  • I think everyone should just self-identify and determine that they are "Indian" , Indigenous, or Aboriginal and there wouldn't be anymore problem about ''blood quantum". Just self declare like all these people are proposing.

  • 100% full checking in!

  • About 95 million Native Americans were killed.

  • @thedogrukonus yeah but stop bringing up the past man im native to we are never going to move forward if we dont forgive.most of my friends are white and they love me for who i am not like it 1492 its 2011.

  • I am Mohawk/Cherokee and damned proud of it! I've even learned both languages ALL ON MY OWN. To my Mohawk friends, I am called Akwekhserario. To my Cherokee friends, I am Uwohilatlitigv. Native pride for all those who share our blood!

  • This is a tough issue I think. I'm half blooded, so I guess I sit right on top of that divide. I agree that we shouldn't have to be classified like pedigree dogs, or prove to ANYONE what we know to be true in our hearts, but how then do you keep all those leechers away? At least in my case, I know there to be tons of, well, white people cluttering up my rez & ancestral lands trying to freeload off the government and say they're something they're not.

  • Alle my excuses but an indian is what it is he in his heart and if he acts as such as they are half-blood or not. Your calculations are ridiculous and I am myself a half-blood but I don't know sincerly if the roots of an Indian calculations or the rate of red and white blood cells. Frankly!

  • "1 oz. of native blood", "i think im less than 50%"

  • As my Tk'emlups uncles say "Either you are, or ya aint!"

  • Great, another fucking film to make us all feel like helpless victims... people should be encouraged to grow beyond a victim perspective... a century of abuse and no healing allowed: just more of this to keep the wounds wet. How much internal corruption are these people going to take until they decide, for themselves, that they will change their own culture? Families and communities are broken and no one can fix them but the people in them. No amount of money will fix what is broken!

  • I am mixed race from Indian and yet I am Indian. None of this bullshit.

  • I think we shouldn't exclude people based on how they look or any form of blood quantum but we should encourage our children and relatives to look for other indigenous partners. Instead of just hanging around non-natives (sending our kids to private schools etc) we can actually be part of our own culture, visit other communities, attend native events and be involved in our own issues. This way, we're more likely to meet someone, whatever nation they might be.

  • i agree

  • This film is important because it opens up a much needed discussion, or it brings the discussion to a wider audience. Great job Tracey!!!!!

  • It used to be a special feeling to be counted among the special few to be able to live on a reserve and be a part of a special people, and some wanted no part of it and married out with other races and moved away to live in cities, sometimes far away. There is so much more u have to know to understand why we are at this place now.The government of course is instrumental and engineered this many years ago and if they can wait a little longer we will assimilate ourselves, the way we are marrying out.

  • These are the new people spoken of in the Seven Fires prophecy of the anishinabe. Not white not native something new. I am anishinabe, and they are right, peace and love!!

  • The last guy is 100 Percent HOT!! XX

  • Basically we are all full blood since we all come from the same place.. earth.

  • @maevista

    good and I approuved.

  • To put some perspective on this... I am part Mohawk & Seneca but I am all Native in my thinking and acting. Respect is due to all People.

In light of blood percentage, I believe it should be in place for benefits, not for how Native you are. I've seen people with no obvious Native blood that do more than some full blooded Natives.

To be truthfull we are ALL part Native, it is how you perceive and act that make you Full Native.

To all the First People and their family PEACE!

    Ohkwa:ri'

  • I most agree, I am fullblooded, from head to toe, native aboriginal, indeginous, or whatever you call it. An everything traditional is kept alive in my family for the last 6 generations, My great farthers Farther said, People will come from all over the world to live on our land, Because it is safe. People will respect us for who we are, an yet some will not, but believing in your own tradition will never be lost! But he said it all in Cree!

  • Your grandfather was right. On what kind of scale and when we don't know. People of all lands are starting to see the bigger picture and it isn't all money, oil and land in the majority of minds; it is Mother Earth and our survival.

Kind of ironic that the Rat Race needs to show imminant danger of ceasing for all to think of a different way!

Thanks for your comment and insight, the Cree land is where I live!

    Ohkwa:ri'

  • i agree im mohawk and i think these rules are redicilous

  • she:kon jaredfish1

  • @IamMohawk She:kon! im from Wahta Mohawk Territory in Ontario! nice to see a Mohawk brother or sister!

  • i kinda like how tribes use how much blood you are for benefits...ya see many blue eyes blond hair gettin more benefits then full bloods so wuts fair?

