The fish in the river were not as plentiful in Oct so he had no chance. Not sure if he knew this danger, but his previous plans to leave in mid Sept made sense.
I think the idea he "got along" with the bears is false. Any animal with a full stomach
will be fairly docile, if you do not threaten their cubs or space IMO.

I often find myself chasing down my hat from my dog after she finishes rolling around on it for a scent fix. Makes you really think about the evolution of dogs as pets. We were all wild at one point in time. He probably had equal if not better odds of living there than all the rest of us do in cities, traffic, crime, etc.. When someone gets murdered in a big city, do we say he or she had it coming for choosing to live where the crime rate is high?
No. That's usually a different situation. Most people are stuck in one way or another where they are at in violent cities. 90% of people don't choose to live where crime is high. It just so happens that those are some of the only areas many of them can afford to live in. Other sociological factors exist to. But this guy purposely chose to live next to natural predators. That was literally a death sentence and a premeditated choice.
He disrespected the grizzly bears by going too deeply into their world/territory. He forgot that they're WILD animals not friends, not companions, but wild animals. It's just sad that he and his girlfriend were killed because of it.

Some moments in the film touched me like nothing I've seen before. I agree very much with Werner when he says that TT captured moments through coincidence and spontaneity that a studio and professional film-makers could never catch.
My favourite part is when he's filming a bear, saying goodbye for the season, and it looks like the scene is over, when from nowhere his two fox friends appear, running toward him.

I do not know why we intrinsically believe that we are so different than other animals...just because we do not understand as easily their means of communication, behaviors, ect, we are just another animal, and I believe what he did was beautiful. We may be a beers prey...sure...and prey so close and vulnerable to a preditor can be killed, he knew that, he said he wanted to die among them.

@Sabhalta What he did was unarguably stupid, reckless, and suicidal. He had significant pathology, suffering from depression and drug/alcohol addiction; possibly several others, including a personality disorder. That he was killed and eaten was a given long before it happened. The only thing that surprised me about Treadwell was that he was not gay. He is the only person I've ever heard with that gay affect/accent who wasn't actually gay.

@beeroosterm Yea...they kind of said all that in the documentary so I know it as well...I just think what he did was a cool thing and he got great footage. As far as a "mental disorder" goes...probably just manic depressive, aka bipolar. I also kind of have that though, but he didn't know everyone would see all the footage without his consent over what was viewed. Great artists from the past had mental disorders, just now we have them on video. Gay comment was unncessary, chill with testosterone

Treadwell most certainly filmed himself with the intention of broadcasting it to others; he appeared on the David Letterman show and was a media whore in general. "Just" manic depressive? I often find myself chasing down my hat from my dog after she finishes rolling around on it for a scent fix. Makes you really think about the evolution of dogs as pets. We were all wild at one point in time. He probably had equal if not better odds of living there than all the rest of us do in cities, traffic, crime, etc.. When someone gets murdered in a big city, do we say he or she had it coming for choosing to live where the crime rate is high?

No. That's usually a different situation. Most people are stuck in one way or another where they are at in violent cities. 90% of people don't choose to live where crime is high. It just so happens that those are some of the only areas many of them can afford to live in. Other sociological factors exist to. But this guy purposely chose to live next to natural predators. That was literally a death sentence and a premeditated choice.

He meant well, but he didn't show the bears the respect they deserve. The man came into the bear country, and followed them into the alders, which is where they often go to escape and feel safe, it's often where Mom's will tell their cubs to stay, if she feels threatened. Sometimes, it's where they store their food. The man came into bear country, and expected the bears to accomondate him.

Some moments in the film touched me like nothing I've seen before. I agree very much with Werner when he says that TT captured moments through coincidence and spontaneity that a studio and professional film-makers could never catch.
My favourite part is when he's filming a bear, saying goodbye for the season, and it looks like the scene is over, when from nowhere his two fox friends appear, running toward him.

People dont hate him its just that it was naive and pretty stupid for him to do this, and to do it for so long. Steve irvin, as dangerous as crocodiles are he understood that you can always be in a position of safety and could ensure himself to always be in one. With grizz there is no position of safety at any time only a hope they wont attack, if it wants to attack there is nothing you can do at any point in time. Still though, a great man, did great things, rip

Nothing to respect in a mentally disturbed alcoholic who found solace in a fantasy involving bears. He attributed human characteristics to wild animals which do not exist, and imagined threats to a protected species in a federal park which also do not exist. He thought of himself as a savior even though nothing needed saving. The truth is that Treadwell needed the bears the bears never needed Treadwell. All Treadwell accomplished was the deaths of two people and two of his beloved bears.

This story is just so sad and really broke my heart that he died in such agony with the girl who went to help him. I don't think Grizzlies can ever live near the human race but he loved them
