  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • This was good, don't really like the mix. He sang it good though,

the phantom would be coming and get him for this. but he did good

  • David truly sang this perfectly and fantastic!!

  • Its still odd, but his voice so good and it sounds really cool, so I'll forgive him and even like it a lot! :)

  • Erik,if you love me, please dont kill him!

  • everyone needs to stop comparing this version to the theatrical, broadway like, version because they are supposed to change the music and that is exactly what he did!!! he made it his own and yes i liked the original version but i like this version better because it is in more of a style that i enjoy!!!

  • Jesus... it surprises me to find out how many people are deaf. @justsing91: "he made [the song] better"? You've GOT to be kidding me. Really, this kid completely mutilated the song. At some point I thought I was listening to one of those cheap Christmas cds you buy at a random store when the season's in & the classic tunes are covered by some teeny-popper star. Post Scriptum, he's really gotta learn how to breathe AWAY from the microphone. Even a decrepit singer, like me, knows this well enough.

  • this is awesome i just wished people would relized this is awsome

  • David Archuleta's version of the song is different from the way it was composed. It was originally intended for theatrical performance and Archie's rendition was pop ballad. Archuleta's singing is heartfelt, penetrating the soul of those who listen. His angelic voice and charm captivate his audience with enchanting awe beyond words can express. People who can not surpass his level singing, should not make condescending remarks otherwise they just reveal their envy and overpowering insecurity.

  • Oh come on people it isn't that bad. Sure it is very different from the actual song but it isn't bad

  • tooootallly screwed up! I don't like the backstreet boy tune that he uses, totally screwed up a great great song!

  • thats why there on idol to change up songs to make it their own and he made it so much better

  • @justsing91

    EXACTLY! I totally agree!

  • RUINED HE RUINED IT OMFG SHOOT HIM PLZ HE HAS OFFICIAL RUINED PHANTOM I WILL NEVER LISTEN TO THIS SONG AGAIN HE SOUNDS GOOD JUST RUINED THE SONG

  • David Archuleta makes the most beautiful version of "think of me" a man could ever sing, especially because the original song was suppose to be sung by a woman. well done David !

  • where is the phantom...bring on the phantom whips and shackles..this dude needs to be punished for high treason

  • I half expected the music to get cut and the the Phantom's theme plays and then he'd come in and kicked Archuleta's ass like the Undertaker.

  • What. Did. He. Doooooooo???? :'( :'(

  • @Erictheeviltwin He sang it and made it even cooler.

  • @bookwormforever1991 no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no :'( Have you seen Phantom? It's not. Meant. To. Be. Like. This.

I love David, but I'm gutted with this. They gave him the wrong song. It's meant to be sung as a duet and by someone with a naturally high voice, which David hasn't got, no matter how pretty he is.:'( :'(

  • @Erictheeviltwin Yes i have seen it and you forget David has sung many songs for girls and he was of the FINAL TWO on American Idol, yes he is young and sang girls songs but sometimes I even though I'm a girl will sing along with the guys including in phantom of the opera. I can match my voice almost to any song as long as it isn't too high.

  • @bookwormforever1991 Never said he wasn't good. Just said they gave him the wrong song. You can change the operatic style to a guitar, add a bit of tempo - fine. But the song wasn't written to be performed that way. It's just not right.

I didn't say being young was a bad thing, either?

You need to have an amazing range to sing this song, which, because he hasn't been trained, he doesn't have. Emmy Rossum can hit that last note, which was *convieniently* taken out of his performance. ;)

  • how many people do you think that watched this had no idea what it was from? poor poor uncultured american teenagers.... sometimes i feel like im the only high schooler thats ever seen a musical in their life

  • @uhpanduh Nope not the only one i'm a teen just out of high school and i watch musicals too.

  • @uhpanduh your not alone lol!

  • So what if it was originally meant for a female? Truth be told the role was created for Sarah Brightman, does that mean only she should sing the songs? I've heard Michael Crawford sing Memory, and did a fantastic job at it. David A did a wonderful job too, and I don't think the Phantom would "slap him".

  • Where is the Phantom to kill him... You ruined it.

  • @cheshirecatxxMAD But he sounds good.

  • Uhh... David A. this is meant for a girl to be singing, great job but still a tad weird. Very good singing though.

  • Okay i like his voice....I hate that he took suck a wonderful soprano song and well...yeah...i agree the Phantom would slap him for this...This song is meant to be sung by a beautiful young girl with no performances under her belt....this is just unjust. Sorry David but lets stray from musicals..or at least the female roles..

  • personally, i love how he sang this song. yes it is meant for a girl but because he is singing, he did a great job despite what the critics sang. id like to see them go up and sing a song meant for the oppisite sex and then see what others have to say.

  • A guy singing this song... awkward...

