  • the dingbat and the retard yelling ain the background should have been arrested

    probably high on drugs

  • Those assholes making all the noise in the back ground need to eat a cheese with their whine.

  • as soon as i heard theft i stop feeling sorry for him

  • LOL that cop got demoted to a desk job hahahaha

  • Cops Delt with that just fine

  • Great job by the officers here, especially given the douche bags harrassing them! I didn't see anything in this video that looked excessive, on the contrary I thought the one women that tried to grab the officer should have been pepper sprayed. Guyucc, you are a complete and utter idiot!

  • hah i live in nelson and this is the perfect example of hippies freakin out.

srsly man if your gonna be an idiot at a public market then what do you expect.

if your wanna be an idiot and smoke dope go to witches hollow or somethen

  • In this situation the Nelson police did nothing wrong. However with the high level of corruption in this department it is no wonder people are loosing faith in them. Police brutality is common place. We have way too many City cops on payrole, and we have RCMP. This results in boredom, not good in a town of 10 000. The city police force should be completely disbanded. Law enforcement should be done by trained professionals not a private force where any Joe with a superiority complex can join up.

  • Quit whining you scumbag P.O.S The cops in Nelson should do more to clean up the streets of you low life pot heads. Here's a novel idea, do your bud in the privacy of your own home I'm not allowed to drink on the streets what gives you the right to smoke weed in public. Here's another idea it goes alot easier when you don't resist, fucking moron piece of shit.

  • sounds like your the one with a problem. you know most would class me as a yuppie also. i live in a 2400 square ft home on the north shore i drive a nice car and own a company but im not a yuppie you know why cause i care about my fellow people big and small. and who are you to call me hitler? well what ever i know the truth. you just cant deal with yourself so you push others down to make yourself feel better... good for you lmao

  • you guys are all nothing but a bunch of white washed yuppie problem makers. the gentleman in question here was arrested under false pretenses. im good friends with the apposed, and the police acted out of line. and very inappropriately. shame on the nelson police.

  • The woman screaming should have gotten arrested for being a drama queen. That was a by the book arrest and I see nothing wrong with it.

I am against the concept of police state, and would take legal action against any officer abusing their power, but this is not one of those cases.

Well done NCP members. In my opinion, his arms weren't extended enough! But that's why I won't be a cop. A thief would get much less mercy from me.

Thanks for making this video and exposing your idiotic self.

  • I have respect for the Police in our country. Laws too! If we didn't have any of this, then, hippie radicals would hurt, maime, kill & steal from innocent hardworking decent law abiding people. Hippie radicals are nothing but leaches!

  • If you were a business owner would you appreciate being ripped off? If you were ripped off would you appreciate a system where trained individuals come to your aid and investigate the matter and take losers like this into custody so you don't have to?

I am an artist and a work of mine was stolen, i'd be pissed off, so much so that I would need police to intervene before I did. See the shoes fit pretty well don't they?

Get a life. Typical holier than thou Nelson bullshit.

  • I'm from nelson, and i believe that the cops in this video acted accordingly. and you are right, the lechers off of this city like to think that holier then thou bullshit because they can survive in the city without giving anything back. this is just the city giving something back to them.

  • If he did "nothing wrong" then back off, let the cops deal with him and let the courts determine if he stole or not. This is the structure of the legal system...deal with it.

I can't help but support these cops when I see interference like this.

Grow up and realize that you live in a structured society. If you don't like it...get the fuck out of Canada!!!!

  • I was then assaulted by the officer and thrown to the ground, splitting open my knee. it is at this point when the video starts, so it appears as though i am bracing myself on the ground and resisting, but both my shoulders were pinned back and i couldn't do anything. and was it really necessary to bounce my head off the ground when i was already in cuffs? i am not a thief, and now i have to deal with a year's probation and a $2000 fine for a misunderstanding and a bottle of water. fuck that.