  • this video kicks ass, really cool video, I am voting awesome!

  • To:

    The real critique -

OMG this world would still be like new- "If the English had been thrown out on the azz'z""

  • Well probably most of the people in the world are half breeds then :-)

  • I am looking forward to seeing the entire movie, thank you for posting this. I had the honor to have my short film "Takuskanskan" in the Montreal First Peoples Festival last year. I saw this film listed on the program and was interested to see it. but i did not attend the festival. i will check you out on the web!

    Wopila,

    denise giago

  • I don't think its stupid. Each tribe dictates how they go by enrollment and what their blood quantum requirements are. What is depressing to me is that there are many Natives FBIs included that have no status.

  • Mohawks betrayed the best chance the Indians had to throw the English out of New England. Its on the new PBS series We WIll Remain. I wonder how the Mohawks feel about that...If the English had been thrown out, the US would never have happened

  • Saying who's of what people by "blood", is stupid, racist & imposed on us by conquerors, to take advantage of inevitable race mixing, when 2 peoples meet, so as to divide us, so we can't resist our manipulators. I'm Mexica(Mexican or Aztec) w/ 1/4, or more, Yoeme( Yaqui) blood, which is related, so I embrace it. I've also a little European blood, which we had nothing to do w/ for generations, & know nothing about. I'm Mexica, no matter how much alien bloodlines get grafted to our family tree!

  • Tlazocamati, for sharing this w/ me, sister anen87 !

  • this kinda remind me off when ppl speak of happa's

  • it's not about shame. It's about belonging. And it's not about discrimination, it's about their OWN people excluding their OWN people based on their blood quantum. In other words, if you won't have enough "native" blood then you don't belong to their band. You're not native enough to live on their reservation. And FYI...discrimination against whites will never die...they stole the land, gave them small pox blankets to kill them off and raped their woman to breed them out! It doesn't die.

  • thats great and all...but like i seen the movie and the guy at the end says that he doesnt want white people in his community taking services from natives?...thats the basis of the attitudes in kahnawake....watch the frigggen movie. and FYI as long as discrimination against whites is alive so will discrimination against natives

  • I AM IN THE FRIGGEN MOVIE!!!!!!!.....THIS IS THE LIFE I LIVE EACH AND EVERYDAY!!!!! It's all around me 24/7 and before you judge someone try to gain a little more insight on the subject. I was trying to CLARIFY it for you, not antagonise....CLEARY you're racist against natvie people

  • thats great that ur in the movie congrats really. I watched the movie and Im not judging I stated wut he said...and how does it make me racist if i say that discriminating against white people of people who are part white is wrong?

  • you offended me when you generalised Kahnawake by making that statement based on ONE man's opinion. When one guy says he's opinion he does not speak for an entire nation. I don't support his comments and I live in Kahnawake. There are actual human beings here with their own opinions and their own statements, but people LIKE YOU think if one person feels a certain way then they all do....I will not respond to your petty comments anymore. Peace.

  • "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that" (Martin Luther King Jr.)

  • " I believe it's just another obstacle, so NATIVE'S, not half breeds, nor mixed, Cannot reach the full potential. How can one judge another by there skin colour, or one's nationality. It went from taking indian land and placing us into reserves. From one factor after another, the residential Apology. Of course there's going to be racists/racist comments about anything! Yet there's alot more to be done, By doing what you have to do inorder to succeed for YOURSELF.

  • Is it really that shameful to be white?..Are white people really that disgusting?...The government and white people are two COMPLETELY different things. If First Nations want racism to stop, we need to A) allow all natives (Half white or w/e) into our communities

    B) Stop discriminating against whites...it only contributes to the problem beacuse it makes ppl defensive and want to close off

  • i met the filmmaker of this.... she was very smart, hard-working, nice woman. I wish her the best

  • I think all ancestors are important . Do to

the fact my grandmother was from New York

I would like to find out about any natives

in my tree.I am not interested in money.

I am interested in connecting with my relations. Thanks to anybody willing to

    help. S

  • My father was "white" my mother native. Both were dark. I came out as the only fair-skinned person in my family but the most traditional. My heart beats with my mother's people.

  • 100% Right Here...My Co Host Is Half

  • check it out though. when there was no benifits for us ppl denied there heritage. And now that theres something to be gained greedy ppl want something that in reality they don't support. fuck off

  • lol @ 110%