  • ... that was... priceless... an awesome job! very, very well done...

  • i think if the phantom of the opera chaned to christopher and Eliza, David would make Christopher!

  • i gotta say, the people that were good for the musical theatre got voted off and all the bad ones stayed. its not fair, just because they arent well rounded singers

  • @misssmilesunshine yea thats true, it wasn't fair

  • Dude If I was on Idol at this point it would be rocking it out as a muscial theatre singer, not a damn pop culture singer.

  • @TheTony2013Rocks I would be a musical theater singer too :)

  • He did a horrible job it didnt even sound remotely close to the song and you couldnt even tell what he was singing.

  • @jasmine0813 i think david cook won...i really hope this guy didnt win..

  • i kind of liked this, but he changed it too much i think...i really like the beginning with the guitar so im going to get my friend to do an acoustic version of this for me and i'll sing and then we'll post it haha :)

  • Good gawd, he ruined the song :/

  • He forgot the words!

  • Comment removed

  • He did a great job with this.. I LOVE IT! :)

  • his face is messed up, so is his singing.

  • i hate when these american idol fags ruin great songs...god. 13 year old girls are stupid to watch this bullshit

  • @SkyBennett1 yeahh..im 13 and i really hate american idol...

  • god this kid is such a fag, just like Bieber

  • amazing love it

  • no no no

  • the swing thing sounds quite cute. but if he changed it this way, the original REALLY CAN'T be beaten.

it's quite sad that he changed such a passionate song that's flowing with emotion into something... dead compared to the original.

  • the phantom would slap him like a hoe if heard this

  • @jazzyfaceproductions Excuse my language but i think you meant B*&$# slap him. But i totally agree with you.

  • @jazzyfaceproductions Hahahah omfg.

  • @jazzyfaceproductions I agree 100% but i loved David Cooks song he sang...it was very very good

  • @jazzyfaceproductions Just... LOL.

  • I wont take it as an insult if he asked Andrew Lloyd Webber before he sang

  • Good voice, terrible arrangement.

  • lmao

    the original GIRL

has the highest soprano voice ever!

    pretty good, though

  • i hate him so much right now. KILL HIM!!!

  • Kill me now.

  • I really like David Archuleta, but i do not like how he made this song into pop.

That was sort of a no for me. he is very talented, but he messed up this song completely.

  • I really like David Archuleta, but i do not like how he made this song into pop.

That was sort of a no for me.

  • Beautiful David! This is one of my favorite songs from the show and you sang it beautifully!

  • Surprisingly, I kinda like the swing edge he adds to the song. But of course, I like the original.

  • aww, I so miss the old Archuleta style of singing, the rich vibrato, the inner

passion. Hope he goes back to finding the passion in his music again in meaningful music.

  • green eyes mmmmmmmmm

  • I LOVED THIS SONG!!!!

  • @mamagranny1 how come you dont love it anymore?

  • @KLKLKLKL10 Oh I do still love it...just thinking about his IDOL days I guess.

  • good lord, people, it's not ruined, it's different. the song changed, it evolved into something new. probably something the younger crowd can relate to better, but in ways of performance there should be little to complain about here (unlike mr cooks music of the night). i'm not saying this is better than the original, but it is a nice approach and it's easy to listen to as well.

  • @joolz1988 It's ruined to me. It just doesn't sound good the way it is. There's an uneasy feeling in me that this song is this way. It's just weird.

  • People keep saying that Dadvid Cook killed Music of the Night, but David Archuleta has butchered Think of Me. He's a good singer and all, but this isn't a good arrangement of the song. :/

  • im not the biggest fan of the pop version, but david's voice is amazing, as usual.

  • This is actually pretty cool!!!

  • ...no.

  • @WonderlandMystery567 I don't think she's better. I think it's just that she has a different style that you so obviously prefer.

  • that was terrible.

  • why do they only allow 2 minutes when david singings i'd give him an hour or 2 not just 2 minutes he's my favorite and my role model!!!!!!!!

  • This was Andrew Lloyd Webber week on ai show. This is what the show is about, to make a known song, in this case classic Broadway song, into your own style and interpretation. David came up with this version within a week, amazing talent. I wanted to hear more than the 2 minutes the show allows. Loved it.

  • ITS RUINED!!!!!!

  • I like how he changed it

  • I prefer the more classical approach! But he's good.

  • This is sooo good!

I love when Christine sings it, but for him, this is really good!

  • This is my favorite version of this song!!!!!!!!

  • he seriously sucks. i want to kill him right now. he just ruined this song. STOP singing. he doesn't even look good when he sings. UGH!

  • I like it. He's amazing don't get me wrong! But this song just isn't made for pop, it's opera. I like the original better lol. And I'm going to audition with this as one of my songs. And I will sing it the way it was originally supposed to be :D The 17th.. Oh boy.