  • alright, as the individual arrested in the film, i would like to post the real story. i walked into subway with an empty diet coke bottle to fill up with water at the pop machine. i got mostly water, but accidentally pushed the ice tea lever below the water button with my bottle. only seeing me walking out of the store, the cashier accused me of stealing a bottle of pop. when the arresting officer approached me, he did not want to hear my explanation or check the contents of the bottle.

  • I too am from Nelson and the Pigs there are fuck tards, and ass hats.

  • Its because you are a low life criminal, thats why you say shit like that. You amount to the gum stuck to the bottom of my shoe.

  • He is a theif and resisted, fuck him.

  • im from nelson, and actually got beaten up by a cop right by where that happened at the BMO and i was only 17 and im a girl. fucking bullshit. Fuck nelson police, OMG.

  • The male was obviously resisting arrest, by not giving his arms up, and bracing himself against the ground, etc. Therefore, using force against him is legally justified. Why the officer kind of tossed him to the side at one point, I don't know.. it's possible the male was stiffening his body and he was tossing him to overcome that resistance, or maybe he was spitting. The bystanders were getting far too close multiple times. They probably could've been legally pepper sprayed by the officers.

  • Comment removed

  • Should of tasered the stupid POS along with the 2 chirping in the background. Listen to the guy and girl in the background, drunk as f@#!. I suspect the guy being arrested is too. He is plainly resisting arrest, and the idiots coming close to the cop were obstructing. Stupid bleeding heart people who think everytime cops arrest someone, it is unjust. Go figure this video is in Nelson, freakin hippie town anyways.

  • Nelson is not a hippie town, we just happen to have a rather large population of them, so does Victoria. I don't see anybody calling Victoria a hippie town. I'm not saying that this man didn't do anything, I'm just defending my hometown, and I don't mean anything about this particular video.

  • He was resisting arrest. He was being detained for a reason and he fought back, getting himself in worse trouble. They kept saying he did nothing wrong. I guess they are kinda dumb not knowing that you don't just take people's stuff without asking.

  • haha fucker was resisting the whole time i would of cuffed the stupid bitch wife too fuckin retarded liberal fucks OGA/Discon

  • ya lets all become conseratives, we could wear ties and drive big trucks, and we could kiss americas ass, white we live in fear of gays and terrorists, and one a week we can get drunk at the bar and beat up dem fags that are not listen to Ozzy

  • They should have shot the stupid fuck

  • ya lets turn in to a pol pot or hitler type state. We could drive our big trucks over bodies.

  • Aplekore. you truly believe, even if the red stains on his shirt are not blood, that it is neccessary to grind someones face into a sidewalk for stealing a cup of pop from subway? This is a ridiculous world, where this sort of behaviour becomes acceptable.

  • bliss, I really don't like tazor murders and all that.

I have been roughed up by cops for nothing myself.

BUT ! The crime is for courts, the police have the duty (we pay them for this) to arrest people, and when they do arrest people, we know we can't resist this, or they use physical violence (like we see in all humans, animals, even space) to get their way.

Yelling at someone is also violent, very insulting to the children.

Nelson is full of mind game violence 100x worse than this.

    Peace

  • I love it how these stupid hippie idiots feel like everything they do is their 'right'..give me a break...these idiots ever need help in an emergency, who takes the call? the police! idiots! Instead of fighting the police, go and raise money to feed the homeless...oh wait..you're too busy raggin' on cops...

  • stupid hippies nothing wrong with what the cops did there

  • First of all the chick yelling at them to to do their job right should fuck right off! They are doing it right! NONE of that was unnecessary, if that fuckin hippie didnt do what he did to be arrested and struggle and spit on the police then NONE of that would have happened! nothing in this video was unnecessary except all the hippies being dumb and making it harder for the Police. holy fuck theres ALOT of dumb idiots in this world

  • did you read what i wrote you dumfuck?

  • @discot315 You got that right. The only brutality here is the screaming in the ears while the cops are trying to do their job and using an awful lot of restraint not to lash out at the idiots trying to get in the way. Good video, but whoever filmed this added all the subtitles clearly has no respect for public order.

