I believe The Dark Knight is an allegory of The Presidency of George W. Bush.
In the begining Batman is beloved by the public, and than shit hits the fan when a terrorist by the name Joker starts killing people and blowing shit up. Batman is having a hard time finding the Joker, the public turns on him, wanting him to resign, Batman decides to be the outcast and do what's right, and uses illegal surveliance technology to defeat the bad guy.
@walmartpimp2 yeah, you're probably right, the only thing is that one is fiction and the other is scary fact, george bush ran the presidency like a popularity contest
When President Bush was re-elected, he received more votes then ANY President in history at that time. A double victory, overthrowing both the Taliban regime and defeating Saddam Hussein's totalitarian Baathist regime. And then, victory at the ballot box also. How many presidents can claim to leading us to triumph over two barbaric terrorist regimes? Not many. God bless President Bush.
President Bush did more for Africa, and to fight AIDS in Africa then any president or human being in American history, to the tune of billions and billions of dollars. Bono of U2 has said that thanks to America's help, thousands of Africans owe their lives to America. That was cool when Bono met with President Bush about this. I hope that people in Africa know we care about them the way President Bush did.

@thebigfuzzer Absolutely! I think that Stone takes great pains to establish that Bush was not necessarily a bad man, just a bad president. I think it shows that he very badly wanted to do well and make the world a better place, but he simply wasn't equipped to do so. As well, he was surrounded by individuals who soon found that they could manipulate and take advantage of him, and they played him like a fiddle. He's certainly not beyond reproach by any means, but he's not evil, either.
@34ptruth34 I think it's interesting too to consider how different Presidents delegate responsibility within their administration. @Coachmaster I am partial to Bush Senior, but I give respect to George junior where it is deserved. They are both veterans of the United States Military (US Navy [Sr.] and US Air Force [Jr.]), which makes them more deserving of presidential office than Clinton or Obama.

Only time will tell.
Oh yeah sorry i forgot that the Americans are the saviors i do apologize for that. Who are you planning to send into your new war? Flash or Batman? Don't send wonder woman because she could have problems in there ;) Read some history kid before you can talk. Bush two times president? Just ignorants ;)
French Revolution rebuild my country, Roman Empire rebuild my country and Etruscan rebuild my country just to mention the last 2000 years. That's more history that what Vegas or Hollywood could ever teach you. After the second world war, European countries have paid and more than repaid any debt with America, if you don't trust my words, just use wikipedia. I'm not trying to point out which part of the world is better, i just declare a fact that Usa has a lot,lot to learn, child ignorance ;)
@johngl70 : you have to remember, many Americans still question if G.W. Bush even really won his first term....the country was split right down the middle...it's not like he won by a huge margin.....by his second term...many Americans were not willing to "change horses in mid stream" after the 911 attack. I firmly believe He would not have won a 2nd term had the 911 attack not happened on his watch
