  • She makes me feel cooler and smarter than I am. Quite a gift.

  • it's weird, her voice, while very forceful, is kind of plain. yet it's striking, and very distinctive. i cant even describe her correctly, fuck it, this song is awesome <3 i'd love to see her live

  • @motifontheback yup i agree it reminds me of thao nguyen

  • @motifontheback you had a pretty good shot at it (describing I mean) :)

  • She is incredibly inspiring

  • What a brilliant songwriter Laura Veirs is. Her voice is extraordinary and that simple sounding but actually quite complex riff she plays is trance like. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

    Tony

  • she is amazing. this song is incredibly special. i found her yrs ago on myspace- i wish her only greatness.

  • lovely. just lovely. I want you in Seattle!

  • this song just makes you think, it very pretty

  • When are you coming to Northern California??? You are so beautiful! I love your songs... and everything about you. Aoife listed you and Joni Mitchell as her inspirations... I have to find your CD, but I'd really like best to see you live.

  • Nice.. Next time try singing in tune.. Then it would be great!

  • Laura is in my opinion one of the greatest musicians alive, she's up there with the likes of Bjork and Devendra Banhart.

her music just keeps on growing and growing the the bean stalk in 'jack and the beanstalk.'

  • this is beautiful music! it hits me hard when im stoned lol!

  • her poetry is such an inspiration. wish i didn't have to work tonight so i could go play music!

  • keren,

  • Norah Jones voice. great..

  • Beautiful voice...

  • lovely

  • Kinda reminds me of a waif-like Suzanne Vega

  • Totally! I agree. Loved Suzanne Vega too!

  • Yes, and I feel Suzanne was and is FAR more profound, evocative and memorable.

  • or maybe she doesn't want to play that game - and thinks that the music should speak for itself?

  • well i would argue with you, but i don't even like you so.. what's the point?

  • well, she IS a singer, so who cares

  • Amazing!

  • i like how she looks normal. it makes her lyrics and music so much more real.

  • Seriously. I'm a fan. Looking for more.

  • Good song

  • this got the same range of emotions that thew book martian chronicles by ray bradbury has... its so melancholic and lonesome

  • Awesome awesome and relaxing, beautiful and I love her.

  • I love her style, so simple....

  • beautiful work; makes me wanna cry

  • Perfect!

  • Huge fan of this girl...something about her...she seems so free and alive!

  • beautiful! :)

  • Try also Thomas Dybdhal!

  • I like this music genre

  • Perfect!

  • She looks like she gives fantastic hugs. :)

  • @vegheadcannibalism lmao!!!!

  • i love (L)

  • Laura te sales!!!!

  • beautiful...her style is like Cat Power. Love this guitar riff too.

  • except 90 percent of her notes are in tune. chan couldn't sing 10 percent of her notes if she wanted to. laura veirs is excellent and cat power has a good idea but can't pull it off live.

  • That really differs. I've seen an excellent performance by Cat Power. Depends on how uncertain she is, I guess.

  • i prefer cat

  • it hink cat powers more passionate,

which in my opinion makes her better.

    just saying though.

  • This is such an amazing song. My favorite one by Laura Veirs. She has such an amazing voice :)

  • This girl is amazing, i love your music.

  • Just Beautiful.

  • She is so good it makes me want to be sick and cry, thank you so much laura, you have massively improved my quality of life for the rest of the time iam on this planet, come back to the uk and make me cry again!

  • @henazmob Wow, sensitivity check much??? dear GOD, pull it together

  • @TilenTomaziic this is what music is supposed to do! get over it.

  • kiss me and box my ears. I like you very much.

  • The trick that Laura has mastered that so few artists understand, is the ability to make the lyrics emotion, dovetail with the emotion of the melody at that precise moment...and the way that's done most effectively is coming up with lyrics in the moment of creating the melody...and that can't be taught..that's the product of a gift from God/nature/entity-of-choice...but it's from someplace science hasn't explained yet.

Music really is one of mankind's least understood mysteries.

  • Unless your name is Radiohead?

  • dont get me wrong but it just amazes me the amount of persons who just adore radiohead and think they are some kind of musical geniuses.

  • common, radiohead are musical geniuses.

they have come a long way and are recognized as one of todays great bands

  • i know... lets just say they're a bit over-exposed, how bout some other bands like the residents, cap. beefheart, gsy!be, tortoise, etc...??? i think that a way of proving a genius is by observing if they'r not understood nor appreciated in their own time (cause they are soo advanced) and started to doubt of radiohead when all the kids that liked oasis and blur, started to like radiohead too... almost everyone who likes rock is in that wagon nowadays (btw nothing against oasis)

  • well i agree on some point yes, i think that other bands deserve attention and exposure. im sure theres plenty i havent come across that i could consider "genius" but again i feel radiohead has made a landmark on my view of music. they impacted and influenced me greatly, as well as a great number of other bands.

  • Intersting comment...are you an artist of any sort?

  • So well expressed.

    So true.

She has something very beautiful in her voice.

    Breaks the heart.

  • I couldn't agree less! I wouldn't say that she has the prettiest voice but it's definitely music way more talented and more interesting than most of the crap you hear on radio and tv today.

  • first heard her with the decemberists. reminds me of lisa loeb

  • That's how I found her too. Her vocals remind me of Solex.

  • by turns cold, warm; stark, optimistic... beautiful

  • one of her strings is off tune i think, for purpose

  • love tis song!

  • wtf is that camerawork ?

  • I know. the song is really good, but that camerawork is a little...uh, lame. :]

  • She's amazingly.. Amazing. All her songs have such depth...

  • I like the song, but the camerawork on this is terrible. @w@

  • Yes, Such a great song. The lyrics remind me of the french poet Arthur Rimbaud somehow..

  • i wish i had written this song

  • I'm going to add her to my site, chann3lz. If you see any cool female artists like this, please add them to chann3lz. Oh and the male ones too.. If you know any aliens, add them too..

  • Oh god I love her.. I know she is married, but anyhow. I got a CD of hers from the library, the bookstore, and play it in my car a lot now.. It's a little bit like somewhere between talking heads and TMBG, but I don't know what others think, I think shes hot!!

  • I saw her in concert. she's amazing.

  • her voice is amazing it sounds like it brakes every second

    and it does not

    great !!!!

  • She's wicked isn't she?

  • such a great song..

  • She reminds me of a female version of Say Hi to Your Mom, or Let's Go Sailing.

  • Totally love it! Totally amazing!

  • thanks to Laura there's still hope...here in Vigo we still remember your last performance...

  • Man, I just get sooo warm and fuzzy after listening to this song! I've seen her twice and would love to see her again.

  • I just adore this song!

  • this song makes me happy

  • Missed Laura in concert in LA tonight, 6/2/07...arrgh!!!

  • i'm new to Laura Veirs´ music but i'm liking it more and more evry day. and this performance is just beautiful.. thanks for the music :-)

  • Unique and it's about time!

  • 70's was Joni Mitchell.

    80's was Suzanne Vega.

    90's was Sarah Harmer.

    00's will be Laura Veirs.

How can someone be this good?

  • Go see Laura....she is brilliant.

  • que buena es esta canción...

  • Laura is amazing. I cant even play rapture yet. :(

she makes it look so easy.

  • This is Real