  • @discot315

haha cant agree with you more on most of your points. Those officers looked like the had integrity and they definately showed patience and composure. The guy getting arrested and his friends were probally just really pissed off, drunk, or stoned, evident by the guy hardly making sence and that chick screaming...

  • The cops were just doing their job, even so, if you watch the video, they kick the dudes wife! like WTF is with that? Also, when arresting a suspect, you dont need to grind his face into the sidewalk. They had apparently already taken the kinfe away, and he was being arrested because he stole a cup of pop from subway, all the blood on his shirt is apparently also his. If someone walks out of a restaurant with a cup of pop, i dont think its neccessary to make him bleed...

  • Video should be renamed "Cops show great restraint". The only kick I observed was one to her hand that was grabbing the guy they were arresting. Both his hands were on the guy at the time. You act like he did a roundhouse to the side of her head. The red on his shirt was not blood. Please read discot315's last sentence and take some time to reflect.

  • fuck'n pussy in trail, ps who has the loud mouth in the back ground??? SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • PS, I feel for the trama this might seem like for some, but the guy resisting doesn't help it makes more friction, cops never stop arresting someone because they scream loud.

It wasn't brutal at all, the guy gets his arm pulled, but is it broken ? Is he a 1 year old or a puppy ?

The screaming on the other hand in little nelson on a peaceful night is the crime, you would get spat on and beat up or killed in Thailand for screaming like babies and breaking the peace of all.

    Think of Gaza, wimp

  • I hate bad police as much as the next guy.

But what I see is calm police dealing with a dick head that has no respect of the others trying to enjoy some peace. Then there is a big mouth women screaming and stuff. what about peace, talk in private.

I dont know why they arrested him. But from what I remember about Nelson cops... the are VERY cool as far as cops go, I must have got dozens of warnings in the time I lived there.

Of course there was that asshole from Cowtown that moved in...

  • I cant believe anyone would call this brutality. These cops just look like they are calmly cuffing this guy.I have seen police brutality, and this is not that.Whats your problem tagging this shit as brutality?Sounds like those yelling are drunk as skunks...get a life.I love Nelson and was never hassled while living there, even when we smoked weed on Baker in the open. This guy must have done *something*.

  • This is great! NCP RULES!!! To the 'loves of this vid', why don't you go back to Vancouver, Calgary, TO, Winnipeg or wherever or whatever it is you are running from. We don't want you here! Nelsonites pay alot of taxes to live in 'the most beautiful place in BC'...it should be a privilege to reside here! Now it's just a dumping ground. Scum bag, street rats, hoods, vandals, thieves and sorry- mental health!! Git!!

  • its only going to get worse

  • If the guy getting arrested would have stopped resisting arrest and did what the cop asked there would have been no issue. He could have after explained that he did nothing wrong......And if he had done nothing wrong there would be no issue. These cops lay there life on the line everyday and they are trained to treat all situations with the same precaution that........ they do not know what danger will arise from the problem they are trying to solve!!!!!!!!

  • Wow...please explain to me why this man was arrested...and don't tell me it was "out of the blue". That is the root of the issue.

  • if you're going to resist, and be an idiot, it's gonna hurt. pretty straight forwards... it's really easy to say it was unneccessary force when you're only holding a cam, not trying to arrest someone hey..

  • well most of you that posted I see are pretty desensitized if you don't see a problem here. After the cuffs are on it's time to get him up and to the car, right!! but NO instead drag him forward and rough him up a bit more. By the responses here all I can see that is this society thrives on violence you *ucken love it!!! And before the camera came out there was some chocking too . nice hey!

  • I know don't know, I think it was the trip to Cambodia that did me in, got a little roughed up and realized how easy my life is in Canada.

At least they guy didn't get tazored, isn't this what cops should do is wrestle with a guy ?

