Strange, beautiful, vivid, it almost makes you feel as if your reading a book. I watched this film, and i can say that this preview does it no justice. The best part is by far the ending, my favorite:) "Shoot the kids make the mother watch, tell her if she can hold back her tears you'll stop..... I'm afraid she cry's a little to easily" lol brilliant!
Now some people may think its sick to laugh at such a scene, but you have to watch the film to understand. Cheers.

It seems to me that Lars Von Trier has a really visceral hatred of human beings. I can't say I blame him. Dogville is a sickening microcosm of the human race.

THIS MOVIE MADE me fall in love with Danish cinematography, LARS'es world of ideas and his inspirations. He said so much in a short movie! I felt like it was his alternative NEWEST testament and the JUDGEMENT DAY in a MONUMENTAL, SYMBOLIC by content (as scenery was conventional for a great FOCUS on words and emotions). I felt deeply satisfied & fulfilled, I saw myself in Grace as she is the archetype of SON of God and the CHOSEN ONE as well as the NEWCOMER. The film is a METAPARABLE! genious<3

Legendary filmmaker Billy Wilder, in an interview, said that when you leave a film you should feel good about yourself, that you shouldn't feel like you're bad or mankind is bad, etc. That's the effect that this movie creates. I experienced a whole array of emotions while watching this film, mostly anger/disgust. I wouldn't say I could understand fully from an introspective point of view; but with knowledge of the determing factors, I could get closer. I think Von Trier meant to say something like that.

The final scene is great, the whole movie can be slow, and the concept is difficult for some people, but I think this is a very good movie and obviously underrated

Reasons I don't like Lars Von Trier:
1 - He is pretentious and considers himself to be the greatest director of all time.
2 - He left his pregnant wife to have an affair and marry their babysitter.
3 - He portrays every class in American society under a negative light; City people are corrupt, gangsters and cruel and the rural people are seen as idiots, poor, racist, sexist, rapists.
4 - He complains and rants and makes jokes about America all the time, yet he refuses to come here.

This movie isn't a joke. It's Euro propaganda. America is not a continent, it's two continents, North America and South America, so don't play stupid, okay? You know exactly what I meant. Have you ever been to America? The meaning behind it is obvious. The guy doesn't like the U.S., from the whole plot to the end credits. I just watched this movie on DVD. I happen to "admire" this movie more than "like". I think it is a very brave movie but it's depressing and difficult to watch.

This film was painful to watch but I could not stop. That guy that claimed to love her and turned out to be a complete wimp. And the end left me sad.
It was not a happy film but gritty, earthy and brilliant.

The movie is so true... However, only God can judge evil actions. Being just, is not murdering them.. Especially the children! They murdered a baby... What wrong did it do?!?!?! The baby could have been taught differently.. Another thing, The gang was just a bully too... They hid behind "justice". So, even though a lot of you think it was brilliant.. It was greatly flawed..

She gets raped by virtually everyone in the town and actually has them all killed at the end when it turns out she's the daughter of a mob boss. The whole movie is filmed on a set that looks like a stage (intentionally). The End.

if you think dogville is somehow some spectacular and well directed movie. you're trying to hard. you pretentious fucks. trailer pretty fucking misleading too. considering it fails to detail that the whole movie is like watching a play that's been shot on some shitty digital home video camera. lars von trier hasn't done anything good btw except for antichrist. it was disappointing and so is the pretentiousness of everyone that hailed it as spectacular.

@spoonergrind Dude, Lars von Trier is a genius. He INVENTED the dogme genre. He and Peter Aalbæk Jensen build their own movie company (and it's now the largest in scandinavia). His film often has a deeper meaning, and a lot of them prove that you can make a good movie under shitty circumstances. Now maybe YOU don't like his movies, but they're still good :b

1 - He is pretentious and considers himself to be the greatest director of all time.
2 - He left his pregnant wife to have an affair and marry their babysitter.
3 - He portrays every class in American society under a negative light; City people are corrupt, gangsters and cruel and the rural people are seen as idiots, poor, racist, sexist, rapists.
4 - He complains and rants and makes jokes about America all the time, yet he refuses to come here.

This movie isn't a joke. It's Euro propaganda. America is not a continent, it's two continents, North America and South America, so don't play stupid, okay? You know exactly what I meant. Have you ever been to America? The meaning behind it is obvious. The guy doesn't like the U.S., from the whole plot to the end credits. He hated it in Dancer in the Dark and Mandeley and most of the shit he puts in his films. I.E. the slave owners from Mandeley.
