Bloody dangerous - dont folks know to stay well away from a winch rope thats under tension???? and whats with the guy walikng around underneath the landy in the first few seconds????if that had flipped it'd be right on top of him - lights out byebyes
NO, its NOT dangerous. It happened on a Winch Challenge event and what you cant see from the angle is that the truck was in a groove and wasnt gonna roll either way. You can see at 1.11 how slowly the truck landed back on its feet. Derek is very experienced and either him of his brother win most events they enter.
@sheldonv8 Sounds a little like the old saying, "Familiarity breeds contempt"....
I'm not talking about the truck flipping though...don't think it would have, but any rope under tension, especially on a well used kit, can break and cause injury, so a safe distance is always a good thing. Winching challenges, of all events, should be making a point of this fact, because the sad fact is folk will look at this video and try it out when they take their 4x4 offroad.
Well done! Piece of cake with two winches, they came handy in that moment. Some years ago i caught a similar situation with a Land Cruiser involved, they had much bigger problems getting it back on the wheels again.
You cant beat two Warn 8274 winches for a quick recovery job...it was only the second time his G/F had sat in the vehicle and her first Challenge Event....They came second overall...to me!! ha ha
