Hanneman makes it look like the guitar isn't a technical instrument, but all about just beating the crap out of it. Besides, he can't even play his own solos live anymore, just the same up and down improvisation, for all of the solos. Scott Ian is the best rhythm guitarist in my opinion.
@MetalSwitch95 Have you ever listened to the solo off of Temptation? Anything off of the album Show no Mercy or anything off of Seasons in the Abyss or Divine intervention. There are many others I could mention if I wated but I can't be fucked. And Dimebag Darrel can't make a solo without making it sound groovy. There's nothing wrong with having a signature thing in solos.
Don't forget about Dave Mustaine, Chris Poland and Marty Friedman . . . and I think Dimebag Darrell played a few gigs with Megadeth and Slayer so he gets an honorable mention

Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth are all thrash metal bands but have totally different styles. To compare them is to compare a saxophone to the color red. If you like thrash metal itself...you should be able to find the greatness in each of the bands prior to them selling out (if they did). All of them got old and their styles changed a bit. That doesn't necessarily mean they sold out or now suck. Oh and fast doesn't always mean good...just look at Dragonforce...

@disturbedspike I fully agree. Most metal to come out recently blows. The early 90's and late 80's was when real metal was out there, before Korn fucked it all up.
Most of the bands I hear these days don't have the straight up aggresion that made me a fan in the first place. I just can't get in to Dragonforce, Trivium, or any of that other crap that is coming out. Even Slipknot disappoints me these days. Give me some good old Metallica (pre black album), Machine Head, Pantera, Testament and bands like that. But I will say this, many new bands have good music and crap vocalists.
@snake2261 Korn was pretty good in their time, but they dont stand a chance in front of megadeth or any other classic thrash bands. Believe it or not but i got into metal because of korn but then soon i got influenced into more old school stuff and discovered this mighty awesome band called Megadeth. I got so much respect for the band i think they're fucking revolutionary, you know i could go on and on about megadeth i love them so much lol

They thought "pfffft! this is nothing but speed", but as it matured you saw them mix it with more melodies and slower progressions, as metallica proved with tracks like "fade to black" and "one" for example. I recommend you listen to the full version of "the last journey home" by dragonforce, it among others proves DF arent all about speed, its great.
@AccessSmitty You can't deny the Cheesy lyrics and the fact that they more studio effects than real music, they sound like a mario game on meth. Plus every one of their songs relies on the same generic "verse, chorus, shitty solo, different verse, chorus" formula. They're not power metal... they're flower metal. @LamaPaj But none of that is true. Yes, Guitar Hero helped sell them, but they play their own music live just fine, unless you happen to be there on a night where they're drunk. THAT'S why some of their performances aren't up to par.

Most of the bands I hear these days don't have the straight up aggresion that made me a fan in the first place. I just can't get in to Dragonforce, Trivium, or any of that other crap that is coming out. Even Slipknot disappoints me these days. Give me some good old Metallica (pre black album), Machine Head, Pantera, Testament and bands like that. But I will say this, many new bands have good music and crap vocalists.

@snake2261 Korn was pretty good in their time, but they dont stand a chance in front of megadeth or any other classic thrash bands. Believe it or not but i got into metal because of korn but then soon i got influenced into more old school stuff and discovered this mighty awesome band called Megadeth. I got so much respect for the band i think they're fucking revolutionary, you know i could go on and on about megadeth i love them so much lol

@TheDethKnell your perception of dragonforce is similar to what people thought of metallica and thrash in general in the early stages. They thought "pfffft! this is nothing but speed", but as it matured you saw them mix it with more melodies and slower progressions, as metallica proved with tracks like "fade to black" and "one" for example. I recommend you listen to the full version of "the last journey home" by dragonforce, it among others proves DF arent all about speed, its great.

@AccessSmitty You can't deny the Cheesy lyrics and the fact that they more studio effects than real music, they sound like a mario game on meth. Plus every one of their songs relies on the same generic "verse, chorus, shitty solo, different verse, chorus" formula. They're not power metal... they're flower metal. Plus they suck live, they sound like some shitty bar band trying to play a dragonforce song. (Yes, I have seen them live.)

yeah cheesy lyrics, but that's just power metal, there isn't much of a broad spectrum to write about in it, and besides its their schtick and their open about it. And you really gotta listen to the songs cuz the one i told you about sounds absolutely nothing like an average DF song structure. And i saw them live too and thought it was good, not breathtaking but good. people think its cool to hate this band when people don't really give it a chance, but if you really dont then I respect that

Jr. always was a cool dude. Seems liked a real dude, always has the best incite to things. You interview Mustaine or any other Megadeth member or someone from any other of the big four thrash bands: James, Scott, Jeff, Lars whoever...then ask Jr. the same question and Jr. gives you by far and a way a more detailed answer and nails several things the other guys missed.

i find kerry to be a slightly overated lead player (if you look at jeffs riffs/solos are a bit harder) but he is an extreemly underated rithem player. he can turn a shitty mallcore emo band into a thrash machine!

James Hetfield has the cleanest voice which fits Metallica, Tom Araya is brutal as hell when he is yelling (WHICH IS AWESOME!!) and Dave Mustaine has that really agressive voice which fits perfect to Megadeth, and Rob Dukes is a bit harder to describe, but it fits really good to Exodus!