I am just saying, the only thing rough is that guy is out of shape and drunk, but really, its pretty light duty stuff that if two buddies did to each other would be called a little fun.

Save your energy for real intances of abuse of power.

  • They should have dealt with that cock Cambodian style...

  • @guyucc thats just a typical police arrest of someone who is a fighting, and with the person screaming in the video... yikes... either way Police are there to maintain the peace not butt their nose in peoples lives, or make the rules for us... officer bubble and the like can fuck right off, or when the pigs start making political comments like we need to know what hamberhead thinks.

  • If someone is trying to fight with a Police Officer (someone who puts their life on the line everyday to protect citizens - even assholes like you) then they deserve what they get. Next time you're in trouble and you're in danger, we'll see if they use too much force then, when they're protecting you personally.

  • If you think they are so rouch and use un "nessesary" (learn how to spell), then you should strap on their belt and do their job. We'll see how much force you use when confronted with the life threatening situations that they are. If your friend wasn't resisting against them, then things would have gone a lot smoother. The ball was in his court.

  • They were just doing there job no need to have a tree hugging bird seed eating hippy fest and bitch about it for years (like logging!!) or whatever the hell he is probably just another drifter bum that asks ppl for smokes and weed..and spazzes when you say no... they used neccesary force that was needed for that scrounger too bad they didnt use the taser :( I dunno about you ppl but im sick of all these bums and scroungers downtown they dont do any good for this town or society

  • if you can't stand behind our police, feel free to stand in front of them.....

  • I live in Nelson and I want to say good job to the NCP, there is nothing wrong with this arrest the guy is a scumbag. Should have arrested the stupid loud girl in the background also, man is she ever stupid.

  • ya nothing wrong there fuckin free loaders bitchin aboot rough arrests, justlike saltspring island people have nothing better to do then give police shit for dealing with pieces of shit

  • Doesn't seem like unnecessary force at all, seems reasonable to me under the circumstances. I applaud the police!

  • I can't believe how calm those policemen were considering all the verbal abuse they were getting! I think they were too GENTLE with him!

  • As citizens we also have rights to protection from Thieves and criminals. This man was a suspected thief, had a weapon and was resisting arrest. The people screaming in the background were being restrained by other officers. The female was apparently arrested for obstuction. When we have Police Officers in this country being shot and killed in the line of duty they shouldn't be ridiculed by every Joe Blow out there with a camera showing only part of the story.

Lets look at the whole picture People!!

  • I commend the NCP for showing tremendous restraint while trying to arrest and cuff this guy. The apparently drunk couple harassing them are fortunate they weren't arrested as well.

Hang in there guys ya did good!

  • fuckin useless nelson cops . . . they have a history of physically abusing my friends in the past during arrests. One of those friends was a female also. They don't need 2 use excessive force like that, it's bull shit! We aren't in Calgary or Vancouver so why the fuck do the cops treat it like we are in fact there.

  • drunkin' disrespectful thieves like you and your buddies should have had your ass kicked a lot harder than the video shows...i think it is obvious from most kids i've talked to that you and your buddies are a bunch of loosers

  • Break the law and get arrested, then actively resist and the situation will get worse.

No law broken here it's simply cause and effect.

The police were totally professional in a very difficult situation dealing with drunken or drugged out scumbags yelling and screaming obscenities.

  • Sure, this is a "Show of force" but it's not in any way "excessive" force. The individual had committed theft, was armed, high on drugs, aggressive AND resisting arrest. If he hadn't resisted arrest, NO force would have been necessary. His screaming "friends" only made a bad situation worse, and the job of the police more difficult. Kudos to the Nelson Police! Keep on keeping the streets of Nelson safe!

  • Thank you to the Nelson Police Dept for doing a great job throughout Nelson! I feel safe in this town. To the douchebags yelling off camera & the videographer, get a life & a job! Typical anarchist welfare bums with nothing productive to do then harrass others on the job. Its people ( like those harrassing the Police ) that should be sent to North Korea or some backassward country with no rights or freedoms & let them try harrassing the authorities there & get away with it!