@inkey2: Finally a comment worth to read coming from a native. I know that as a fact but still, the death of 50.000 people doesn't allow a nation to destroy half of the other part of the world. Again, America needs to learn from the mistakes the are doing. Hopefully we won't see any more cruelty coming from a superior country or a mad man, being elected twice. Thank you for your comment.
@johngl70 : I am curious....I'd like to ask you a question....do you think it would be acceptable (or wise) for all middle eastern countries to be allowed develop "atomic weapons"? After all, the USA has not used them in 64 years. If all the Arab countries were to have such weapons I fear they would not be as restrictive in the use of them as the USA has been.
I think this is not the right place to write about that. Email will be better in that case. However, as my country is also involved in the Nato coalition my point of view counts as yours. Remember that the media is the one showing you the criteria that the western world has against nuclear development. The Usa has not used the nuclear attack in 64 years but the middle east has never used it at all, always stick to the facts even thought they can be hard. I will send you a message with my mail. J
Yes i would, i am not trying to start a fight, again, it is a massive fact the dumbness of America dealing with other countries or solving it's national premises. Just take a deep look. Bitch boi? Is it a word? Means that many women are around me? Well, thanks Obamahater, i see that you are a bit of a brain, aren't you.. Cheers mate.
How can i fuck myself? I would assume that if you use that word means that you have tried that already. Could you please show us, maybe with a youtube video? Ask any member of your family to hold the camera,i am sure someone will have the pleasure. Cheerio....
Its really nice to see there are other people out there who see past the cruel, liberal media that has demonized W. Bush, and his family. Thank you to everyone who stuck by Bush! There are some sane people in the world :)
Obama has now adopted ALL of Bush's national security policies - which proves that Bush was right all along. God bless W. He kept us safe for 7 years.
That's funny I didn't know the George Bush worked airport security during the day of 9/11. Also how is overthrowing a tyrant and bringing democracy to iraq fucking it up?
Becuz here is a guy who was critisized for about 5-6 yrs non-stop and not only for his policies but the typical liberal personal attacks. And when he came Home it was like, he felt at peace you could see it in his eyes that he was TRUELY HOME and was vindicated somewhat and yes not everything popular is right, Adolph Hitler was one of the most popular leaders in World History, loved by all of Germany as it's savior..he was also one of the most Evil men in World History, but liberals dont c that
THANK YOU walmartpimp2, you are dead on 100% CORRECT about President Bush!!! I Pray that History will judge him kindly, not to many new networks covered this but the day of Obama's Inaguration when W flew back to Midland, TEXAS for a Welcome Home Party he was greeted a Heroes Welcome and gave a speech saying that he wanted everyone to know, EVERYTHING he did, he did not for himself or personal gain or popularity but becuz he felf in his heart it was right!!! I felt really good for him!!

