i often eat raw potatoes, and to me such things are not cooked because of toxins, but because cooking transforms hard foods into soft foods...there are also some nutrients that are only released or enhanced through cooking.
what you suggest is for everyone. Everyone would be as healthy and sustainable as possible if we all ate exactly like you. People who cook food and eat things besides fruit are sooooo stoopid. They must be missing something. Like how to feed orangutangs
@mrkurt13 the fact that you get so incensed by this again and again reflects something about you. i'm not going to back down suddenly and be like woops your diet is meant to be mostly beans. it doesn't add up. i am sorry that fruit being appropriate for the bulk of our calories is not something you can handle and that you have an issue with that. after you experience it for a month you'll sing a different tune and stop being so defensive
David, people come to food for all sorts of reasons. You only think about yours, and only from your point of view. There is not a universal answer. I'm sure your diet is great. I have done 100% raw for 3 months before. Dont project onto me. Thanks.
You want to know what? I didnt cook anything I ate. I felt fine. I find it more rewarding to cook my food as it means eating fewer calories and lets me eat in a manner that is in alignment i with the seasons and local geography.
Good luck. I'm not going to argue. I am just suggesting you step back and look around for 2 seconds. Humans are not separate from environment. Proper diet depends on the land. Not the other way around. You are militant sounding.
I've been a vegetarian for quite a while. I've mostly been vegan for a few years now, and ONE WEEK ago I decided to try going totally raw food.
I'm eating a lot of raw fruit and veg. I'm giving sprouts a pass because of the problems with some of them recently here in Europe [Germany & France].
I'll reevaluate at 21 days. Eating raw isn't more expensive and I'm trying to find fruit and veg that is organic and comes from as close to where I live in the UK as possible.
Why does it matter if you still get enough nutrients to be healthy? I don't understand why we would need to keep everything intact if our bodies can't even assimilate them all. That plus the fact that by cooking we make it easier to get in more calories... more calories is good; more calories is more nutrients.
What about goitrogens like the Brassicas (Broccoli etc)? We need to cook them too if we don't want to get into trouble with our thyroids... and so not all vegetables should be eaten raw.
I eat raw broccoli all the time. I could bore you with all the reasons why it's better for you than cooked, but I'll just say that if you're interested look at this:
@2bsirius That link doesn't work (yes I typped it correctly). I am an ex-raw foodist and I have seen a lot of issues with that long-term . . . you seem new to it, which would explain why you feel good doing it. Please read the wikipedia article on goitrogens.
BTW, the best way to eat the brassicas is to steam them to retain the maximum nutrients. Raw is dangerous and unhealthy, and cooked is devoid of a lot of the vitamins and minerals. Steaming is superior!