  • @SugarbabyLA He's not amazing -.-

  • HES SO SWEET,AND A GREAT SINGER

  • He breathes to often....

  • he just demolished this amazing song and made it into poopy dont cus me out cuz i have good taste

  • Amazing version, but, sorry, no pop. Just no.

  • argh ruined the song.

  • I see why he didn't win. Original is better. Sorry David, I like you but bad choice. Sorry.

  • I think it was a pretty damn good arrangement since it's for American Idol.

  • I liked it! It's not easy converting the sound of a musical number, and he did it very well. It rather reminded me of Christmas, for some reason. C:

  • meh...liked the original better..

  • Love this sooo much!!!!

  • i LOVE David Archuleta. but being a huge Phantom of the Opera fan, i'm not too fond of this version. it was good and all, and i like it, but he should have stuck to the original.

  • I thought this was pretty good, and original. He should have won.

  • Such a beautiful song... just butchered.

  • well i like it alot

  • Argh... Why did he even do this song in the first place?!

  • wow so beautiful

  • I LOVE this version of this song!!! David's soooo talented!!!

  • ew.

  • why did he do a pop version? Kid has talent, but please. PLEASE.

  • he ruined it by making it pop notclassical and instrumental. just ya....NO

  • It sounds KIND OF like an overdone Christmas song with the voice and the little changes to the higher notes. He did it well, just o.o

  • Sarah Brightman is better.

  • This is about personality..

The song was written for a soprano female and made for the Opera (so to speak)

However he has put his spin on this and it works really well !!!!

    TIn Pai E hoa

  • No wonder he LOST. Peace

  • @choro1981 Thank you very much, but he should've won. And I think he brought a very modern spin to this beautiful song. He makes it sound even more innocent than it is, which is amazing. And whose songs do you mostly hear on the radio? Archie's. And who do you see in all the magazines? Archie. I think I proved my point.

  • the guitar solo adds a very up to date sounds and so does he!

  • i agree. wish he had sung it in the original way. interesting for a guy to sing it though.

  • i actually like this.

  • wooow! this version is my favourite =)

  • He butchered the song! Eww...

  • yay hes gud

  • David stayed on his own style and did a pop ballad version of a theatrical song. That's what ai show is about.

Ppl who don't like this, go spend your precious time elsewhere. Obviously Erik is not happy with life and keep coming back to dissing here.

2 years later, and I still enjoy David's version.

I came back to hear this because I enjoy David's singing.

  • @caser1210

Think whatever you want; I'm happy with my life, just not happy with this. David had a good voice, but just....this song is meant for female singers AND operas. NOT male singers and pop ballad remixes.

So..,yeah. I bet you if Erik, our friendly neighborhood Phantom of the Opera, heard this, he'd go on a killing spree. It's horrid.

  • @EriksWanderingChild lol, killing spree

  • @obs619-

Jealous? -snickers- OF HIM? -bursts out laughing-

This song is a disaster. If he can't even get the lyrics right, he shouldn't be singing it.

    @turandot and bbug97 -

    Preach it, sister. XD

  • I am a HUGE Phantom "Phan", love that song, and, I kind of like the twist he put on it here. I could envision this version being played on the radio, opening up Phantom to new fans.

  • ruined it!

  • those of you who says he ruined the song are just jealous of him.

  • @obs619 Ha, jealous of what? The fact that he had a free weekend to go try out for A.I. and then got to work with good producers? The world is full of too many pop singers.

  • The Phantom of the Opera is a musical, not an opera.

  • exactly, i don't get why you got thumbs down. it is a musical. if it was an opera there would be no talking.

  • @turandot82 Even though the actual musical isn't an opera, since many operas are performed within the show, some of the songs are in the style of classic opera. Think of Me is one of those songs.

  • Dude. Lyrics, notes, and overall stage presense check, please? I understand making the song yours and such, but going up when you need to go down and messing up amazing lyrics? Boooo!

  • Yah, I guess he slightly messed up in this performance but it's still fine! C'mon people. What did you expect from him when you knew that he'll sing the song, Opera? He doesn't do opera, I think. And, it's his own version. It's pop ballad, I think.

  • @KeysOfNathaniel its not an opera. its a musical you genius! operas don't have words -.-

  • @cailinnAnn I was referring to the kind of song of the original 'Think of Me'. Well, I'm actually not sure what to call that genre lol. It's opera, isn't it?

  • @cailinnAnn Operas have words, they just dont have spoken dialogue, big diff. But you're right, it is musical theater not opera =-)

  • wow love they way he did it he put a diffrent twist on it

  • He ruined a great song... oh my ...

  • How come he ruined it? He couldn't have sung opera there. It doesn't fit him and he'll lose originality.

  • simon was so wrong...love his version of the song...it's so pop...love it...