Whoa, RAMBO!!! What an educated obseravation filled with the insight of a PhD!!! You forgot the other chickenshit Goddamn line: "Bush was the worst President in history."
Or the chant Nanny Nanny Boo Boo Ya Ya-Fucking-HOO!!! as Bush left in the chopper??? Step on up to the plate there, RAMBO, and ELABORATE! Step right up, son! Spread the word! We all want to hear more!!! "Bush Sucks." Sounds like a Goddamn 16-year old...let's hear some REAL juice...BRING IT ON, BROTHER!
geez I saw pictures of Laura when she was young and she looked much cuter than that actress. there are plenty of cute women. they couldn't find anybody better?
I think this movie is brilliant. The point is to show Bush the human being. Whether you like him or not, he is a real man with a real story. Anybody who thinks this movie is trying to make Bush look good has bought in to the trend of treating public figures as inhuman caricatures. An attempt to get to the real identity of Bush ruins that illusion and makes some people uncomfortable. Bush is human, and personally I think he has an extremely fascinating story, whether I agree with him or snot.
I completely agree with you, Bush is a human being, with feelings, and ambitions, and insecurities, and morals like anyone else. I loved W, and as soon as it comes on Blu Ray, I will be the firs to get it. W is a very charming and enlightening movie.
Show some god damn respect for The President!!! You don't know what it's like to lead so many. You don't know what it's like to have the burden of the world on your shoulders. You don't know what it's like to walk a mile in his shoes. I've been to Iraq, I've seen the oppression Suddam has inflicted on his people, and even though Iraq had no WmD Suddam had to be stopped. And now that he's gone, freedom must be maintained until the people of Iraq can sustain themselves.
@KillMeNow1990 I completely agree. I have loved Stone's work since I first saw The Doors when I was little. Although I dont agree with his politics, I can fully say that if it were anyone to tell the story of the former President, let it be Oliver Stone. With his masterpieces like JFK and Nixon, He told the story of W quite awesomely!! I believe the movie came out, Too Soon, but "W" cleared the way to show Bush as a true meaning, other than what those liberals portrayed him in the media
@KillMeNow1990 I totally agree. It's not just about his flaws or his good side, but it's about just a guy born with the circumstances of a perfectionist dad, being in the shadow of his brother, and finding his true self in something (politics) where he can finally do something right (after screwing up other stuff). Kinda like the story of many of our ordinary lives and the stuff we face everyday... except that the stuff Bush faced is at a high level of society.
@TaintedFaith88 Well, if that were the case, he would have apologized. Instead, he stuck to his guns, and sacrificed his dignity. He gave us the freedom to mock him everyday. However, compared to Obama, this man got things done, and that is what I appreciate about him.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this should be a movie about how bush is a shitty president..not some flick making him look good. his ass has alot of fault why this country is the way it is rite now.
ok i dont think so.. he went to Yale and then got an MBA from Harvard, with better grades than Al Gore... he is an intelligent person who just happens to have a twangy southern accent.
Yeah. I think he's reasonably intelligent. You'd just never know it to hear the way the guy talks, but you can't be a complete moron and become President.
Yes. Bush bashing is so boring and cliche. He did get rid of Saddam Hussein, and I believe he was put in an impossible situation after 9-11. The people wanted blood. He gave it to them, and then the people turned on him.
I agree. The people turned because they didn't realize there was more to a war than a nice and tidy incursion that would take maybe a couple years. He did make the mistake of hiring some in his administration. That mistake prolonged the war and killed public support.
The hoi polloi needs to be instantly gratified, or else they become fickle and cynical. George W Bush did more good for the world, than most people do. I believe history will judge him kindly. B-O-
He was criticized unfairly. After 9-11 EVERYBODY wanted to kill someone. He gave them what they wanted, and did what needed to be done. Unfortunately our society is based on instant gratification has trouble seeing things through.
What's popular isn't always right, and what's right isn't always popular. Abraham Lincoln wasn't a very popular President when he was in office. People hated and despised him. And now he's regarded as one the greatest men to have walked the Earth.
Lincoln knew that people didn't agree with his actions, but he did them anyway. He saw the big picture, when no one else could. I believe there's a big picture that at the time only George Bush was able to see, And he acted accordingly.
Thank you, I am an Army Veteran an an OIF veteran and I agree with you 100%. As much as I hated the Middle East I feel we belonged there, regardless whether there was no WMD or not. Suddam needed to be overthrown, and Iraq needed democracy.
Hey, I am a Canadian veteran of Afghanistan. I know how you feel. Most people in our society don't see the good we do, as the fighting is what the media focuses on.
I completely agree. Regardless of whether it's for oil or not, the fact is Iraqi people was under a facist dictatorship before and they were liberated by Bush. These are facts that liberals tend to turn a blind eye on.
