play.

  • This trailer is terrible. Nice try, American editors.

  • awesome movie a must to buy

  • awesome movie a must to buy

  • awesome movie

  • Personaly I didn't like the movie. In my opinion it was pointless.

  • when i watched this i was like wtf,an yet something was compelling me to keep watching, its so unusial watching a play as a movie, but i like the fact its something differnt,i appreciate it for what it is an for the fact it makes you use your imagination.very intresting an some great acting.

  • ps: you and lars von trier have something in common salvador. you're both full of yourselves. congrats.

  • and btw..for those americans who hate mexicans ....they are more smarter than you guys,,,not because they are born like that ..but because they are not brain washed

  • @salvadoraugustus

if you aren't fluent in any of the languages does it even count for anything?

  • @spoonergrind yes it does douche. Whats wrong with you? :S

  • more smarter??? Idiot.

  • more smarter?

  • if you think dogville is somehow some spectacular and well directed movie. you're trying to hard. you pretentious fucks. trailer pretty fucking misleading too. considering it fails to detail that the whole movie is like watching a play that's been shot on some shitty digital home video camera. lars von trier hasn't done anything good btw except for antichrist. it was disappointing and so is the pretentiousness of everyone that hailed it as spectacular.

  • @spoonergrind what's wrong with "watcing a play tha't been shot on some shitty home video camera"???

it's art! either u get it or not! special effects and all that sit dont necessarily make a good movie.it seems that salvadoraugustus is correct. it is a movie for smart ppl. its made in order to make you think and not to amuse you! stop thinking that superficially!

  • @spoonergrind Dude, Lars von Trier is a genius. He INVENTED the dogme genre. He and Peter Aalbæk Jensen build their own movie company (and it's now the largest in scandinavia). His film often has a deeper meaning, and a lot of them prove that you can make a good movie under shitty circumstances. Now maybe YOU don't like his movies, but they're still good :b

  • One of the most disturbing yet thought provoking films I have ever seen. Despite its tendencies to envoke criticism and debate, there is much to be learned through a respectful discussion.

  • Great movie, but not his best in my opinion. I liked Dancer in the Dark and The Idiots better, but it takes on to know one, i suppose.

  • The best of films

  • Georgia O'Keefe, New Mexico, 1975

  • very good movie...but not for everybody...if u are dumb,..dont watch it......and there is part 2..Mandeley from 2005..same director,....

  • @salvadoraugustus

"if u are dumb,..dont watch it"

salvador you're a pretentious fuck who btw has terrible grammar so "u are dumb". it's a shitty play recorded on a home video camera not a film. get over it.

  • @spoonergrind sorry my grammar...english is my third language ,,,,but if u are smart than me..maybe you want to speak in french or italian......but this is less important ...i was talking about movie...and i made my self clear ...this is a good movie for smart people....sorry that u did not get it

  • Probably one of the film I ever seen

  • :D good statement though

  • You accidentally the adjective.

  • hahaha

  • lmao

  • Oh no, I ol'd.

  • You can paint a ugly painting of USA, China, Africa and even little Denmark, so complainging about his view at USA makes you as fragile as him. You have to admit that some of his movies are quit interesting.

  • Reasons why I like this film:

1 - It is good art.

  • reasons I don't like you:

    1. You are gay

    2. you suck

  • Very mature and well thought out comeback! I can tell you appreciate the fine arts and study real hard in school :-D

  • reasons i like you:

    1. your point 1 and 2

    2. your point 1 and 2

    ;)