  • i likd it but the original version would have been WAY more pleasurable to hear

  • i completely agree! he totally ruined this song!

  • AWESOME !

  • he did good..he should have won the whole thing..but i like to movie version a lot better

  • This song is good for him because he's very young and innocent, and he has a nice voice, but the pop version is just... NO.

  • @oMELPOMENEo i totally agree w/ u

  • @oMELPOMENEo Hahaha! Yeah! But probably they just did that so it could suit his voice.

  • @oMELPOMENEo i hate the pop version. its HORRRRRRIBLE.

  • 1:22 - sounds like someone's forgetting his words.

  • nice ^^ pretty different from every other version I've hear 'till now. I like the use of guitars instead of just piano or violins

  • I honestly love watching someone with real taste in music shoot down a sore loser that doesn't know when to recognize actual talent. It's fun to watch said sore loser get their feelings hurt and try to wit away the fact that they were obviously wrong. I personally believe that his version was HIS VERSION. There is no need to compare it against Emmy Rossum or Sarah Brightman, because they all have different levels of musical talent.

  • @ReikaNohara Dude, it's not like he's not talented. It's just that, this to me.. sounds SO WRONG. i'm not comparing his voice to any of them. But just so wrong.

  • @MyArtIsLoved731

Oh, there's no doubt that it sounds wrong. It will never be as amazing as the original or film version. As a stand-alone piece, it's pretty good. But as a tribute, it doesn't cut it, I must agree. Sorry if you took that wrong :)

  • That was...beautiful. Some of the words at the end were different, but he did a great job in my opinion 0=)

  • nice

  • So he put his own spin on the song for once, instead of everyone else who sings this song all the same. He gave it personality, and made it interesting. You have a right to your opinion, so I have a right to mine. I like it.

  • @imjustawesome93 And I have a right to mine: NO!

  • Awesome version. Beautiful voice.

  • This is lame, the song sounds weird. His voice is nice but the song is WAY better in it's original state, LAME!!!!!!

  • I love this song. I loved it sung by the girl in the movie, and I love how he sings it as a man. People, you have to make up your minds...first you don't like it if it's 'different' but, you also don't like it if they try to sound the 'same' He kept nearly all of the melody, and yet, made it his own. I admire this preformance, and think he did an amazing job with it.

  • dont try to act like you know what your talking about "he kept nearly all the melody" how can anyone take anything from your opinion? you said you liked how she sang it in the movie......that girl was worse than sarah brightman and its hard to top how terrible she is. go educate yourself

  • Hmmm, 'go educate yourself'...? Written by a person that doesn't have the capability to know when to use capital letters? Everyone has their opinions...and I gave mine. You like what you like, and the rest of us will enjoy real talent. No need to respond, I'm not looking for your kind of education. Merry Christmas!:)

  • this isn't school, i dont need to use capital letters and as far as educating? i was talking about learning about the original and what made the movie.....but whatever enjoy your "real talent"

  • @TwistedLogic06 I'm sorry, you say sarah brightman sucks? you realize she became ALW's muse for that role, right? therefore she can't be that bad.

  • @TwistedLogic06 I understand where your coming from and at the same time I disagree. On one side of the argument, David did a good job with his vocals. He took the core meaning of the song and spun it to fit his needs during this competition. Turn over the leaf and I can see how this could be a 'disgrace' to die hard fans of PotO. I will admit I don't like this performance but I think he did a good job. (con't.)

  • @TwistedLogic06 At the same time I have to say that I believe that Sarah Brightman has an incredible voice which this original role was tailored to fit. It seems that your dislike for her is mostly a biased personal preference based on how apposed you are of both her and David. Try to look at it from a distant perspective next time, instead of taking the differences personally.

  • Thank you for being understanding. I'm sure he has a great voice, I can tell that, but it's my opinion that he butchered this song. Really, REALLY butchered it.

  • My favorite Phantom song, sung by my favorite season 7 Idol!

  • @__@ umm

    .....

  • .......

  • he should've picked memory. haha.

  • Er, I can't say much for this. I agree with the person below me. He's no Sarah Brightman.

I either just don't like how he sings this, which I don't at all, or that it's supposed to be sung by a girl. Plus it sounds a little remixed, not a little actually, very remixed, which I don't like.

I liked the original better, this is terrible.

  • He's the best Idol star in history. I LOVE HIM SOOO MUCH!

  • I love Archuleta. but he's no Sarah Brightman.

His range is spectacular. But the fact that he had to change the song to pull it off tells me he's not comfortable venturing outside his niche. David Cook actually practiced to master the style in Music of the Night, and it really proved he was a well-rounded artist. Archuleta really should have done the same- when a composer writes a masterpiece, you dont try to "improve it," just like you wouldnt improve Beethoveen or Bach.