At first, I was inclined to write off Karl Rove's criticisms of this movie as "fantasy," given that Rove lies worse than Bush Republicans govern. But having seen this clip, I now agree - This movie is implausible. George W Bush cited a book and its author on its own. I mean, COME ON, everybody knows that he's an illiterate dyslexic retard of a chimpanzee! Shame on you, Oliver Stone, for trying to attribute qualities to an American President where none in fact (in this case, literacy) exist.
Excellent point, virgileco. But I find it doubtful that a semiliterate, drunken retard like Bush would even know the title/author, to be able to lie about reading the book. All part of the massive dumbing down of the Republican party that's been steadily happening over the past 8 years.
I don't think thats fair to say. With much respect, Bush did make lot of mistakes but to call him semi-illiterate or a drunken-retard isn't hardly reasonable. Also, with the "dumbing down" of the republican party, Karl Rove may be the most ingenious and brilliant political adviser of our time and Condoleezza Rice (spell check?) was a professor in Staford, the Provost of Stanford, and the second woman after the Clinton administration to become Secretary of State. Oh, and Cheney can shoot people.
In the absence of personal acquaintance w/Bush, I have to rely on his track record and info in the public domain. He routinely mispronounces words, stumbles on his sentences, gets facts twisted and has obvious problems thinking even remotely quickly on the fly (witness the 04 Presidential debates). So he is definitely sub-standard in smarts, even more so when compared against any other post-WWII US President (with the possible exception of Ford, and he was a historical accident).
On your second point, when I discuss the dumbing down of the GOP, I'm principally talking about the voters the GOP has decided to pander to and make its base over the decades (and especially the past 8 years, courtesy of Rove/Cheney): Middle American, lower middle class subprime trailer-dwelling Jesus-freak swine who think Sarah Palin is smart and will vote for anything with a flag, a gun, and a good war story.
Again, 1) this is all personal bias and no textual/proven information. 2) no matter how much daddy pays for you, Bush still got out of Yale with acceptable GPA's. 3)The pandering and shift of Republican voters towards after Clinton just proves Rove's competence in the political scene against strong Democratic opposition. 4) You just admitted on basing your information on public domain which we all know is easily thwarted. im not a republican, im an anit-idiot.
Anti-idiot? You sure sound like a typical Bush retard. 1) if you believe Bush routinely sounds intelligent and articulate - even in right-wing media outlets - then you are truly an imbecile yourself. 2) Legacy kids from prominent families who get into any Ivy League are going to pass. Period. 3) I don't dispute that Rove is smart - My point is that his strategy involves dumbing down the GOP by attracting redstate lower middle class buffoons, such as you, who then befoul the party's platform.
haha sorry if i sound like a "typical Bush retard" but i lived in Cali all my life and now i am currently going to Calvin College in Michigan. You sound like an angry 14 year old (sounds like only) who just got a little offended because i said idiot-free (i never meant to call YOU an idiot). i never said Bush was articulate by any means (read them all) and dude, any kids rich enough WILL pass but they need to at least take the requisites for high school and College. Don't reply out of anger :).
Either Brolin isnt playing 'W' correctly or Bush is (or was) alot more charismatic in private. Of course, 'W' clearly had that 'intoxicated' charisma going on in this scene...and obviously he hasnt taken a drink in a pretty long time. So maybe he was just charismatic when on the booze.
Yeah, I don't know darkthrone - I wouldn't call Josh Brolin's W having "charisma" in this scene, exactly. More of a sort of drunken, "I'm proud to be an ignorant moron" frat-boy folksiness that passes for charisma in the Bible Belt.
To bad Laura Bush doesn't look like this anymore. But the actor has Bush packed down. This scene was very charming, and memorable. I look foward to watching this.
man shes hot, I am actually a fan of president bush(please dont crucify me), I want to go see this movie, I think it looks informative and entertaining, if its just a bunch of Bush bashing could someone tell me now, id be kinda disappointed if it was.
Be careful who you call a sheep. You're the one hiding behind your keyboard calling names. I doubt you'd have the nerve to call somebody that in person.
She got it right when she called him a DEVIL. she knew his character and make up from the beginning. and still married him. must take one greedy, corrupt social climber to know one....
Why do you want to see a sex scene with President Bush? I mean, for the last 8 years, he's been shagging you and me and ever other American in the rear end.
It's pretty interesting, but you don't take an exclusive organization of wealthy, greedy, influential people and cry "Satanists!" Trust me, I give the mainstream media no credibility anymore. I think we agree far more than you'd think, but don't waste your intelligence on radical conspiracy theories, because no one will ever take you seriously. And rightfully so, because if you can't prove it, you're automatically bullshit.
Laura was liberal and so was his mom, Barbara, so it was a good contrast.