  • The paper the following day mentioned that this guy also had a knife in his possession and he was a suspect in a theft....sometimes you bring on your own grief...if he had of agreed to behave instead of fighting aggressively, things really wouldn't have gone on like they did. Don't blame the officers for your own stupidity or start quoting rights when you are BREAKING THE LAW.... The Public (us) and the Police have rights too....your innocence will speak for itself if that is the case.

  • Sorry-correction: to this man's rights 'and the rights of the families and vendors at the market' when referring to the right to peaceful assembly. What I am saying is if we don't protect the rights of other we soon won't have any either. And I am witness to what went on before the tapes were rolling...they violated his fundamental rights and I for one will not stand idly by and let it happen. Don't roll over guys, we are in this together-LEARN YOUR RIGHTS!

  • oh dont give us that liberal hippy bullshit come on now

  • The comments made above are corrent the NPD did their job. The girl should have been arrested for obstructing an officer. The video tapers were just making the situation worse.

  • I noticed at 1:15 some random person shoves their hand out for the guy being arrested. If that's not obstruction of justice, what is? I mean seriously, just shut up and let the police do what they're trained to do, and maybe it wouldn't seem so much like police brutality.

  • Not sure what is wrong with this video. Had to watch it a couple of times before, I figured it out. A couple of drunk, extremely rude people making a bad situation worse. A big applause to the NCP for their actions, and maintaining their composure. While some numb nuts tries to provoke them. Do you think this is NECESSARY??? BTW, the poor spelling during the obnoxious, subtitles does absolutely nothing for your credibility.

  • yes sorry about the spelling, It slipped by me

. I won't fix the video now , gotta keep all your brilliant comments (sic)

  • You told the police you were just watching. Instead of just watching you tried to get it way too close. Almost to the point of becoming a problem yourself. Then you try to slant the viewer's perception of the video by adding your own comments. News reporters are supposed to be unbiased, you obviously are trying to cause hard feelings towards the Nelson Police by adding your own comments. The raw footage speaks for itself without your childish remarks.

    Shame on you.

  • well you should expect comments on here ..its a given ..go have another crackhoot

  • @randallsix

I agree with your comment. Definately intoxicated and exaggerating. Possibly the adrenaline, maybe drugs too - we have no context here and we didnt see what happened before the video started. In essence, this means that the behaviour of the offiers was either justified or not justified, we cannot know.

The throw down 'move' after the guy was cuffed could have been provoked. The man getting arrested looked like he was resisting the cuffing.

  • actually, your lucky this wasn't the states, they would have showed this idiot "force"

  • Yeah, and in Tehran they probably would have shot him... why don't you move there?

Come to Nelson, BC, the "Queen City" -- where the cops treat you like a king: Rodney King.

  • glad you posted this, our boys in blue did an outstanding job in the line of duty with some interfering bystanders that are just adding to the problem. Don't forget who you will call when trouble comes your way and YOU need help... Nelson Police Dept is respected in this town, a credit they have earned over and over...we are behind them all the way!

  • I agree with you, It's nice to have them there quick when help is needed. But you think they will be "NICE" when they come for a nick like BC Bud.....they'll smoke it and then , they'll come busting the door down for it, yap! That's integrity!

  • @BCbud021 you said it bud.

  • Is this a joke? Where's Ashton?? I see nothing but the police restraining a guy who is obviously resisting 'arrest'. Were you able to catch his crime on video as well?? Didn't think so! Stupid criminals on stupid vid-cam. Fight the powder and inner demons instead! 1st lesson- Free!

  • Are you kidding me? I didn't see the Police using any kind of force, other than arresting the guy for theft. Drunken bystanders do not make good witnesses, nor should they be allowed to shoot video.

"Are you ok? Can you breathe?"

  • This video doesn't show anything except people trying to get in the way.