Thank you for your comment.
johngl70 1 year ago
@johngl70 : I am curious....I'd like to ask you a question....do you think it would be acceptable (or wise) for all middle eastern countries to be allowed develop "atomic weapons"? After all, the USA has not used them in 64 years. If all the Arab countries were to have such weapons I fear they would not be as restrictive in the use of them as the USA has been.
inkey2 1 year ago
I think this is not the right place to write about that. Email will be better in that case. However, as my country is also involved in the Nato coalition my point of view counts as yours. Remember that the media is the one showing you the criteria that the western world has against nuclear development. The Usa has not used the nuclear attack in 64 years but the middle east has never used it at all, always stick to the facts even thought they can be hard. I will send you a message with my mail. J

KillMeNow1990 3 years ago 29

And now that he's gone, freedom must be maintained until the people of Iraq can sustain themselves.
sexysk8erchik180 3 years ago 4
@KillMeNow1990 I completely agree. I have loved Stone's work since I first saw The Doors when I was little. Although I dont agree with his politics, I can fully say that if it were anyone to tell the story of the former President, let it be Oliver Stone. With his masterpieces like JFK and Nixon, He told the story of W quite awesomely!! I believe the movie came out, Too Soon, but "W" cleared the way to show Bush as a true meaning, other than what those liberals portrayed him in the media
PapagenoJuan2 1 year ago 2
@KillMeNow1990 I totally agree. It's not just about his flaws or his good side, but it's about just a guy born with the circumstances of a perfectionist dad, being in the shadow of his brother, and finding his true self in something (politics) where he can finally do something right (after screwing up other stuff). Kinda like the story of many of our ordinary lives and the stuff we face everyday... except that the stuff Bush faced is at a high level of society.
TaintedFaith88 11 months ago
@TaintedFaith88 Well, if that were the case, he would have apologized. Instead, he stuck to his guns, and sacrificed his dignity. He gave us the freedom to mock him everyday. However, compared to Obama, this man got things done, and that is what I appreciate about him.

PostmortemEP 3 years ago
Yes. Bush bashing is so boring and cliche. He did get rid of Saddam Hussein, and I believe he was put in an impossible situation after 9-11. The people wanted blood. He gave it to them, and then the people turned on him.
MinnowBelcher 3 years ago 5

AcesOfJokers 2 years ago

GlobeeCat 3 years ago
We don't know the context. For all we know, he could be lying about reading the book. Now that would be in character.
virgileco 3 years ago
Excellent point, virgileco. But I find it doubtful that a semiliterate, drunken retard like Bush would even know the title/author, to be able to lie about reading the book. All part of the massive dumbing down of the Republican party that's been steadily happening over the past 8 years.
GlobeeCat 3 years ago
I don't think thats fair to say. With much respect, Bush did make lot of mistakes but to call him semi-illiterate or a drunken-retard isn't hardly reasonable. Also, with the "dumbing down" of the republican party, Karl Rove may be the most ingenious and brilliant political adviser of our time and Condoleezza Rice (spell check?) was a professor in Staford, the Provost of Stanford, and the second woman after the Clinton administration to become Secretary of State. Oh, and Cheney can shoot people.
daj8989 3 years ago
In the absence of personal acquaintance w/Bush, I have to rely on his track record and info in the public domain. He routinely mispronounces words, stumbles on his sentences, gets facts twisted and has obvious problems thinking even remotely quickly on the fly (witness the 04 Presidential debates). So he is definitely sub-standard in smarts, even more so when compared against any other post-WWII US President (with the possible exception of Ford, and he was a historical accident).
GlobeeCat 3 years ago
On your second point, when I discuss the dumbing down of the GOP, I'm principally talking about the voters the GOP has decided to pander to and make its base over the decades (and especially the past 8 years, courtesy of Rove/Cheney): Middle American, lower middle class subprime trailer-dwelling Jesus-freak swine who think Sarah Palin is smart and will vote for anything with a flag, a gun, and a good war story.
GlobeeCat 3 years ago
Again, 1) this is all personal bias and no textual/proven information. 2) no matter how much daddy pays for you, Bush still got out of Yale with acceptable GPA's. 3)The pandering and shift of Republican voters towards after Clinton just proves Rove's competence in the political scene against strong Democratic opposition. 4) You just admitted on basing your information on public domain which we all know is easily thwarted. im not a republican, im an anit-idiot.
daj8989 3 years ago 5
GlobeeCat 3 years ago
haha sorry if i sound like a "typical Bush retard" but i lived in Cali all my life and now i am currently going to Calvin College in Michigan.

So maybe he was just charismatic when on the booze.
darkthronetube 3 years ago 2
Yeah, I don't know darkthrone - I wouldn't call Josh Brolin's W having "charisma" in this scene, exactly. More of a sort of drunken, "I'm proud to be an ignorant moron" frat-boy folksiness that passes for charisma in the Bible Belt.
